On the way home 7 miles total, my Z shut off going around 40mph two times> After coasting over to the side of the road it would immediatly start right up like there was no problem. Needless to say I can't get it to do this in my garage. Any ideas.... its almost like some gremlin turns the key off. Thanks for any replys.

I have installed new valve guides in the head and now the valves won't fit through them. They fit before they were installed. Does anyone have any ideas?

Hi all, Here's my predicament: I'm still going through the fuel/intake system of my '78 Z to get everything running right, but I have quite a few items to go. It seems everytime I replace or clean up a connection, the engine runs differently -- sometimes better, sometimes worse -- sometimes richer, sometimes leaner. (Sounds like marriage vows.) I'm now at a point where the engine runs great on startup, but it gets rough when it warms up. The exhaust is sooty, the plugs are all equally sooty (and not oily). The exhaust blows pretty hard in forceful puffs. I wanted to verify that the engine needed a leaner mixture to run better, so I cracked the oil filler cap to in…

Aha, the Canadian winter. I have about 24hrs to winter prep my z, for at least the next 10 months. It will be staying in this garage at least until I graduate. At least a year and a half. So here's my problem: As a busy student I get no time (or $) for my z anymore. It's stored a 5hr drive away from where I attend school, and if I see it, it means camping in the garage with her. I'm currently about 5km down the street, using the internet There is no antifreeze in the coolant system right now. Recent $5k engine rebuild. Winter is coming. I am leaving her. I've (of course) researched a little before coming out here, and plan on: Pouring oil in the spark plug…

Hey I just discovered today that my coolant reservoir tank fell off its little hanger thing and ended up getting a huge hole melted into it...I have a few questions about what to do next... 1) I've tried looking around for another one but I can't seem to find one...is there a specific name for this part that I'm supposed to look up to find it? 2) I think I may have found something suitable, (http://www.zcarsource.com/content/p/9/pid/54932/catid/7691_8764/Coolant_Recovery_Bottle_75_78_used) but it's $95...is it supposed to be that expensive?

hello i know that there are so many "rough starts" or "doesn't start" posts here, i read most but there are so many suggestions that i don't know where to start here's what happens: (1973 datsun 240z, manual transmission, bone stock) i try to start the car, and i hear click, i can hear the fuel pump going, but when i go to crank it, it just clicks, so i try again and now i'll hear it cranking but not turning over, i try it again with the choke open and still nothing, i try over and over, sometimes i just get a click, other times it sounds like its so close to starting, i try different ways in starting it, in neutral, in gear, holding on the clutch, no clutch and just turn…

I'm new to this forum so I hope this is the correct area to post this question. I just purchased a 1978 280Z with extensive engine, drive-train and suspension modifications. I need to find a shop in the Chicago area (north burbs preferably) that is experienced with this type of car and performs quality work. I prefer small specialized shops over large assembly line type operations, but I'm open to all suggestions. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello all Earlier today I drove my Z up to the school for a meeting. (~2miles). As I sit at the light I see a distinct trail of grayish smoke coming from my exhaust. I've had this before, but now it seems to be a bit more prevalent. When I rev the engine the smoke disipates but will return a few seconds later at idle. When I returned home I took a close look at everything in the engine bay with the car off/on. The coolant level is at the "full" mark. The oil is right on the money on the H mark. All fluids are where they should be. I restarted the car and examined to exhaust. It smells (I put my hand in it for a moment or two) like regular car exhaust. Does not smell like…
