Hi I am new to the forum I just purchased an 81 280zx n/a from my brother in law it has been sitting for a few years, oil and coolant have been changed, i put fresh gas in, the problem is it will not rev above 2000rpm when driving, I removed the throttle position sensor and cleaned the contacts between the tps and the cable as best I could (there was alot of green corrosion) looks ok now, but still having the same problem. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

HELP... I have a fuel injected 77 280z that will not start. I believe that the problem is either the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay. as no fuel seems to be reaching the fuel filter. I want to replace the relay first because it is much cheaper, but I cannot find the relay. I've looked online and have seen two popular answers as to the location on various sites. On version says the relay is located on the passenger side, under the dash on the kick panel near where the fuses are located. The other possible location I see posted says it is under the hood, near the right side shock tower. I have the new relay and have looked in both places and I just cannot find it. …

Hey Everyone, I have a 1976 280z. Every since I have owned the car it sometimes has issues turning over. I can hear everything running, such as the fuel pump etc. When I go to turn the starter though it just clicks. In the past if I just turned the key multiple times, inevitably the starter would buzz to life and the car would start right up. I tried replacing the ignition switch to help remedy this but that had no effect. Today I went to start it and all I hear is the fuel pump and a click when I go to turn the engine over. The wires to the starter and the starter get warm over time as I try to get the car to turn over but the starter won't turn. How should I go about di…

Ok, heres the quick rundown of the situation. I bought a 77 EFI 280z for 650$, it did not run and was missing the ignition and needed injectors. I have installed an ignition and injectors. I started her up for the first time yesterday, and it only smoked for about 20 seconds, and was extremely responsive, however at start up she immediately idles at 4k, and comes down a bit after you rev it for a sec. I would have diagnosed it under the hood some more, but gas was shooting all over the top of the motor from the fuel rail, so i must redo that entire get up. Now after shutting the car off, i stumbled across a ground wire down by the MAF, im guessing that could be my issue? …

Ok guys, I'm starting a new thread (for those of you who followed my previous one) because now I no longer believe the issue I'm having is fuel related! Since I last posted, I've been messing around with my fuel system a bit. I switched the inlet and outlet hoses at my tank to rule out crud at the tank screen ... The fuel pressure readings did not change, but the car seemed to run alright, so I've been driving it for the last few days. All of a sudden, this morning, we're back to square one ... after a new filter, clean fuel at the tank ... and still missing like crazy (and still running lean). The freeway was hell, btw... I clamped the vacuum hose on the FPR, and got the…

Hi all Three months ago I did an oil change in my Z. I decided to run a lower weight oil (10W40) as, well it was on sale. In the past (I'm sure you guys might remember) I had a rather interesting noise coming from the top end. Well after this oil change I ran a can of seafoam through the intake and the noise all but disappeared. This evening I did another oil change. I went back to the 20W50 oil I've used in the past as 104 degree summers do nice things engines here. Well the noise is back. Same marble sounds when I release the throttle. Usually appears around 3K or so and lasts until idle. The cam itself is rather loud now. I don't understand why oil weight has this af…

Hey guys. This past weekend I did a spark plug replacement on the Z. It wasn't time but I've used a can of seafoam and a few injector cleaners in the past few months to get the car running better. Upon inspection four of the six injectors had white electrodes. For what I remember white means my Z is running lean. Two questions. 1. Can old (remanned) injectors cause my Z to run lean? My fuel pressure gauge on my fuel line reads 30-40 at all times. My temp sensor has been replaced when I bought the car. When the car is very hot and I go to restart it it seems to run very lean. 2. If the injectors are indeed bad has anyone tired these? Thanks Jan

Hi, i know this is not related to the Z, but all compressors are built the same and with the Z a lot of rebuilding of original parts have to be done. My son has an '03 cooper s and we replaced the ac compressor last year with a reman unit. last week he called and told me there was a large bang from the engine compartment while taking off from a light and the ac started blowing hot air. When i inspected the unit i noticed that the clutch assembly had come off, i have the compressor unit that was removed earlier and it has the clutch assembly, could i just remove this clutch and install it onto the one on the car ?

While troubleshooting a stumble at 5000 RPM I found what I think is an uneven wear pattern on the inside contacts of my distributor cap. Does this look normal?

I'm considering installing an MSD 6A ignition box this afternoon. I found a good deal on one locally but the problem is that I have not been able to find a tach adapter. I can order a tach adapter but it won't be in until next weekend. Is there anything wrong with running a 1973 240Z equipped with a MSD box but without a tach adapter or a few days? I know I won't have a functioning tach but will I hurt the tach in the process?

I would have posted this in electrical because it seems like that is the problem but i could be wrong and it is something else. Anyway i have a 71 carbed Z and the problem is when i go to start it early in the morning it doesn't start. No click, whine, trying to start nothing. Now once it gets warmer then it will start. Is the weather affecting the electrical or the mechanical? I want to try a blanket over the motor to see if that helps it start. Any ideas other than this the car runs fine and starts fine.
