My brakes lights on my '72 240z/4-speed don't work properly. For some strange reason when I turn on the lights, both the brake lights and the tail lights come on. I've read through the archived threads and have checked out all of the following so far: All of the connections on the rear tail light are correct. All of the fuses are good and are the correct ones in the appropriates places. All of the bulbs are correct and they all work. I changed out the brake switch on the pedal apparatus. I checked out all of the connections. I changed out the headlight switch. Certainly someone has run into this problem before. Thanks!

I had a bad Sunday afternoon. I would have made a lot more progress on getting my car up an running if I never went into the garage. I now have half a drill bit and a magnet somewhere in the front of the engine. I've been installing a L28 engine into my 72 240 for about 2 years now. Yes, it has been a slow project, just ask my wife whose car this will ultimatly be. Anyway, yesterday as I was prepping the inlet and outlet housings to change from 280 to 240 peices I broke a bolt off on the front of the head that was holding a coolant tube that was going from the thermostat housing to the outlet tube. It was one of the three 6mm bolts that hold the timing chain inspection …

hello guys i just purchased the car and everything was already as is. the previous owner installed the carbs and the ignition but never had the time to get it running. 1975 280z stock motor 40mm tripe weber carbs msd 6l ignition and coil new plugs and wires mallory distributor Here's where i've gotten to: I put a new battery in the car and tried starting it for the first time, car turned over but did nothing. after spining the distributor i was able to get some firing going on. using some start fluid and constantly spraying into the carbs i was able to keep car running for close to a minute. the next day i figured the jets were dirty so i pull the top off the carbs, remo…

Hi All: My 280Z is back from the body shop and I'm working on getting it running. 1) At first, the starter was not engaging, but I could hear interior relays clicking and the fuel pump running. This had me thinking it could be the solenoid or starter, as I assume the ignition switch must be working to activate the pump, etc. 2) I took the solenoid off to inspect its connections (looking for +, -, etc) and reconnected it the same way it was before, as I didn't find any clues there. I may not have reinstalled the solenoid correctly, as it now seems it be in an open loop, regardless of key position. In other words, the starter wants to turn each time I attempt to con…

I'm new to z cars so alot of it is foriegn to me. The problem started with a 72 240 i bought a couple weeks ago. The car a couple days ago will not start unless you get under the hood and push that red button by the battery. everytime you shut it off you have to get out and push that button before it will star again. Now this morning went to start the car and it will not run unless you hold the key in the start position which of course keeps the starter running. As soon as you let off the key it dies. I ordered a book for these cars but it wont be here for a week. Any help would be great. Thanks

Since I solved the radiator problem I was having, I've come across a new problem. This car has the most intricate cooling system of all the cars I've worked on. As such, I need a little push in the right direction as to which hose goes where. Some of the hoses that came with the car have been cut, so I can't just find where it fits the best. First, if anyone has any entire cooling system diagrams, then you don't have to read any further. The car is a 1974 260z by the way. I've taken a few pictures and labled each fitting using my awesome MS paint skills Below is picture 1. This is the three way neck on the thermostat housing. Also seen in this picture is the cool…

Hey Guys, I dropped the crossmember on my 1970 Z and on one of the motor mounts, there was a metal plate between the engine mounting bracket and the engine mount itself. Only problem is; I don't remember which side it came from! I think it was on the left side, just not sure. Please help. Mike
