Been battling it for almost 2 hours and actually dented the rear quarter from the inside. It is a small dent from pushing too hard and I am pretty sure my paintless dent guy can get it out. I cannot get it to seat in far enough to install the screws. Unfortunately I lost all my pictures from when I removed it so I have no reference.:stupid: I have an early series 1 california car and want to keep it original. Any help would be very appreciated. Thank in advance. John Happy Fathers Day (where applicable)

:bulb:Hey. Im new to the forum (post wise) ive read a lot of stuff on here over the last year, never had to post until now . So hello, Anyways. i have an issue with my 78 280z l28 (cold air intake, 2.25 exhaust glasspack muffler) 5 speed (straight gears). It is an arizona car and i need to pass emissions here so i can get my plates and registration. I can get the car to run great under a load and WOT with no miss or studdering. but my issue is idle. It has a rough idle. clearly a miss and rich exhaust. Ive taken it to emissions twice. The first time i took it was bone stock. no cold air intake, no exhaust. nothing done to it. and it passed everything within spec …

Hello Everyone, Does anyone have a photo of the EFI Main Relay wiring on a late 78 280z from the EFI main relay socket out as it hooks up to the various wires. We have tried to hook it up as per the FSM wiring diagram and blew terminal 71 this is one of the terminals that are connected to the 40 amp fusible link. The previous owner did some creative wiring and it is now very difficult to figure out what was done. Thanks for any help that you can give me.

Yes I've got a lot of questions . I did the upgrade. My ammeter has become annoying. I'm sure I need a voltmeter now. Is there any potential for electrical problems there?

I'm going to order points/condenser, distributor cap and rotor....are these four parts what I need to eliminate my spark hunting endeavor? (and then I'll address the fuel aspects of troubleshooting) it seems that way...but more so as far as changing out these parts for new ones....it's good practice to get new ones with a new car purchase?? they do look worn....there was buildup between the points.. I cannot see spark on plug one when removed..but I'm getting good spark from the coil...

The birth date for my 280z is 11/76 but is titled as a 77. I have been waiting anxiously for the EFI relay to arrive, it did- and I have literally torn this car apart looking for the old one. Should I be looking for parts for a 76 instead of a 77? Any help would be appreciated. Gina

Yes I was happy when it finally fired up I still need to set the timing and tape up and loom all the wiring. The car turns off with the key so apparently I got the 280zx alt swap right too. The retired mechanic across the street came over and heard it run. He thinks the dizzy is "off one tooth." I don't really agree with that. I told him the car has an aftermarket "performance" cam and he said "oh that may be what I hear." I dunno. I know the dizzy can't be installed one tooth off or even backwards because of the offset key. Can the oil pump be installed one tooth off? Personally I don't think this is the problem. I think the car hasn't run in awhile, it wasn't warme…

Here's a list of items I need to do to my '78 280Z. Help me decide which order to do them in: A/C repair - needs evaporator valve (It is 95 degrees here and this is my daily driver) Clutch - needs new slave cylinder, but just squeeking so far Differential - slow leaking of fluid, needs new seals RPM hold (?) - the device below the throttle body that hangs the rpms between shifts...not working causing tendency to stall and affecting gas mileage Opinions?

Some of you have been probably following my zcon thread, but I have been doing a complete resto and I am nwo just driving the car around for the first time in years. I am very happy with the way the car handles and performs, but I have one of the 'weird noises' that I am trying to figure out. The noise seems to be coming from the rear and it sounds like a tire with a slight imperfection or slightly out of balance-but there is no shimmy or any vibration. The noise comes in around 55 and goes away around 70mph. Here is the weird part for me; at a constant speed of 60mph where the noise is the greatest in 4th gear, if I shift up to 5th gear the noise almost goes away. Shift …
