The 280zx distributor I bought back in December is apparent defective. I've reinstalled my points distributor until I can get another 280zx distributor. I'm having a little trouble getting it to run again. The car is trying to start but won't quite run. I marked the plates before I removed the dizzy but I'm sure the timing is going to be a little off. I got one small backfire but I'm a little worried about have a bigger one because the (Weber) carbs leak a little bit. My question is really basic. When the float chamber fills up doesn't the float close a valve to shut off fuel to the carb? What I'm getting at is the fuel supply is supposed to be cut off when the cha…

Hello z forum, I need help with my 77 280z stock engine. A little history, I bought this car in a none running condition, when me and my dad pick this car up it was pretty much growing shrubs out the door sill. We trailered it home and I've been working on it since. What Ive done so far is drained the fuel, replaced the fuel pump & filter(because when I finally got it started it ran for about 2mins and shut of and would not start back up unless I pulled the hose on top of the fuel filter to release the pressure build up,then runs for another 2mins. this was because the fuel pump was clogged badly from old sitting fuel. That problem was fixed, now stays running but roug…

1970 240Z Front brakes are good no air in the system (toyota 4piston). Back: Nissan Maxima disk. Had to rebuild driver side rear due to leak. Went to bleed get no pressure to both rear calipers and not much flow. When cracking the rear bleeder, the brake pedel does not go to the floor it stays the same. When Bleeding the front it does go to the floor. Got some people helping me out and this is what we think might be going on. 1. porportioning valve locked out the rear when it was leeking. I have opened the electrical part on the top to get a look at the valve. Not sure what way it should be, at this point the small diameter part is at the firewall and the larger is jus…

Hey guys. This Friday I was working on the Z going through some of the parts in the engine bay making sure all was good. Unlucky of me I somehow put to much weight on the breather hose (the one going from the throttle body to the T elbow) and it snapped. I went over to the local auto parts store and bought a heater hose (as they don't have the actual one) and somehow fitted it on, doesn't look good but it works. Does anyone know where one could procure one of these hoses? Any help would be appreciated. Jan

Any ideas as to why this is happening?

I had the car running pretty good. With the distributor advanced all the way and snugged down properly, the car finally didn't have any stumble at low rpms. After some thinking, I decided to take the bolt out of the dizzy and see if more advance would make it run even better; it did. Advancing past the maximum the plate would allow with the bolt in it made the engine run smoother and idle higher. I advanced it to the point where it vacuum would peak, then backed off. It ran great this way. I then figured that maybe my dizzy need all this advance because the points were too close (last measured at .3mm and even that was rubbing the gauge). So I loosed up the point…
