What am I missing here? What is the difference between the 2 throttle linkage boots on the 240Z and 260Z? The best I can tell is that 260/280Z boot has a "Metal Sleeve" What is the sleeve for and does it matter? I ask because I'm trying to finish up a few details on the firewall of the 260Z (early) and am seriously confused on the 2 boots. Does it matter that I have an Early 260Z? Can I use a 240Z style boot? From MSA's "Underhood Rubber" page......... Throttle Boot, 70-73 Z Code:34-1201 Price: $6.47 Throttle Boot, 74-78 260Z-280Z Code:34-1203 Price: $18.40 Thanks in advance guys, Dave

Hello, I just registered for the forums largely to get the advice of enthusiasts who love their cars. Right now I ride a motorcycle but am in negotiations with someone on a trade for their 1975 280z, the car is gorgeous, and I have to admit I'm a tad bit infatuated with the idea of owning it. The body/paint seem to be in pretty good condition and the owner says they've never had any problems getting it started or mechanical problems while it was running. It does have a bit of rust on the floorboards, though I know this is something i need to look into a bit more. So I guess the main point of this is, what am I getting myself into if I do this trade? I would welcome and a…

I have 74 260z. Last fall just before I was about to put her into storage it blew the water pump. Anyways I put her into storage early with plans on replacing it after Xmas and a new roof. Anyways, I did a compression test last night and came up with these numbers: 1# - 100 2# - 100 3# - 105 4# - 107 5# - 105 6# - 100 Is it just me or are these really low? I'm not a mechanic, just starting to learn as much as I can. I do have a backyard mechanic helping me though that said the numbers were good because they were close to the same but after reading through other posts I think they should be around 150. If so what should be my next move?

Transmission or differential problem on a 1972 240z with 160000 miles on it, car has sat for 8 years, bought it 4 months ago, got it running, doing about 40 miles per hour and grinding noise starting coming from the rear passenger side differential area. Noise only when I try to excellerate but all the gears seem to work and shift ok. Before I start to get into it, just wanted to get an idea what to look for or what the problem could be. Have not added or changed any fluids in trans or differential. I am wanting to fix as much as I can myself and keep original.

Except for a Z that isn't running great, and this time, I mean suck in a bad way. For people who don't like reading my long-winded questions, my quick & dirty issue is trying to size these vacuum hoses so I can replace them. Okay now I'm going to sound authoritative: In the L28's piping there are three sizes of vacuum hoses. Small, medium and large. Looking at the "Fig. ET-1 L28 engine system piping" I attached, an example of a large hose would be #32, the 3-way connector to rocker cover rubber hose. An example of a medium hose would be #4, the Canister purge line. An example of a small hose would be #51, the 3-way connector to throttle chamber vacuum…

i was wondering if anyone else has experienced this before. i have a 76 auto. i pulled the automatic out. instaled clutch pedal, master, slave etc.. went to put the flywheel on. and the crank seems different? its slopy. the automatic flywheel had a bigger hole on the inside. also my trans and parts are out of a 2+2.do they interchange with a normal body z?

Hi all! I'm new to this board and actually have spent several weeks here before signing up just reading/searching posts and trying to gain knowledge. A few years ago (July 2008 or so) I become the happy (well lately NOT happy) owner of a 280Z that was garaged and not-driven for many years. Well it's been an experience since then...lots to do! It was running fine until a week or so ago when I started it and it began backfiring horribly, and idling rough, and running rough (no power:disappoin) I realized the gas in the tank was a year old so I drained it and added 6 gallons of fresh 93 octane. The backfiring stopped but it is still running rough (though somewha…
