Hello guys. Ok so I'm experiencing the dreaded exhaust fume problem in my Z. Here's the full story so I can get your opinion. First off I drive with my windows open, I don't believe in using A/C for the fact that sports cars don't need it. When the Z is cold I get the smell of the car running rich...as it should because its cold. When it heats up I get the smell of exhaust. It isn't coming from the cooling vents as I've checked that earlier. (and mine doesn't really work very well anyway). I've replaced all the door weather stripping with new ones about two weeks ago. The rear hatch has a new exterior weather stripping. It is a bit larger than the original so it could h…

I made it to Kingston! or... Limped into Kingston. Recently drove my dad's old project z across Canada -- Whistler, BC to Kingston, ON. I use this as a daily driver in the summer, and walking to work/school is over an hour... She has troubles: A) -Keeping a steady Idle -Delivering power to the wheels at any RPM -Will not coast in any gear before trying to cough and lug (1st is especially bad for this) -Will cough/lug in any gear at low RPM even if throttle is given gently mid RPM -Climbing hills in low-ish RPM (even 3rd) C) -Will backfire from exhaust many times if full throttle is given from pedal, especially at high RPM D) -Will clunk/shudder from b…

Just purchased a 91 300ZX 2+2. I was wondering if anyone here knows if the T-tops are interchangeable with the 2+0?

Hi guys, I just registered after lurking for a long time. Long story short, 75 280z fuel injected. The head gasket started making a hissing sound and turns out it needed to be replaced. I got it replaced along with getting the head polished, new valves, etc.. Car idles like a rock and has more power since the work on the head was done. Problem I'm having 2 days after I took the car from the shop. 1. Temperature gauge isn't working anymore. 2. Upon hard acceleration, lots of white/grey smoke from the tailpipe. 3. Upon cranking in the morning, it takes 2-3 tries to startup. It hesitates the 1st & 2nd times with a really rough start. Once I give it a 3rd shot, it's …

Ok, I know it's on this site somewhere and I've been searching for about 20 minutes and still can not find it! Using the numbers stamped on the ring gear how do you calculate the ratio? Do you just divide the two numbers such as: 39-10 = 3.9 37-11 = 3.36

I am experiencing weird gauge readings on my 1973 240Z. This problem is with the temp and oil pressure gauges only. They appeared to be working OK a week ago but now they sometimes don't move at all.....other times they will fluctuate up and down ever so slightly and then stop all together. It's like they are trying to move. I have replaced the oil sending unit and that seemed to work for awhile but now nothing. The temp gauge barely moves at all. I have tested temp and oil pressure and the reading are normal. Any idea's? JEFF MADER 1973 240Z 6,000 ORIGINAL MILES:disappoin

The battery on my '72 240z is leaking acid, and has been replaced several times (on warranty). I don't know much about automotive electronics, so I took it to a mechanic who told me that my voltage regulator was overcharging it. So I got a new one from MSA, and he installed it. After starting the car, it started to melt itself. The old one still works (incorrectly) when hooked up in the same manner. Was there something wrong with the part? should I not go to that mechanic anymore? or could there be a different problem?

I have started a restoration project on a 1971 Z that has not been on the road since 1989. Trying to keep as original as possible and trying to source some parts and answers. Finally got it started but running very rough and refuses to idle even after warming for 15+ minutes. Have replaced rotor, dist. cap and points, fuel filter, fuel pump, plugs, spark wires, oil, etc. Adjusted timing but I wonder if it might be a vacuum problem. Have replaced majority of hoses but having trouble finding vacuum controllers. Where can I find them and would these controllers be the cause of the rough running or should look elsewhere? First restoration project from this sort of condi…

1971 240Z I replaced the clutch pressure plate, throwout bearing, bearing sleeve with a longer 280Z sleeve per information in another thread. I have bled the slave cylinder numerous times with pressure bleader as well as with the wife pushing the pedal down method. The pedal still feels to easy to push down, but the relase fork is moving the rod on the slave. I have adjusted the rod a number of times and can change gears with the engine off, but have not been able to change gears with the engine running and still on jack stands. I don't know what I'm missing with the adjustment of the rod. I've also adjusted the clutch pedal to 8" from the floorboard. New master cylinder,…
