I am trying to figure out which prongs on the back of my 1975 280z ignition switch control what. I see that there are some letters on the back of it and they are B S A IG R I have been looking thru my Chiltons and I am not seeing anything. This is what i am looking at: Can someone help?? Is there a female plug that goes into the back of it? I looked around and I dont see a plug that corresponds with the pattern. If there is a plug, could I get a picture of it by chance? Adam

I am at a loss and need some help. Here's the background on my car: I rebuilt the engine a few years ago and it has about 6500 miles on it since the rebuild. It has an N47 head and flat top pistons. The head was brand new when I built the motor. It was a takeoff head that had been sitting on a shelf since 1977. It didn't even have a wear pattern on the cam when I got it. I had a new Web Camshaft that I was planning on using, but chose to rebuild the engine with the stock cam that came with the head until I knew it ran right to take a variable out of the equation. The engine ran great for two years. I had 180psi across all cylinders, <10% leakdown, 18" vacuum a…

I recently installed a kit from tokico including struts and 1" lowering springs on my 77 280z. when the car is on the ground the ride height looks fine and all seems to be well. however when installing the springs I did not need to compress the springs infact the spring is is moveable with the wheels in the air. is this normal? this might be a dumb question but this is the first time I've lowered a car and I'm just looking for confirmation that I'm not screwing something up.

I just changed the auto tranny for a 5 speed out of two 1978 280z cars. The problem I have run into is when the ignition key is turned to start, nothing happens. I just hear a click from under the pass. side of the dash and the floor temp light comes on as well as the seatbelt light. I've heard of a inhibitor switch (like a neutral safety switch) that you have to bypass when you do the swap, but cannot find where to bypass it. I've heard on some of the older cars there is just a switch on the pass side fenderwell, but I cannot find it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks Erik

I have an 83zx 5 speed tranny and R200 diff installed in my 70 Z. I have some leakage problems that I had hoped to correct with a new rear seal in the tranny and a new large gasket for the diff. Unfortunately, I am still getting gear oil leaking at the rear of the tranny. I have heard that the shifter o ring can cause this problem, spewing oil around as you are driving, then dripping down once you are stationary. The major problem of having to drop the tranny, pull the housing off and get inside to replace a small o ring is not appealing to me, so I thought I would ask you guys if you thought it could be anything else less difficult to deal with. Any thoughts? Thanks…

Hello all, Last fall I purchased a new set of 5 way adjustable struts with 1" lowering springs from tokico to install on my 77 280z. getting ready to install them this week and have a few questions. First off I'm planning on using the lower spring cups and hardware from the original struts I assume this is ok. It appears as though the lower spring cups are welded in place so i need to break the welds on the old and reweld onto the new. any advise on welding temp or feed rate? (never welded on struts before). Also any measurements on positioning the lower cups on the new struts. do I copy the originals or do i have to compensate for an inch drop? If anyone can give m…

Does anyone have a suggestion for removing the glue beneath the vinyl? I removed the worn-out vinyl from the strut towers--and glue residue is everywhere. Thanks

Ok, so now I've gone to the aftermarket air cleaners after removing the smog stuff I don't need anymore because of the header install. So what vacuum lines do I need, some stock lines went to the air cleaner assembly, do I just plug those now? Any help is appreciated!

I'm having problems with the driver's side window regulator. I've taken everything out including the tracks and re assembled. The front of the window seems to stick and then get out of wack and binds. Although the splines on the regulator are worn from someone using pliers it seems to work when it's off the door. Any suggestions. If i need a new regulator were can i find one?

Thanks to everyone who has offered info as I have worked on my Z since last May. She is almost done with only a few cosmetic things left. The last hurdle was getting the MPG up to a respectable lever. It moved from 18MPG highwayto 23MPG highway with the change of the temp sensor for the fuel injectors. I have replaced everything in this car except the engine so I think she will last me a while and it is all thanks to your patience with us non-mechanics. Thanks guys! Tommy

Any recommendations on preserving the dashboards of older Z's? I have recently acquired a 1970 240Z with original dash and no cracks (VIN: HLS30-02614). One part of me wants to put armor-all on it to make it look shiney new. The other side just says wipe it down with water. I am new to this, so any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, Rich
