ive been working on my 280's mechanical gremlins for a few weeks now and have noticed a descent jump im mpg. was getting around 10 mpg when i bought it, and am currently getting 16. she's still running rather rich so im hoping i can get in the mid to upper 20's out of her. whats the average for these cars, how far can i push it?

Dashboard gages do not work; fuse blown ( hazard light fuse). I replaced it ; gages go one for an hour, then off again. I have someone who would like to buy car, and I don't know what to tell them. Can I fix this? vicki:stupid:http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/images/smilies/c.gif

Do any of you know where I could find a mechanical fuel pump rebuild kit for my 72' 240z? I can only find new pumps which are about $45-$65, I really just need a new diaphragm, and gaskets.

I have used this site to help me with my 8/74 260Z 2+2 auto while bringing it back to life... you guys have been very helpful. THANKS SO MUCH! This is my first post for help though. This Z is from Hawaii and then lived in AZ and now resides in NH. It has been in storage for 16-17 years. I did get it running and was able to take it for some local drives last summer. As fall approached I then started having issues where one day it would start and the next it would not. The issue was no spark. I could not figure why one day I had spark and the next no spark... So my 71 240 died a couple of months ago. I had it running in the parking lot, just warming up, and it just died. We tried switching out the coil and that didn't work. It was at the time equipped with a crane XR700 electronic ignition, which has since been removed, but the car still doesn't run. Any thoughts? Would installing a new distributor and wiring it stock solve the problem?

Alright, so recently I've started trying to get the 240Z started again. Back story: Car has sat for 8 years, pretty sure it has a bad head gasket, some other little issues... etc. I worked on it a while last fall and got it to the point where it fired once on its own and then the igniton system died. So now I have a Pertronix system installed in the car, I know I am getting spark. The car will fire and rev up to 1000-1500ish when I spray gas in the carbs, but will die as soon as I let go of the key. When I try cranking it without spraying gas into the carbs, I can tell it's kinda firing... It wants to go but doesn't quite make it. I know there is fuel getting to the carb…

I only have brake lights since my car came back from paint. I had put Daves headlight harness on earlier last year. I had no problems. After I took off the front bumper, and valance, The head lights stopped working, this was expected do to lack of ground. I still had other lights at this point. I replaced all of the side marker lights after recieving the car back. I have finally had some good weather, everything is in place. Still no lights other than Brake lights. The fuse for the lights is good, the fuse in daves headlight harness is good. ANY THOUGHTS?

Just started driving my car, i love it, but am having problems; 76 280z auto trans. 180,000 miles. DAY 1: drove car for 3-4 consecutive hours without incident. Car is quick. DAY 2: after car warms up, fuel pump whine becomes louder ( i dont know how loud its supposed to be); Car starts to hesitate, cut out under throttle. RPMS drop with hesitation. Exhaust may backfire out of tail pipe. I though fuel pump, but backfire suggests ignition, since fuel is present? I googled this, and came up with ignition module, or somehitng HEAT SENSITIVE like a transistor??? I'm thinking: Ignition coil, Ignition Module (EI box?), pick up coil(s),? Car used to spew black smoke, i fix…

I have just been approached about buying a 76 z as a parts car. I am told it's all their complete just let the rust get the best of it. I have no idea what it looks like but is told it's complete and stock. The interior is supposed to be good. So without seeing it what do you think it might be worth. When I see it I will determine to part it or use it as a resale investment.
