I need to ID the part below. It seems to be some kind of insulator that goes between the top of the strut and the spring seat (spring seat is #55 in the attached catalog page). On the pic that shows the 2 spring seats together; the 1 on the left is missing, 1 on the right is there. No part in the BD catalog seems to correspond. Is it the "bump stop" that I've seen on eBay? Story is....I was beginning to put my rear suspension back together, and as I prepared to re-install my springs, well, I thought the "part" was build-up of 35 years of road dirt, so I put a screwdriver under it, and "cleaned it out". Of course, once the part broke, I realized my mistake. I can'…

Ok, after an extra week from the date promised, I drove over to the machine shop to pick up my head today. As the machinist was going over the work he did, he mentioned that I needed to torque the camshaft bracket bolts. I didn't have my manuals with me, but I told him I didn't think he was supposed to take the brackets off. He assured me that it was ok, but he didn't know what to torque the bolts to. Well, when I got home I checked the original Datsun manual and my Clymer book because I was pretty sure I was right and it states: " Never remove camshaft brackets from the cylinder head, even though removal looks easy. If the brackets are removed, it will be extremely diff…

Some of you may have read my post from a few months back asking for help regarding my '77 280z only getting 12mpg. I also had a bad issue with fumes in the car. This wasn't right so I dropped a note here to get suggestions. I got a lot of condolences but the best reply was "You've got a hole somewhere"..... Sure enough - my fuel injectors and connections were spewing raw gas on the engine. While I was feeling relieved to know what the problem was, I was feeling pretty stupid after chasing the more "scientific" cause like heat sensor, air flow, computer, etc. So this confessional is to let everyone know that some of us on this message board are so green, but we truely app…

I have a set of the body trim (just below the window). There are 3 pieces per side (front fender, back dender, and door) and each piece has a rubber piece that sits in the middle of it. My question is, "What is a good way to clean these up?". They have minor pitting and the rubber is not rotted but I would like to "brighten" them up (they are black rubber). Also how does the rubber attached to the trim piece - some kind of glue or other adhesive? Thanks

I have a 77 Coupe. There are four tail lights - 2 on top (right and left) and two on the bottom (right and left). My question is: When I turn the lights on, the top two lights come on and the bottom two come on when the brakes are applied. Is this correct? I thought that all four should come on when the lights are turned on and all four light up when the brakes are applied. Thanks for all answers.

If you are interested in my saga, check here: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=29301&page=3 If you don't care to read through all that ( wouldn't blame you, its pretty dry ) then in a nutshell, I had a low voltage issue that kept the car from starting. I bypassed the ballast resistor and the car ran great. For two days. Its been a while since I have had time for any of this stuff. I had two days of the car running great when suddenly the engine started hesitating and sputtering and died on the freeway. That was months ago and now I am finished with school for the semester and actually have time to work on the car again. Pertronix and ignition coil…

I replaced the temp/oil pressure gauge in my 77 280Z with a gauge from my 71 240Z. The connector from the 71 gauge was replaced with the one from the 77 280Z so it would plug into the wiring. I'm not so sure the gauge is working properly and wondered if this had anything to do with the difference in the gauges . The back of the 71 gauge has the same number of connection points as the 77 gauge. Has anyone tried this swap or would it be best to get a gauge from a salvage 77 280Z?

So, i have been reading here for a long time but never really put in my two cents until now. I have a wiring problem that i just can't figure out. My TailLights and Dash Lights are out and i can not get them to come back on. The lights should come on when you turn your headlights on, and my headlights come on perfectly fine but the other lights do not. I have checked every fuse and they are all good. I have also checked all the bulbs to see if maybe they were out and they are still good. My brake lights work fine, but my Taillights and Dash light are the problem. Dose anyone know what the problem could be or could it just be i need to rewire the entire back end? Thanks…

I drained the tranny. Replaced the speedo gear o-ring. Now the damn fill plug will NOT come loose. Hit it with PB blaster and everything. Tried Vice Grips - no luck. Any advice? How can I get it loose? As a last resort, could I drive it about 1 mile with no damage? There is a shop just up the road, and I was thinking of just taking it there and getting them to do it, so if anything breaks they gotta fix it. I was so pissed earlier I could not see straight.

Ok, I searched through the archives and only found "fill until pours out fill hole" as a definite answer. I drained my tranny and will be refilling with new fluid. Will 2 quarts (about 1.9 liters) be enough, or should I get a 3rd quart? Thought that it takes 2 liters from what I read, but not sure. On my way to Napa for Royal Purple, which isn't cheap, and want to get the right amount. Thanks!

My 78 280 barely starts and throttles up and down once started. everything is new from fuel pump to injectors. cold valve is working, new cap, rotor, coil, pickup, wires and plugs. The plugs got fouled after a few minutes of this rollercoaster idle. I got the car after it sat in a garage for a few years. replaced the fuel stuff and it started and ran great.(at least the motor did) I started it each day for about a week, then this crap.
