I bought a 72 240z over the summer from my friend who had it parked for a couple of years after breaking his engine. The engine is out of the car and I have a 280z sitting on an engine mount on the side of the house that I plan to put in the car. Since the engine has been sitting for a couple months I noticed an oil leak so I plan to do some maintenance on it before I attempt to put it into the car. When I picked up the engine the guy I purchased it from said it came out of a 95 280z with 55K miles. He was swapping in a V8. Does anyone have any good suggestions on what service work I should do on the engine while I have it up on the stand? Also, the original engine had a …

So I have a 71 240 and am doing the R200 Differential Swap. Fun stuff. I have the newer curved Moustach bar with the bushings facing forward. The question I have is do I need to turn the Diff Mount around to get the extra length so the cross member will line up? Also what is the little weather van thing attached to the top of the cross member.

I am having leaking issues from the rear seal of my trannny and need to drop it to replace the rear (and probably the front) seal. Would rather put it in the hands of someone more capable than myself to handle the work. Any recommendations on a good, local repair shop? Gary at Spanky's, who did a lot of engine work for me in the past, has moved to TX. Suggestions?! Thanks!

I need to ID the part below. It seems to be some kind of insulator that goes between the top of the strut and the spring seat (spring seat is #55 in the attached catalog page). On the pic that shows the 2 spring seats together; the 1 on the left is missing, 1 on the right is there. No part in the BD catalog seems to correspond. Is it the "bump stop" that I've seen on eBay? Story is....I was beginning to put my rear suspension back together, and as I prepared to re-install my springs, well, I thought the "part" was build-up of 35 years of road dirt, so I put a screwdriver under it, and "cleaned it out". Of course, once the part broke, I realized my mistake. I can'…

Ok, after an extra week from the date promised, I drove over to the machine shop to pick up my head today. As the machinist was going over the work he did, he mentioned that I needed to torque the camshaft bracket bolts. I didn't have my manuals with me, but I told him I didn't think he was supposed to take the brackets off. He assured me that it was ok, but he didn't know what to torque the bolts to. Well, when I got home I checked the original Datsun manual and my Clymer book because I was pretty sure I was right and it states: " Never remove camshaft brackets from the cylinder head, even though removal looks easy. If the brackets are removed, it will be extremely diff…

Some of you may have read my post from a few months back asking for help regarding my '77 280z only getting 12mpg. I also had a bad issue with fumes in the car. This wasn't right so I dropped a note here to get suggestions. I got a lot of condolences but the best reply was "You've got a hole somewhere"..... Sure enough - my fuel injectors and connections were spewing raw gas on the engine. While I was feeling relieved to know what the problem was, I was feeling pretty stupid after chasing the more "scientific" cause like heat sensor, air flow, computer, etc. So this confessional is to let everyone know that some of us on this message board are so green, but we truely app…

I have a set of the body trim (just below the window). There are 3 pieces per side (front fender, back dender, and door) and each piece has a rubber piece that sits in the middle of it. My question is, "What is a good way to clean these up?". They have minor pitting and the rubber is not rotted but I would like to "brighten" them up (they are black rubber). Also how does the rubber attached to the trim piece - some kind of glue or other adhesive? Thanks

I have a 77 Coupe. There are four tail lights - 2 on top (right and left) and two on the bottom (right and left). My question is: When I turn the lights on, the top two lights come on and the bottom two come on when the brakes are applied. Is this correct? I thought that all four should come on when the lights are turned on and all four light up when the brakes are applied. Thanks for all answers.
