Replacement engine is in and cranking, but not starting. Can't even hear it trying to catch. Spark plugs are in the correct order, have spark and fuel. Trying to figure out if the ignition timing is good or not. With the rotor pointing to the #1 spark plug wire, the timing mark on the crank pulley is WAY advanced. Looks like it would be +40 or 50 degrees. I pulled the valve cover to see if timing marks could help me figure things out. I could not make heads or tails of it So when I see these white painted marks ( no mark on the chain, but a 3 stamped on the cam gear ) The rotor is here My best guess is, something is wrong. :stupid: Can anyone help me sort…

Ok, so I'm reading the EFI bible (single best car information I've ever read...) and want to test components via the ECU 35 prong connector. I don't want to damage anything. Before testing with voltmeter/ohmeter do I need to disconnect battery or not? anything else? It says disconnect ignition before disconnecting ECU connector, does this mean disconnect the coil wire or what? Thanks

After having issues with fuel for awhile I have finally decided to take the fuel tank off and clean it. Whats the best way to do this to make sure I have done it right the first time. The gas tank is already off, I was going to hose it down to see how much I can get clean. Would I be better off taking it somewhere to have it professionally cleaned? Also the fuel pump is only 6 mo old. I have pumped alot of slug through it, would it still be good or should i just change it out while I'm there Any help would be awesome

on the drivers side in front of the wheel... there is a bracket with 2 vacuum lines (i think... they were so cracked i took them off), and 1 hardline that runs towards the firewall, under the brake lines and then down the transmission tunnel. the bracket is located in front of the strut and right under the ignition coil. in the picture i took off the 2 vacuum lines, so there are just 2 nipples where the lines should attatch. (sorry for the camera phone picture)

Just bought a 76 280Z which will be my daily driver for a year or so. Not perfect, but I have the same feeling as when I bought my 87 Monte SS, really excited! There are two main issues I am concerned about right now... 1. Car runs rich, ie blackish smoke from exhaust. It is fuel injection. I put new plugs in (NGK) and new fuel filter (purolator). Can someone lead me in the direction to fix this problem? Gas is too expensive to waste! I was thinking along the lines of a sensor or the coil, etc.. 2. Heater/ defrost doesn't work. It blows air, not hot though. Defrost selector won't work, never blows air out windsheld vents, just vents. I am thinking heater cor…

Ok... I have been trying to get my 72 240 started and i am definatly taking the long road. Work wont let me spend enough time with her but here is where i am at. i have replaced all fuel lines, fuel filter ect. i dropped in a battery after flushing all fluids and new plugs. car was turning over but no start. I was getting fuel, but no spark. in order to try and avoid wasting time i ordered NGK 8m wires, point, and new crane ps40 coil from motorsport. I installed the wires first... no spark. Point next, still nothing. Coil next and we have spark but no start. I installed the resistor that came with the coil just like the original one was wired and it started smoking…
