Re posting. Windshield wipers on my 72 240 work,but not much difference between the 2 speeds. Slow. Linkage has been cleened and lubed. The wiper motor came out of a fairly low mieage car. Do you think the problem is in the motor or in the colum switch? Thanks. Bill.

Does anyone have some pics of the 1972 console? Specifically, the embossed piece just after the stick shift and the accessory panel (w/ defroster). I just looked at a 1972 parts car - it had some bits I wanted to poach. I noticed that the accessory panel was different than mine, so I am curious which would be the right piece. The parts car had a "fasten seat belts" warning light in the center, where I have a rocker switch with a red lens. I am pretty sure the "fasten seat belts" is correct, but since there were tweaks made from '70-'73, I am not certain. The previous owner(s) of my car changed the defroster switch and removed the fasten seat belts warning light on the console. I replaced the console piece (I think it's called the fuse box cover) with a correct one, but I am missing the female connector that hooks up to the male connector emanating from the choke and fasten seat belt lights. Does anyone sell the female connectors?

My car won't start, It was running "kinda OK" (was going to look at it this weekend!)just the night before when I parked it. After some tinkering, I've found out that I don't have spark at the plugs or coming out of the coil. I've tried 3 different coils, same results, crank crank crank but no spark. I've tried running a wire from the (+) side of the battery to the (+) side of the coil, I hear a clicking coming from the passenger side inside the car but same result. When I put the key in the run position and use my multimeter on the connection at the coil, I get ~12V at the (+), (-), and center output of the coil. This site is terrific. I have two Miatas that are 17 and 18 years old but look and run like new because of a forum like this one except that it is for Miatas! Anyhow, I inherited a 1977 280Z from my favorite sister who was killed recently and would like to restore her Z that she loved so much as a sort of tribute to her. my fuel tank has rust causing the fuel line to clog up before the fuel pump, I have found a good replacement taank but my car is a 78 and the replacement is a 75 looking at both FSM's the illustrations look a little different, can I swap on out for the other.

I am a brand new 1978 Datsun 280z owner and the car needs work. When I bought the car the owner said that i had to jiggle the key to get it out and it comes out finally. Later that day .. I snap the key in the trunk lock. -.- So, i bought a new cylinder for the ignition so I could actually start the car right? Wrong. I swap out the cylinders and then hook back up the ignition and nothing. No clicks, no trace of anything happening. I then take the ignition to a locksmith and I had put the cylinder in there wrong; I was 180 degrees off. So he flips it around and puts a new pin in to secure the cylinder. My tank has about 3 gallons of gas in it, but the gauge is reading full. I have new sending unit, black wire attached to pin on sending unit marked G, yellow wire attached to other pin. Tried reversing wires and no reading at all. Any suggestions ?

I did some searching and found lots of different info, but most was related to no spark. Here's a brief update and my problem. 1973 240z with roundtops.....(Thanks Tom) Over the last two weeks I have done the following: Drained all old gas and blew out the lines, new mechanical fuel pump, new filter, and plugs. Hooked up new intake manifold with the roundtops and attached all hoses, etc. Put 5 gallons of fresh gas back in and went for start up. Pulled choke and it fired up, ran at a very high idle for about 25 seconds then died. Tried restarting and it hits but wont run. Sprayed some starter fluid and it will start but then dies. The threads on my shift knob have been stripped, and essentially the knob just rolls around on the actual shift lever. Is there any way to remove the threads from the knob itself? Do I need to rethread the metal or is there another (or better way)?

I have a 1975 280Z. I have been smelling fuel in the engine oil. I pulled the spark plugs out and they all are wet and smell of fuel. I cleaned them up and plugged them back in and left them overnight. Next morning, I pulled the spark plugs again, and they were wet from fuel. I did this a couple of times without starting the engine and same results. Here is my question. Can injectors leak overnight with the engine off? What part of the injector is fuel leaking from? Is it bad O-rings? Is the injector not fully closed? Can this be repaired? Thanks.
