I am a brand new 1978 Datsun 280z owner and the car needs work. When I bought the car the owner said that i had to jiggle the key to get it out and it comes out finally. Later that day .. I snap the key in the trunk lock. -.- So, i bought a new cylinder for the ignition so I could actually start the car right? Wrong. I swap out the cylinders and then hook back up the ignition and nothing. No clicks, no trace of anything happening. I then take the ignition to a locksmith and I had put the cylinder in there wrong; I was 180 degrees off. So he flips it around and puts a new pin in to secure the cylinder. I now take it back home and what do you know.. absolutely nothing. Ther…

I did some searching and found lots of different info, but most was related to no spark. Here's a brief update and my problem. 1973 240z with roundtops.....(Thanks Tom) Over the last two weeks I have done the following: Drained all old gas and blew out the lines, new mechanical fuel pump, new filter, and plugs. Hooked up new intake manifold with the roundtops and attached all hoses, etc. Put 5 gallons of fresh gas back in and went for start up. Pulled choke and it fired up, ran at a very high idle for about 25 seconds then died. Tried restarting and it hits but wont run. Sprayed some starter fluid and it will start but then dies. Pulled off the fuel lines to the…

Shift knob 1 2

The threads on my shift knob have been stripped, and essentially the knob just rolls around on the actual shift lever. Is there any way to remove the threads from the knob itself? Do I need to rethread the metal or is there another (or better way)?

I have a 1975 280Z. I have been smelling fuel in the engine oil. I pulled the spark plugs out and they all are wet and smell of fuel. I cleaned them up and plugged them back in and left them overnight. Next morning, I pulled the spark plugs again, and they were wet from fuel. I did this a couple of times without starting the engine and same results. Here is my question. Can injectors leak overnight with the engine off? What part of the injector is fuel leaking from? Is it bad O-rings? Is the injector not fully closed? Can this be repaired? Thanks.

Alright, I just got the new carbs and intake bolted up. Since I've moved from the 1973 version to the 1971 hear are my questions: 1. Can I replace the metal or copper tube that would not mate up with a piece of hose? The original was metal or copper and ran around to the other side of the engine and into another fitting, does it have to be replaced with metal or copper or will hose or line work. When I removed it alot of antifreeze drained out. Please see picture's with Yellow circle's. 2. Since there are soooo many extra pieces left over I am assuming I can just remove all this crap. There is a pulley and various hoses. Please see picture with Red circle. I'm …

Pls help. I am emotionally attached to this car, and it is currently in dire need of an overhaul. Approx 100K miles and once well-loved. How would I start to figure out costs and how do I choose someone to handle this project for me, should I decide to go forward. I believe the engine is good, however it hasn't been used in some time. Of course, needs tires, and needs body work, only one dent but paint is aging, interior work as well. Has some rust and has been outdoors for about 2+ years now ( previously garaged, but came upon hard times ). Pls help me decide whether to sell it, donate it or restore it. thanks !!

Does anyone know the starter bolt size on a 74 260z man transmission? I'm restoring a 260 and don't have the old ones.

The idler pulley on my 260Z looks like it's ready to break; the bolt is backed out quite a bit and the pulley part is bending visibly. When the motor is running, there is an awful rattling from the front that looks like it's caused by the pulley. It is the only running car we currently have, so I really need to resolve this issue ASAP. If I remove the belt from the A/C and air pump, will it affect the running of the Z? I have retrofitted the flat tops with round tops so the emissions aren't exactly stock In its current configuration (with the air pump currently connected) the car passes inspection, so I'm also concerned that altering anything might affect this.

Does anyone know what the plug gap should be on a 240z with a zx dizzy upgrade? I've found a few threads mentioning you can open up the gap since the spark will be stronger- but no specifics. I opened mine from .032 to the zx spec of .044. The car seems to perform better but is it best? Should I also use the plug specified for a zx or open the gap even further? Thanks for any input. I guess this isn't a HELP ME! type of question.Maybe there should be a "help me when convenient" forum:).
