Over the last few days I have cleaned out the tank and lines, fuel filter, oil etc and went for the first start just a moment ago. The car fired right, but took 8-10 tries before it was ideling. I have not attached the air filter yet so I noticed when it was running gas was coming out of the area I circled in Red on the carbs. Is this normal? I fully admit I'm still learning on the mechanical side so I'm not sure if this is a normal function or if the gas should be going somewhere else. I was concerned that if the exhaust got hot all that dripping would help remove my eyebrows.....:stupid: Thanks for any input. Randy PS, it's the 73 I just brought home on Thursday.

I have a 1976 datsun 280z I cant figure out how to wire run to my balast to my promaster coil and to my mallory unilite distributor.I have 2 black with white stripes,a blue wire,and a black with blue stripe going to ballast.I know the blue goes to the neg side of the coil and a white with black stripe goes to the positive side but what about the Green,brown,and red that originaly went to the dizzy? If anyone can help or send me pics it would be great.

Hi I have the Turbo Maxima Bob sharp built for Paul Newman and was featured on the cover of car and driver as Maxima with Moxie. I have let it sit for years and some noob stole the vavle cover and dist cap??? If any one knows of one for sale please contact me it may be mine or if you know where to buy one please let me know. I hate for the car to lose a little of its style

The Car: 1970 240Z w/ automatic transmission The problem: Sometimes the tach works fine, some times it reads 2-3k higher then what the motor sounds like it is running at, sometimes it it is just pegged. The answer: <fill-in-the-blank>. Thanks, any advice or even a good place to start would be helpfull. BTW: I did search for "tach" and came up with 4 pages of stuff. Didn't really find what I was looking for.

Hey guys, I've recently started having some trouble with my 260z. I just moved to Orlando from Panama City Beach for college (6-7 hr drive), and the Z did great up until I filled up with BP 87 octane. I always use either Shell or Citgo gas, but this time it was my only choice. Immediately after leaving the gas station and getting back onto the interstate, it had a hesitation under acceleration. It was pretty much undetectable while cruising. I made it to Orlando, filled up with Shell 89 octane and the problem to go away. Hi Guys, I have a stock 1978 280Z with 140,000 miles and I thought I had blown a head gasket a couple of weeks ago, there where large amount of white smoke coming out the exhaust. Anyway, I parked the Z until the head gasket came in, I then stated the car to work on and and it was back to normal no white smoke, it ran find for about a week and the smoke started again. This happens without rime or reason, it can happen first thing in the morning when I start the car for the first time or after driving it for a while. Hey guys. I was planning to put a 91 civic wiper motor into my 71 240Z by following the directions that I saw on this forum. So I went to the pull-a-part and grabbed two wiper motors from 91 civics (i figured i should get two since they were cheap and still 17 years old). The problem is now that I'm looking at the pictures from the swap instructions the motor doesn't look the same. The one in the directions looks like it has 3 threaded holes that are used to mount it to the mounting plate. The ones that I ended up with have four non-threaded feet and one of them is longer and angled so it wouldn't be able to sit flat on the mounting plate (see attached picture). So …

If I pull the half shafts off the diff, can I take out and replace the bearings and seals with the diff still on the car. I have play in my bearings on both sides, and before I swap out the entire diff, I want to make sure its not something far more benign.

Hey everybody, I've got this off-and-on metal on metal sound coming from what seems to be the clutch/flywheel area of my '74 260. It seems to do it most often when I start her up, but every now and then when I'm going down the road. It's a sort of "ka-teenk ka-teenk..." sound. It's pretty annoying because it's fairly intermittent, and I can't really say that it does it when I do something in particular. It sometimes does it when start it up in the mornings, it sometimes does it when I'm going down the road, etc. I'm having a hard time figuring it out... Any ideas to help with a diagnosis? What forum includes tank and fuel lines? When leaving a gas station the smell of fuel inside my car is horrible while driving for the next 100 mls. sometimes less(or even zero), sometimes a little more. I couldn't find out what circumstances make it worse or less. I don't think it's sucking from the exhaust. After my last drive the first time now the smell of fuel even filled my garage but no leak is visible. What to do, what to look for?

Ok. So I found a shop some 20 minutes from my house that works on Datsuns. Though they do not do any kind of machining. Now, I am kind of at a loss. I just keep getting referred to people whom do not work on these engines. Now, does any one know of a shop in Nashville, Knoxville, Atlanta, Ashville, Spartanburg, Birmingham, Huntsville or anywhere in between that do work on these heads? All I wanna do is get these valve ports enlarged for 280z valves! How much difference will these larger valves really make? May not be able to get it done.
