Just took my stock '71 out for a spin. She has been running great and a joy to drive lately!!! I usually do not drive her in the rain, but had to take a little spin tonite in the light sprinkle. A few miles into my drive, (I assume) the alt. belt starts to squeal, so I start to head back home as it was annoying. Halfway home, I notice the temp gauge is just about maxed @ 250!! I pull over and let her cool down until the gauge is strait up and down and make an easy 3 mile drive home. Just as I get to my driveway, the temp. guage is at max again. I shut her down and raise the hood to let her cool down. most of the steam is coming from around the water pump. Could…

Please help. My girlfriend's mom's car has been sitting for 2years. Bad fuel pump/replaced. Car runs great at idle. But misses terribly with any throttle. While checking relays, reached under the dash (pass, side) got a very nice shock! (no, seriously. Electrical Shock from FI Relay!) replaced with no change in performance, but no more shock. All cyl. firing at idle.Checked firing order/good, pulled Distributor cap and found the three little vac. plate bearings, lifted electric ign pickup and the magnet? underneath was cracked in several places. I know this needs to be fixed, but is it causing my problem?

I was replacing the rear struts on my 71 240. I removed the locking pin from the transverse pivot bolt, but I cannot get the bolt loose. I have tried penetrating fluid, heat and brute force. I have moved the bolt about 1/4". I have totally ruined the threads on the bolt so I have to get it out and replace it. Any suggestions?

I just moved this from the Electrical category, figured Help Me may work better. Sorry to everyone reading this again.:disappoin Now that I'm driving my 73, I'm trying to help a friend get her 77 280 running. The car is stock, 80,000 miles. The fuel injectors were replaced, and the whole fuel system flushed, last year. New plugs, wires, rotor, cap. The car ran for a while, but they let it sit over the winter, and it won't start up now. First thing, the fusible links are a total mess. Someone spliced them together with whatever wire they could find, no terminals on the wires, corroded, etc. I know Courtesy sells the fusible links in 3 gauges, in 3 corresponding colors. Wh…

Hey guys, the other day I jumped in my 78 280z for a quick spin and I noticed the brake light was on. My brakes are fine and the emergency brake switch seems ok. After 15 mins of driving I heard a buzzing sound coming from under the passengers seat. There appears to be a relay there (brake warning?) I disconnected it and of course the sound went away. What would cause this and is there any remedy or does it need to be replaced?

I have a 1971 Z that has me plaguing the boards with this question and that, and to this boards credit, the amount I have learned is amazing. I recently got happy with the timing of my car in both base timing and max advance. On my test drive though the car does something particularly strange. At anything below 5500 to 6000 rpm the tach is dead steady. I mean new car steady. Very nice! However, when I rev it to this weird range the tach goes up smoothly and linearly. When it hits this band the needle swings back down to 3000 rpm and moves around strangely. The car still feels fine but acceleration seems to have slowed or leveled off. What would make it run flawl…

I am trying to order the outer hatch weatherstripping from MSA. They offer a one-piece unit, or two seperate side pieces and a top piece. Any advice on which one installs and/or actually performs its intended function better? Appreciate any help here!! Regards, Astrohog

Daydreaming a little last night while pumping gas and filled my '71 right up and into the filler neck. Haven't had the car that long and guess never pumped that much gas in before, usually just pumped $20 worth or something. I have it running well and looking good so I pumped approx. 11 gallons last night. Stopped it just short of overflowing the filler neck by the gas cap. I then realized I had fuel pouring out over the top of the tank itself as though there is some type of vent on the top of the actual tank? :eek:The tank leaked itself down to a point that no additional dripping occurred, I dried everything off and let it evaporate for 30 minutes before starting th…

Drivers door hinges are shot. So I have purchased two hinge pin and bush kits from my local Nissan ripoff and about to install when I noticed that the spring has gone. I'm sure it was there when it was at the body shop but no chance of finding it there now. Yes I have a parts car but I stripped the doors and chucked the hinges out. Hindsight is a wonderful thing...I know...I know. So if you have an old crapper that you don't mind losing a spring off, let me know.
