I'm the recent proud new owner of a beautiful '78 and last week my ac / heater controls stoped working. It seems to be set on panel ac and won't change to defrost. Before I start taking the dash apart does anyone know if this is a standard problem or are there any tricks to getting it back working. The interior is cherry (butterscotch really) so I don't want to do anything damaging, etc. thansk, Steve

Z people I need some help. I have never owned a Z car before. In the past I have owned several British sports cars and American muscle but never a Z. The recent rise in fuel costs has me looking to get rid of my 450 hp 1979 Z28 T Top Camaro in favor of a 1972 240Z. I located a likely car, with excellent straight body, fair interior and what seems to be solid mechanical systems. The car starts and idles fine. Slight backfire when excellerating but it wasnt really warmed up much and had been sitting for about 6 months. Oil is clean, carbs are clean, and the underhood looks mostly unmolested. Floor pans are solid, no visible body bubble rust on an older paint job. …

I know this has been gone over and over again and is probably getting a little old for those of you that have contributed to solve these issues. But if you're still up for a challenge I've got one. I picked up a 72 that had several components like starter, voltage regulator, coil, ballast resitor, etc that had obviously been parted out and missing. I replaced the missing parts and wired everthing back from the engine bay harness with a systematic approach to get her to the point of turning over. Thinking that I had made great accomplishments (being a novice) just to hear the engine turn over. I was ready for the next step of putting fire to the engine and hearing her ro…

I haven't driven the car much since the engine rebuild, in fact only had it broken in on a dyno then a track day and drove it from one side of atlanta to the other. I recently sold the car but have been working on some title issues, that we finally cleared up, and on friday, I moved the car out of the garage to do some other work and it started fine, on saturday, when I went to take it on a proving run before its long drive to the new home, I couldn't start it. It cranks for a second or two, lights off for about 2 revolutions and dies. Its an L28 with SU carbs, any ideas?

Took the '72 for a drive for the first time this weekend and on hard turns the steering wheel just locks up out of nowhere. You have to turn the key a little for it to unlock. Anyone know what is the issue and a fix for it?

I'm restoring my 1971 240z. Well, the engine runs really good but every time i drive the car, it smells so bad it makes me wanna throw up. It smells like exhaust and it gets all over my clothes and by the time I get to work in the morning, I smell like a dirty ol' mechanic. I want to restore my interior but the smell from the car is holding me back because I dont want the upholstry smelling like exhaust. Any ideas on how to get rid of the smell? I also notice that it smokes alot from the exhaust tail pipe. Thanks

This isn't really a major emergency, although it kind of sucks when driving at night. My headlights will only work on BRIGHT mode; which can be a nuisance for other drivers; and potentially land me a ticket. Any ideas on why the low beams won't work? A switch, fuse, or even the headlights themselves perhaps? Any suggestions are much appreciated!

I have a 78 280z that I just can't seem to get running right. The car will idle just fine albeit a little rough but when I get it out on the road it seems to sputter under load. Just cruising it seems to be OK not great just OK. But when starting from a dead stop the car will sort of studder. Not sure if that makes sense but it seems like it is choking or something. The engine is just not smooth. And for this reason I can't get it smogged and overall the car is just not realiable. Can anyone help. I am just getting so frustrated with this car. I have put in a new distributor, injectors, altenator, the engine has been completely rebulit. Valves are adjusted. New …

I just got my 1975 280Z out of storage. It was sitting 10 years with 3/4 tank of gas. I put some fuel conditioner in and some octane boost. It started right up and I drove about 15 miles home. The next week I changed fuel injection hoses, water pump, heater hoses, drained gas tank and flushed premium thru gas lines, spark plugs, rotor and cap, plug wires, and fuel filter and now it wont start. I dumped gas down each cylinder and it fired up until that gas burned out. I swapped out the fuel injectors with another set(from an old spare motor) so I dont think its the injectors. Why isnt gas going thru the injectors? Or are all my injectors bad. The ones from the spare motor …

My nephew just gave me a 1971 240 he didn't want to mess with. He drove it to the house one year ago and it has not turned over since. What should I do before trying to start. The battery is charged.

I told my buddy that I'd help him move out of his apartment. Any way long story short, we've been toying around the idea about renting a rental trailler to tow behind my zed to make the move easier. ended up asking a local fab shop and he said he thinks he might be able to fab up some kind of hitch to the bumper for $ 125 bucks. B4 i do this, how much weight can this car tow? I'll need to know in order to estimate which trailer i should rent. i'd like to get as big of trailer as i can so i can cut down on the trips. thank you.

1974 260z I have a clutch that is about 4 years old or so. 110k original miles on the engine For some time I have noticed some problems with the shifting however today was the worst, some times when i would take long drives, 3-4 hours on the interstate shifting would seem difficult once getting off the highway. Usually when I am at a dead stop and shift into reverse, it will range from smooth shift, to some grinding, to having to shut the car off to get it into reverse. In the last week or so I have noticed when i start the car in first or reverse with the clutch pedal all the way down, it will creep forward or back on level ground. Today when i went for a short drive I w…
