Hello All, I just bought my first z today. A 1974 260z 2+2. I used to work on them for my uncle, mainly R & R, so I am not totally unfamiliar with the car, only certain parts of it. My question concerns the large plastic bottle which if I am correct is the vacuum tank for the heat/ac controls. I noticed some oil was sprayed up on my hood after I ran the car for approximatley 200 mile today getting it from it's old home to it's new one with me. I started looking at wherethe oil like substance came from and it looked like it may have come from the vacuum tank. I know that may sound wierd, but there is some black fluid in there. one of the fittings is loose and c…

Something strange happened with my Z today, and in 30 years of driving I have never experienced anything like it. I hope someone else has some idea, or I may have to rebuild the entire driveline. I was driving around this afternoon, and suddenly the car would not go faster than some fixed speed, which seemed to be about 60MPH. I first noticed it in 3rd gear. I was accelerating briskly, and when it got to about 60 in 3rd the engine bogged down like it was in the wrong gear! That isn't the problem because it was somewhere around 3500 to 4000 RPM, and the engine pulls strong in that range. I pulled off of the 4 lane road, and turned around and tried several other times. Each…

A few weeks ago I posted about my vapor lock issue and mentioned the choke problem as well, any other thoughts on the choke....the vapor lock hasn't been an issue, but of course the temps are back down in the 80's again but this stupid choke is driving me crazy. It's a stock 1971 240Z with no mods. When first starting the car I pull the choke all the way back and the car starts right up, no issues. After driving for awhile everytime I push the choke in the car starts "bucking" and "sputtering" pull back on the choke and it runs just fine. Of course with the choke pulled back, everytime I come to a stop or slow down the engine idle is pretty high, but I can't push in the …

I've got a '76 260z with (I'm assuming) the stock carbs fitted. My problem is that the engine varies it's idle speed during normal driving. Example: Stop at one set of lights and it idles at 750rpm, next intersection it might idle at below 500 and the next it might go above 1000! Checked the accelerator linkage and throttles on both carburettors for sticking but all seems to be fine. I'm assuming it's a problem with my carburettors, not sure. I've tuned them but it didn't help. Can anyone please give some advice? Cheers.

i drove my car around yesterday and it ran perfectly fine with no problems. i tried driving it today and for some reason it had very little power. whenever i would try to floor the pedal for more power, it would do the opposite and decrease in power, it almost feels like its going to stall. when i floor it in neutral its smooth, but doesnt go past 3000 and starts to struggle. i dont know what it could be, maybe fuel related? its weird because it ran so good yesterday:disappoin

Well apparently it stopped working after the previous owner replaced the clutch. I finally looked into it today and the cable’s not turning at all. It appears to be in the trans. Idk why its not turning. Can I get instructions on reseating it into the trans?

It is not even 110 degrees yet here and I am starting to have more serious vapor lock problems than the years before. 1-All my lines are wrapped with insulation. 2-I have an electric pump at the gas tank. 3-Fuel filter is clean. 4-Mechanical fuel pump has been replaced last winter. Here my questions: 1-Is it possible that the gas could be in vapor from the gas tank (electric pump) to the front filter? I removed the filter and there is no gas coming just from the electric pump. The pump works. 2-Could it be possible that the electric pump could be partially clogged not delivering a proper flow of fuel to the filter? 3-The front filter has never more than half of gas in the…

So Guys I'm A New Member But I Have Been Reading Some Post Here For Assistance, And I Think I Have A Similar Problem As Edmo's Post Earlier This Year. Anyhow Here Gos, My 76 280 Idles Fine Then About 15-20 Min Into A Drive It Bogs Down And And Gags And Then Picks Up And Then Bogs Down Again And Again I Think It's Fuel Starved. If I Pull Over And Sit Long Enough To Smoke One Cig Start The Car It's Fine For Another 15 - 20 Min. As The Car Sat For Ten Years My First Idea Was Gas Tank Rust As I Could Hear The Fuel Pump Go From The Normal Hum To A Realy Loud Hum, However With The Loud Hum I Get Under Car And The Hum Is Not Comming From The Pump But The Hose Comming Out Of T…

For those who have reinstalled their HVAC systems, what have you used to replace the factory sealant used under the dash where the fresh air comes in? It is the "light brown" stuff in the attached picture. Thanks for your help, Skip Dawson

For the life of me I cant find them and I think I've done enough seaching to justify posting this. I've searched the forums, google, and all the z stores I know and all I can find are ARP bolts and I dont need those, it's a stock L24. Also in my searching I found people talking about buying bolts from a turbo to torque them down more, I assume the 81-83 turbo. Will these also work for a l24. I assume they will, but bad things happen when I assume . so all I need are the bolts to attach the head to the block and the Intake and exaust bolts, studs, washers.

I'll leave my proper introduction to when I sell this car and finally get my 240 on the road. Until then, I'd appreciate some help. I just gave my 280Z a tune up, and surprise surprise, no more starting. At first I put the wires in the wrong order, so it misfired. Realizing this, I switched back to the proper order, and at this point all it does is crank to some ridiculous extent. It has fuel, air, and spark. My current guess is that the replacement distributor cap is the culprit, since the original looked like this: and the replacement looks like this: I'd think that maybe timing is now off by some 15 or so degrees because of the new cap (which is the only re…
