Well work has been getting in the way so I have been taking it slow on my project. A brief overview of where the Z stands today. after sitting for 15 years, I pulled my families Z from the dirt grave it sat in and started looking at it. She has had the gas tank dropped, boiled out, the supply line in the tank replaced and then stripped and repainted. I have eliminated the evap tank following the great posts I found on this site and everything looks great. I cleared and cleaned all of the metal fuel lines leading to the front of the car and replaced all of the rubber lines as well. the car has new coolent, fresh oil, new oil filter, new fuel filter, new spark plugs and a…

Ok I have been working on my dad's 83 280zx 5 speed non turbo. Well lets say Zippy has a short somewhere and the turn signals don't work (taking her to a shop to get that worked out). Either way in the process of tracing it down and repairing many burnt out wires I had to take out the dash and well I took out the Analog Speedometer cluster and my 3 year old well he broke the tachometer and the fuel needles off of it and well finished off the Speedometer as well. The speedometer didn't work any way but now it is really broken. I really don't want my dad to see it when he gets back like it is now..... So what I am really saying is I need to find a Gage cluster for not too …

OK, Removed the gauges from the dash. I have cleaned everything and ordered these little babies http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/PROD/IA37/45-4330 But I cannot get the old bulbs out of their sockets. I'm afraid to break the wires from pulling them. Any suggestions?

Noticed a coolant leak from the thermostat area and thought the bolt closest to the engine holding the thermostat was loose from vibration, etc, so I tried to tighten it. The bolt "slipped" past the point of tightness and became loose. So, figured the bolt might be stripped, pulled it out looked fine. Replaced it with a new bolt, same thing happened: got to a certain point of tightness then loosened up. Now I am figuring that the housing for the bolt is stripped. Was looking at going to the next size bolt, rebore and rethread the housing. Anything I should or should not do before I proceed? What is the best way to rethread? Thanks!

I'm not sure if this wonderful heat wave has anything to do with my question, but here goes. 1. After driving the 240 today in 96 degree heat I stopped for about 45 minutes and when I returned it took about 6-8 attempts to get the car started.....It would just keep turning over, hit a few times, then stall out...This has never happened before. 2. Since it has been very warm my car will not run smooth unless I keep it fully choked...Even after it's warmed up if you begin to push the choke back in the engine runs really rough, like it's missing and hesitating. I'm a rookie on mechanics so any help would be appreaciated. Thanks, Randy

I have broken off my bleeder valve, and now need to get a "new" rear cylinder for my 280Z. I have a pic below from the manual that looks just like what I need. I'll get an actual pic later tonite. Napa got me the wrong part, and say the right part can't be ordered. Any people out there that did the conversion to disc brakes that has the cylinder in their parts bin? I'd love to buy it from you. Alternatively any suggestions what can be done, or a store I can order it from? thanks

Finally got my triple Dellorto's and extractors bolted up to my 240. After some initial problems getting it started, 4 blocked pump jets and fouled plugs it finally fired up but immediately jumps to 4000 rpm idle. The butterflies are fully closed and the idle mixture screws are fully in. I cannot figure out where it is getting all the fuel and air from with the throttle basically closed. Has anyone else experienced this problem? The carbs were disassembled and professionally cleaned and new gaskets, o-rings etc installed during re-assembly. Have I put something back incorrectly? The carbs are DHLA 40G's Warren

I just changed the oil pan gasket. I painted the engine block, and engine compartment while I was at it. I now have a big gear oil spot under the car. It looks like its coming from between the dust cover and the front of tranny. I'm going to assume it's the front oil seal in the tranny. Now for the big question, how hard is it to change once the tranny is dropped?

Ok, so my boyfriend acquired a retired gt-2 class 1977 280z racecar. We are trying to get it ready to drive on the street for the spring and that means sorting through all of the work the previous owners had done. It looks like the car was thrown together for racing in a weekend. We have figured out much of the car and what needs to be in there for the street and what we can take out. If anyone wants to know more about the car let me know...its loud as heck and in decent condition. The problem we are having is with the lights. We put in headlights just to see if we are getting power and to see if everything works. We have been working on this car for 6 days now and…

I have a May '71 240z with a very cracked windshield. I have searched and haven't found anything on the site for help. What Z year windshields work on an early '71? Can I replace with a 280Z, i have to believe these would be easier to come by used...especially in Wisconsin where the pickins are slim on early Z's. I can buy a new one local but it contains the tint strip on the top...want to stay stock if possible. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks MidLifeCrisiZ

I have an 82 280ZX, that I am putting a Monza exhaust system on. The system comes with an extra pipe to install if you want to remove the convertor. My question is, what will that affect in my car, will I need to do anything else, such as adjust timing, idle, etc?? This is and will remain a stock car besides this pipes (unlike my 240). The state I live in has no emission test so that is not an issue. Should I remove or just keep it on??????????? Thanks for any input. Tom
