Hello, I have a 1975 Datsun 280Z with a stock L28 engine (N42). I just bought a 5 speed transmission from a 280ZX. I am not sure which year. Can I still use the starter that is attached to my 4speed trans on the 5speed trans? Or is there a different starter that works only on the 5 speed trans.? What other details should I worry about when I swap from the 4 speed trans. to the 5 speed? Thanks.

The bushings that came with my kit just do not fit...yes I removed the sleeves. I know a lot of people leave these out when they put bushings in because they are a PITA to do. Does anybody have some laying around?

Well, here I am ready to fire her up for the first time in 1 1/2 years. Finally got the engine together. Filled the radiator and while under the car checking out things I noticed a little drop of water. I looked and found there is water seeping between the head and block just above where the engine number is stamped in the block. There was also some weeping just forward of there too. I was very careful in the installation, but something is amiss. Any ideas? I Know I will have to pull the head back off, but what should I look for? The head is a rebuilt E30. Thanks in advance for your input. (I thought I had seen this problem in the forums, but couldn't find it by…

Hi all.. I have a dilemma... I dropped the gas tank on my '72 and at this point i have the tank down to bare metal but I have found 2 problems. Problem # 1 is that the fuel supply line (coming out next to the tank transmitter unit) is clogged. Any ideas on how to unclog the line without boiling the tank? Problem # 2 is both the fuel supply line pipe and the fuel return line on the tank are loose. Is JB weld a good fix? in dogmas post that helps eliminate the expansion tank he uses JB weld for the caps he uses. will jb weld hold up or how should i fix the two pipes? Thanks for any and all info.

I'm putting my new MSA 6 into 1 header and exhaust on and am running into clearance problems. I'm surprised because I had heard that MSA's was just a bolt-on. The issue is the outlet is just a little too high. The results in the pipe that connects to the outlet hitting against the transmission rear cross member. If it was about 1/2" lower, I think all would be fine. So I've tried "rotating" the header on the head as I tried to illustrate in the picture. But in order to go any further I'd have to remove some material from the flange as it's hitting against several of the studs right now. Of course, I hate to start grinding on something brand new, especially since I'…

This front mask with "Turbo" imprint was in a collection of Datsun/Nissan parts I acquired. (There is no part number or item number on it.) Can anyone identify what model it fits? Thanks in advance for your help. Keith

I just installed the Pertronix unit in my '72 Z and the car runs light years better than it did with the points. The strange thing is that if I let the car idle, it will just up and quit after a couple minutes all on it's own. Then if I try to restart it, it will not start until I pull the distributor cap off, and then put it back on again. Then it starts right up. It runs fine as I drive and hasn't quit yet while driving...just when stopped for a light and while talking to someone while the car idled. I don't see anything wrong with the cap, and as far as I can tell the Pertronix unit is installed correctly. I'm pretty baffled so if anyone has any ideas, I'd love to hear…

Hello, I have fuly restored stock 240Z, but I cannot level my at correct original height. I have stock 240Z springs (35 years old) in front, with new shocks, and 1 turn-cut 280Z spring with new bushings in back. My back always sugs by 1/2 to 3/4 inch) and R&L are not even. I want to get Euro Competition coils or NOS stock coils. But thoese are imposible to find. Should I install Eibach springs with 280Z Insulator in back? or Eibach for 280Z? I just bought set of 240Z new insulators F&R from Motorsports, just in case I find new stock springs.....Please advise! Jay

Ok... Trying to hit two topics on one post. Is there a diffirence between the harmonic balancer on an AC equiped car versus a non AC car. And... I have a little valve tap goin on when the car warms up.... Is that normal. I have heard others with the same noise. I come from the world of american made iron and am not used to the Z cars yet. Just learning the ins and outs.

Hi guys, after almost 3 years that i purchased my Datsun, the process has began. Today i left it at the workshop, the chassis rails and the floors will be replaced, and also the rusty parts on the body or anywhere else that we could find on the process, i will update you, and wish me luck Camilo P.S. as a bonus pics i post some of a tiny 75 Celica, that it was there too, what a nice car and in really nice condition.
