I own a 1974 Datsun 260z w/L28et out of an 82. I'm currently overwhelmed with electrical problems. I've had quite a few in the past, but this one's the worse. My fusible links recently burned out. I traced the problem to the distributor and I replaced the cap as well as the rotor which were pretty much melted. I figured I would just swap over the fusible links from my 79 280zx and call it a day and get back to having fun with the 260z. However, I don't think I can swap them at all. I currently can't start the car at all, it doesn't even crank up. The starter is brand new and spins just fine (the old screwdriver trick). There's no crank whatsoever, all you hear is a really…

Hi guys, I'm on the scrounge again. Sent my series 1 gearbox crossmember away for a repair and powdercoating and they lost it. They are happy to pay the bill for it's replacement but I still need to find one. I could get one fabricated but I'd rather procure the correct part. If you have one spare that you want to part with to a loving and pampering home under my rebuilt shell, could you contact me please via this thread or PM me. Cheers all.

When the car is in motion it idles at 2k, when the car hits 10mph or so, it returns to normal idle. Every once and a while the brakes get squishy. I looked for the brake booster to check vac and nothing is wrong. l28e, 1979 280zx, stock mostly... 5-speed. Thanks in advance

So I finally have the car running OK. When its running, the timing light shows it to be at about 40 - 50 degrees(??) BTDC (about 2" past the notches on the crank pulley). I think I may still be off by one notch, but its much better. I have to turn the service screw up to keep it idling at around 1,500, or it misfires alot. My question is, how much of that can be made up by moving the wires back one position on the dizzy? Is it 60 degrees (6 wires, 360 total degrees). I must've put that oil pump in and out about 15 times before I got it this close, and I really don't want to do it again. I'm at 50 BTDC with the adjustment on the dizzy right in the middle. I'm thinki…

Hello I need a diagram of a 73 240 coil and dizzy hook up. I just tried to put the petronix electronic ignition on and when i tried to start it i fried it. so i'm back to single points am not 100 percent sure if i hooked it up right. the car runs and drives but i'm just not sure. timing mark jumps from 13 to 10 every once in a while, and takes about 2 minutes of cranking to start when cold outside, which in turn makes my battery go dead. also does the voltage regulator have to have anything inbetween it and the inner engine bay like plastic or rubber. is anybody in the roseburg oregon area work on z's. I know we have some parts dealers but nobody seems willing to help…

Hey guys just want to see if I am on the right track here. I have a 76 280Z So here is my problem I got my car running for the year now. New plugs wires cap oil coolant so on and so forth. I had it running yesterday after getting the car in time 10 degrees. then I adjusted the AFM so the car was getting the right air fuel ratio. Now my coolant overflow tank started to squirt out of the top and the coolant was only luke warm. Temp gague was around 200. So my question being is I should change the thermostat and the radaitor cap and go from there right? Oh and hope that it isnt the head gasket...

I'm within 2 weeks of having to finalize on a paint color for my 1972 240z. The original color was the yellow (lime). I want to stay with a factory original color but not that one. I'm leaning toward the 1971 yellow but haven't seen any full size pictures of that color on a car. I've seen one yellow that's pretty dark and another one that's much lighter. Don't know which one is original. Any good pics you can share? PS, I've owned this one since 1978. Thanks in advance for any help.

OK, now that I have tackled the vacuum leaks and gotten the heater and various air vents working, when I put the selector to A/C the compressor does not turn on. I have the FSM and there are a lot of tests that can be run. I was wondering if any A/C guru's out there might have a logical series of most likely things to check. I have not owned the car for even two weeks yet but my assumption is that it's a stock A/C system in my 77 280z. If all of the R12 has leaked out, do the compressors have a built in safety to keep them from running dry? It's gonna get hot here soon, so I need to jump on this one.. Thanks!
