It wasn't my fault - really. I've had a ton of obligations lately and the poor Z has been neglected. I've been fiddling with the choke a bit and had it running great, but now it won't idle without the choke, smells strongly of fuel, and sounds like it's missing. If I put my palm in front of the tail pipe, I hear a pop pop pop as the exhaust hits my hand. If I cover either airhorn the engine dies. There is a little vacuum port on top of the front carb (73 SU) that is sucking tons of air (way more than normal). If I cover it the engine dies. I'm thinking distributor...? Any clues? Thanks, Z

I have quite a fuel problem I can't figure out with my 78 280z Black Pearl. It is hesitating very much throughout accelleration, kind of stumbling!! Also when I hit the gas quick, it is backfiring through the AFM. I have replaced MANY parts from my other 280z which was running PERFECT. (I messed up the top end and that is why I am taking the parts off it) I have replaced and adjusted the following parts, AFM, TPS, Brain, Fuel rail, fuel filter, fuel pump, pressure reg, checked for intake leaks with wd-40 and replaced the air filter and carbon canister. I started to plug off misc emissions stuff that should not affect anything, ie air regulator and EGR. I was told tha…

My son's 73 240 has not had instrument lights in a while, he's too busy running the wheels off it to look, till last night, across town in a dark parking lot. That's the same day my 103 to 104 fever of 3 days broke on this lovely flu I've had a week. Really didn't want to go look and don't want him (or me) to waste money on a wrecker and I'm still sick, but better. Anyway,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, No drawing, no print and no energy. He layed on drivers floor, probably "giggling" wires under the dash till it won't start, STILL turns over but no voltage to the coil per someone with a meter. What's pulled loose? What color? Ideas? Thoughts? Thanks in advance, Mike

Hey everyone. Just did a 5speed and diff swap from a junked 83 zx into my 76 z. The differential makes this howling, grinding noise as I decelerate, or when coasting down a hill. When I get on the gas again, the noise goes away. The noise gets considerably louder as the car gets slower, but if I simply go slow, the noise isn't even there at all. There is also no noise as accelerate. At first I thought it might be the driveshaft rubbing the heatshield, but then I got under the car and the differential was very hot after a only a 10 minute drive (by hot I mean, I could only hold my fingers on the diff case for a couple seconds). My first thought is that the oil level is qui…

So recently i took off all of the smog stuff on my 74 260Z. Its been sitting for over 10 years and recently ive finally had it running. when i first got it running it would run pretty well, i rebuilt the carbs and they seemed to be running smoothly, now i finished plugging up all of my holes in the balance tube, its hard to start and when it does start it needs to be choked up pretty good. if i let off of the the choke even when its warm the idle will fluctuate and go up pretty high and then drop down really low so its barley running or it will die, then it will just go up and down. I dont know what its jumping up to or what its going down to since my tach isnt working, …

Hi, I'm doing the f54 l28 swap in my 240z. It already has the electric fuel pump with the 2 relays that made the pump run only on start up. My mad money fund has taken a big hit and is history. Can I use the Datsun electric fuel pump wired with a new relay? I have an extra manual fuel pump cam and could drill out the p79 head and retro a manual fuel pump. But I was interested in going only electric. When i searched here and hybridz I found some hints that this would work, but no solid answers. Thank you for your time. Jon

Just about to pick up my engine from being rebuilt and I am in need of the mount from a 280ZX distributor. I put a wanted ad in the classifieds about a week ago (http://www.classiczcars.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=1384&cat=5), but have had no response. Need the mount so I can use this distributor on my 240Z. Anyone have one they're not using laying around? Please give me a shout. From the ad: Hi, finally got a 280ZX distributor, but it didn't have the mount attached that I need to swap to my 240Z for, you got it, mounting. See this picture: http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributor/1.jpg It would be the mount on the right side of the photo, that's…
