Hey everyone. Just did a 5speed and diff swap from a junked 83 zx into my 76 z. The differential makes this howling, grinding noise as I decelerate, or when coasting down a hill. When I get on the gas again, the noise goes away. The noise gets considerably louder as the car gets slower, but if I simply go slow, the noise isn't even there at all. There is also no noise as accelerate. At first I thought it might be the driveshaft rubbing the heatshield, but then I got under the car and the differential was very hot after a only a 10 minute drive (by hot I mean, I could only hold my fingers on the diff case for a couple seconds). My first thought is that the oil level is qui…

So recently i took off all of the smog stuff on my 74 260Z. Its been sitting for over 10 years and recently ive finally had it running. when i first got it running it would run pretty well, i rebuilt the carbs and they seemed to be running smoothly, now i finished plugging up all of my holes in the balance tube, its hard to start and when it does start it needs to be choked up pretty good. if i let off of the the choke even when its warm the idle will fluctuate and go up pretty high and then drop down really low so its barley running or it will die, then it will just go up and down. I dont know what its jumping up to or what its going down to since my tach isnt working, …

Hi, I'm doing the f54 l28 swap in my 240z. It already has the electric fuel pump with the 2 relays that made the pump run only on start up. My mad money fund has taken a big hit and is history. Can I use the Datsun electric fuel pump wired with a new relay? I have an extra manual fuel pump cam and could drill out the p79 head and retro a manual fuel pump. But I was interested in going only electric. When i searched here and hybridz I found some hints that this would work, but no solid answers. Thank you for your time. Jon

Just about to pick up my engine from being rebuilt and I am in need of the mount from a 280ZX distributor. I put a wanted ad in the classifieds about a week ago (http://www.classiczcars.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=1384&cat=5), but have had no response. Need the mount so I can use this distributor on my 240Z. Anyone have one they're not using laying around? Please give me a shout. From the ad: Hi, finally got a 280ZX distributor, but it didn't have the mount attached that I need to swap to my 240Z for, you got it, mounting. See this picture: http://www.atlanticz.ca/zclub/techtips/distributor/1.jpg It would be the mount on the right side of the photo, that's…

I recently replaced the gaskets in the SUs on my '72 240z, put them back on exactly the way they were using several pictures. Now they are backfiring a lot and the car doesn't really want to start, but I can get it to idle (horribly) with shifting rpms, between 1200 and 500. The carbs are the only thing I touched. Could it be a timing problem? It wasn't good before, and might have gotten worse because the distributor is currently being held on with vicegrips. And whether or not it is the problem, is there anywhere that I could purchase a new clip to hold it on, instead of the whole thing? I have looked at several places, with no luck.

Well I managed to get my old fuel problem fixed, but more and more problems pop up. This one could be easy or complex... My Z runs, or ran... just fine for about 6 weeks after we got it out of the shop (I know... But I didn't have the tools to do the job...) Then I go to have my stereo beefed up.. Park the car, turn it off, walk inside, back outside, and try to start my car. Not 5 minutes after it ran perfectly it doesn't start.... It'll try and try and try until gas fumes are everywhere. Battery is at full charge, it's getting fuel, even spraying starter fluid into the intake did nothing. My guess is that it's flooded. My 2nd guess is the distributer that the mechanic…

Hi My 73 240 has been off the road for 2 years undergoing restoration, now painted and back together I cannot get it to run properly. It now idles smoothly and will rev to 4K sitting in the garage in neutral. If you trundle along without exceeding 2500 revs it drives OK but when you press the accelerator to the floor there is only a gradual acceleration and some hesitation and when it get to just over 3000 revs it just does not go much higher and the exhaust note becomes very flat. To me it seems like it is not running on all 6 cylinders. Before taking it off the road it ran strong all the way to the 6000+ revs Since putting the body back together I have:- Filled it with …

I bought this set of seats like 2 years ago, and when I put it together today, one of the seat is "crooked" to one side, the other is fine, can someone point out what I did wrong? I really like the function of this one compare to the 71 stock seat. I did not transfer anything from my 71 stock seat, both seat are from 72 or 73 complete, did I put it together wrong? or........... please help
