I did a bit of searching, and couldnt find much for what i was looking for... First i have a 74 240z with a l28 and dual down draft carbs. I was told they are webbers but havent seen any brand name on them yet... jsut got the car today... 1st- timing, it sounds off, off idle to about 3K rpm it is hesitant, but after that it starts to missfire and sputter.... what is a good timing setting if i was going for 91 octane fuel... I saw a timing setting of 35 degrees at 3k rpm that ok? 2nd. brakes ive driven a few older cars and they too suffered from this... i go to hit the brakes, pedal heads for the floor so i have to pump it to get the pedal back... how to fix that? 3rd. eas…

Just converted from FI to carbs on a late '75 280. It runs fantastic until the float runs out of fuel. Pull the coil, crank starter, fill the bowl, plug in coil, repeat. Checked fuel flow when the car is actually running and there is NOTHING. Switched to a low pressure fuel pump that flows nicely but only when the ignition switch is cranking the starter. Apparently I've missed something in this conversion that is critical for telling the fuel pump to continue running when the engine is on, not just turning over prior to start. Any help is hugely appreciated. Thanks a million!

Does anyone know if the 75-78 280z's had a/c as an option or standard? If an option, would the controls in the car still have the a/c option if the car came without it? Also, where is a good source for vin decoding?

What are some steps that you would recommend for me to redo the whole body of the z.. starting from the inside? then out? or the engine then inside then out? I'm confused when and where to start?! Thanks Guys Looking forward to learn some Z wisdom from everyone here!!! ahh.. :dead:

I have a 1974 260Z that I converted to a V8 I also put a R200 rear end in it. I am now hearing a noise in the rear. Seems when it is pulling I do not hear a noise however, when I let up on it I hear a grinding noise of some kind. Could this be in the u-joints.

My 76 Datsun 280z was running fine. I was driving out of the parking lot and I heard an odd clicking sound...then it stalled. It is getting fuel when cranked(i can smell it). I checked and the coil is sparking to the distributor. I can not see spark getting out of the plug wires, and when cranking the distributor the point moves about 1/2" and then stops turning. Should the distributor be spinning a full 360 degrees when cranking? The cap is new, and the point looks new also. Also the battery is charged, jumping didnt help. Alternator is new also.

What is that light that cycles through and then either goes green with "OK" or all red? That light on my '79 280zx is ALL RED. I am having some issues with a few gauges not working, is there a "brain" in this car? Maybe I could swap the one from my '81 zx if there is one since it will cycle through and say "ok" in green?? Hello All. AKA STAYZ75Z. 1975 280 Z, timing chain tensioner replaced. started right up when I got the firing order right. TDC was off 20 degs. Which isn't bad for being the first time I have taken an engine apart by myself. She ran rough for a short time then she died. Now there is no spark, the rotor isn't turning. What to do now? I need some help from all of you. My friend Marvin wants to help me but I still remember how the last Z car turned out after he worked on it. My husband Michael used to call him "Half-assed Marvin". im about to buy my 280zx....what should i look out for. there are a coupe of dodgy tings but my auto elec mate can sort that out. the engine isnt stock, cause its not a carbi...its a skyline engine i think (an old one) its go brown kinda flaky $^!# on it.... what should i be looking out for, the interior/exterior looks great, engine sunds good...but i dont wanna split a head gasget or sum $^!# and be carless..... please help....
