When I shift from park to reverse, the engine speeds up. This happens only when shifting slowly. Why does this happen? and how can I fix this? (1977 280Z) Thanks! Ron

I just removed the crank pulley using a puller. I found the pulley chiped and both with what I will call spall. It seems to be eroded away from the pulley and deposited on the crankshaft. I have photos of both parts. I am not only unsure as to what it is but also what do to do next. The spalling on the crank is raised and hard, note the scrap marks on the pulley. It almost looks like a flash weld deposit.

I have searched the archives and came up empty. I have a 12-80 ignition module that has stopped working . I have read some where that there was a shop, I think in Cal., that rebuilds them. Does any one know of this place or any other that does this? For what the darn things cost I would think that there would be someone doing this. :cross-eye Gary

I have a 1972 240z, and I'm about to drop my fuel tank after the holidays and have it boiled and cleaned out, and need to replace my lines from the tank to engine bay. I was wondering if anyone knows the sizes and lengths I need for all the lines so I may have them in advance instead of removing one at a time, going to an autoparts store in hopes that they have it, waiting for a week, then putting it on? I've researched all I can, and well, I'm unable to find anything, and have been researching for 3 days. Thank you. Justin

Just pulled the 240z into the garage. Next day, open my door to the crisp and refreshing winter air. And what welcomes me but gas fumes!!!! Somebody's got a fuel leak... Likely places for it to be? '72 240z. I'll be putting it up on jackstands and peeking around this weekend, and will have the opportunity to put it up on a real lift at work next week. I just want to try and find the problem and pray it isn't the gas tank. It is a small and gradual leak, however. It pooled a little bit on t he driveway over a few weeks. My guess is a hose or connection near the tank??? Anyone have advice? Beyond "No Smoking!" . Thanks to all in advance.

Hello! I recently purchased a 1978 280z with 112,000 miles. I've been going through the car, fixing this and that as well as assessing what types of maintenance issues might need attention. My question is, what is the typical mileage after which the timing chain, sprockets, and tensioners should be changed? Thanks! John

Hi, I am new to the forum... just bought a '73 Z a couple of weeks ago. I does not start (I bought it very cheap). It had been sitting for several years. The previous owner was not very chatty re: the history... other than to say that when he parked it, it ran. The exterior is in reasonable shape but inside, the console has been removed and the glove box is missing... tell tail signs of some electrical issues. I have replaced the battery and it will turn over but will not fire. I have also replaced the plugs... nothing. All guages are out except for amps. I have replaced all the fuses in the fuse box... still no fire. The third fuse from the bottom on the right …

When the car sits for more than 5 or 6 hours, I have to crank it over for quite a while before it starts. PS new spark plugs. Any ideas. Thanks in advance. Bill.

This has got to be one of the dumbest things I have done, hence one of the dumbest questions I have to ask now. I have am finishing up an engine swap. Everything is in and connected and I am just about ready to fire up the motor. HOWEVER. I have completely forgotten where the battery cables go! And for whatever reason, it is not obvious to me. Wiring diagrams are not helping because basically I need a picture. Positive cable from the battery goes to the starter right? Where does it attach to the starter? Negative cable has a big bolt going through it. Ground to the bell housing? Sorry for this really lame question and thanks for any help. :stupid:

 My wife rolled the passenger side window down tonite and it just basically bound up and would not roll up for the life of me. It would come up a little with great effort and back down very easily. Kinda wierd actually. Have never had an issue with that window at all. Always down and up very easily. So I had to drive home with the window down. Here is the best part. It was 30 degrees and snowing. My wife was not real happy. So I guess it is pull the door apart in the morning and see what it is binding up on. Has this happened to any of you? Ideas? My wife is sitting by the fireplace still not speaking. Thanks

I am not sure if this is a wiring problem, or something else. When I turn the key to start the car, the accessary relay clicks. But that's it. The car doesn't try to turn over or anything. To drive the car home, we had use the flathead screwdriver trick, where you stick it between the two bolts on the starter. It took a long time, but eventually it started. I have replaced the battery cables, and I'm checking some of my grounds now. Nothing seems to work though. Any ideas on what is wrong? Could it be a bad starter, relay or ignition? Is it just bad wiring somewhere? Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks, Mauisnow13

Im not sure if yall really deal with the fuel injection, or the 83 model.. I really dont know a lot about these cars yet other than I love the body style of them and think there very pretty vehicles. Im having what I belive to be a fuel delivery issue with my 83 280ZX. the car will start after the fuel pump kicks off, rev to 1.5K run for a second or two, then stutter and stall. the fuel pump is running when the car dies and runs for a moment and when it kicks off the car will start again and repeat the same thing. if you touch the throttle at anytime the car will just flat out die. Im thinking a computer may be buggerd but I have no idea, the injectors look like they've a…
