Is it possible to use metal brake lines for the fuel lines running from the tank to the engine? I need to replace them because they are rusty. Any help would be good.

I purchased my Z around late June of last year with the car running fine, well except for a oil leak. For the longest time I had no clue where the oil leak was coming from, until one day we found that it had been leaking out of the oil pressure sender. I've never heard of that happening before but a new oil pressure sender certainly did fix the leak. Now this is where the problem started... For a few days the Z drove perfectly, then tragedy struck in the form of, from what I can tell, a faulty fuel pump relay. The car will start right up about 95% of the time and drive just fine. After a minute or so though the RPMs take a dive and the car sputters and stays under 1000 …

I dont actually have a Z-car, but am a big fan. What I do have is a 69 Patrol with the stock motor and a distributor out of a 79(I think?) 280ZX. I put this distributor in my Patrol, and it went from barely starting on points to starting by barely bumping the key! Well, I drove it around for awhile like this enjoying the increase in power and everything. But slowly, over time it started getting harder and harder to start! Well, the other day, I started it up to pull it out of my shop. It started with a little coaxing, but it did start and run. I parked it, and tended to my shop. When it came time to pull it back in, it took everything I had just to get it to start. It ran…

:nervous: Hello all, I am a new member as of today and need a bit of help to begin working on my latest aquisition. I was givien this 74 1/2 260 by my wife's uncle in Louisiana. So we drove down there during the Christmas holidays to pick it up and pull it back on a dolly (with drive shaft removed) and it is now a permanent Texas resident in my backyard. It has been sitting up for a while, (maybe a couple of years) but would like to know what I can do just to get it running for now and start the cosmetics later. The body is in pretty good shape no dents, a little rust. Tires barely have 2000 miles on them, interior is in great shape, just needs to cleaned out. Any advice …

It's about 75 here today and I ran a few errands with my Z. After the second errand, it was really really hard to start, I barally got it going. After I got it going, it ran fine as usuall home. So after I got home, I could smell a lot of gas fumes comming around from the gas cap, so I thought I'd unscrew it. Immediately as I unscrewed it, it went "KA BAM" and shot off really hard and you could smell and see all of the fumes comming out. After I took the cap off, I wanted to see if it would start, and it fired right up, no problem. I assume this is vapor lock? This has never happened before, and I assume it's because of the heat? What may have caused this, and what do I d…

When I shift from park to reverse, the engine speeds up. This happens only when shifting slowly. Why does this happen? and how can I fix this? (1977 280Z) Thanks! Ron

I just removed the crank pulley using a puller. I found the pulley chiped and both with what I will call spall. It seems to be eroded away from the pulley and deposited on the crankshaft. I have photos of both parts. I am not only unsure as to what it is but also what do to do next. The spalling on the crank is raised and hard, note the scrap marks on the pulley. It almost looks like a flash weld deposit.

I have searched the archives and came up empty. I have a 12-80 ignition module that has stopped working . I have read some where that there was a shop, I think in Cal., that rebuilds them. Does any one know of this place or any other that does this? For what the darn things cost I would think that there would be someone doing this. :cross-eye Gary

I have a 1972 240z, and I'm about to drop my fuel tank after the holidays and have it boiled and cleaned out, and need to replace my lines from the tank to engine bay. I was wondering if anyone knows the sizes and lengths I need for all the lines so I may have them in advance instead of removing one at a time, going to an autoparts store in hopes that they have it, waiting for a week, then putting it on? I've researched all I can, and well, I'm unable to find anything, and have been researching for 3 days. Thank you. Justin

Just pulled the 240z into the garage. Next day, open my door to the crisp and refreshing winter air. And what welcomes me but gas fumes!!!! Somebody's got a fuel leak... Likely places for it to be? '72 240z. I'll be putting it up on jackstands and peeking around this weekend, and will have the opportunity to put it up on a real lift at work next week. I just want to try and find the problem and pray it isn't the gas tank. It is a small and gradual leak, however. It pooled a little bit on t he driveway over a few weeks. My guess is a hose or connection near the tank??? Anyone have advice? Beyond "No Smoking!" . Thanks to all in advance.

Hello! I recently purchased a 1978 280z with 112,000 miles. I've been going through the car, fixing this and that as well as assessing what types of maintenance issues might need attention. My question is, what is the typical mileage after which the timing chain, sprockets, and tensioners should be changed? Thanks! John
