I've owned my 76 Z now for about a month and haven't driven it since about the 2nd day I've owned it due to fixing some issues that will make it a good daily driver. However, while it's in the fix-it stage, I would like to get a question answered. As I was driving it home ( and subsequently around the neighborhood once I got it home), I noticed a nice metallic BANG anytime I put a decent load on the car ( not full throttle...not even really quarter throttle). I tried to see if I could replicate this by putting it into third gear and gently coercing the throttle to see at what point this BANG occurs. If I'm really gentle, it won't do it at all. When it does BANG, it's only…

today i just gave my car a tune up and couldn't wait to drive it. it started right up and sounded good. but then, i noticed that the clutch pedal had little or no resistance when depressed. then when i tried to put it in reverse, the shifter is stuck in neutral and wont go in reverse or in any other gear. i shut it off and now the shifter can move but the clutch pedal still has little resistance. i turned it back on and tried to reverse again only to hear it grind. i was able to get it into 4th but took a bit force to get it in that gear. also, another thing i noticed was that the speedometer stuck on 15mph, even when i shut it off. so is it the clutch, shifter or somethi…

I have a 73 240z. The battery has been draining even wth the enigine running. The ammeter sows a discharge when the vehicle is running. I have already had the alternator checked and have replaced the voltage regualtor. The problem seems to be that the power from the alternator is not reaching the electrical system. Haynes and Chilton both mention fusable links that protect the starter and alternator, but I cannot find them. Can anyone assist me with this. I am open to any other suggestions as to what the problem might be also. I'm sure it is probably something annoyingly easy and probably obvious too. Thanks, Rich

ive pulled the fuel tank and flushed it out. ive blown through all the fuel lines. ive also pulled the pump which runs just fine. but when i put it back together i pulled the oil pressure sensor to bring the fuel pump on and seperated the fuel line below the filter and i am getting nothing. ive heard it can be difficult to prime the pump but i have at least 7 to 10 gallons of gas. what gives?

I'm sure someone out there must have installed an aftermarket stereo in their 240Z. I have a 1972 240Z. I'd appreciate some comments on any problems people have run into or troubleshooting advice. Thanks!

The guys over @ HybridZ wouldn't help me... I recently bought a late model '74 260Z. It's the coupe model too. Uhm, the kid I bought it from said that it only needed a new battery and the fluids replaced. Did that first night and tried to start it. Nothing happened. It turns over great though. Through various sources I've gotten instructions to check the fuses, replace the rear electric fuel pump, replace fuel hoses, check the mechanical pump up front, replace the 10yo gas (did that first night too) and get a manual. Done all that stuff. The manual I have, said that the elec. pump doesn't start until 400rpm. The mech. pump looks to have too much play in the lever, but the…

I noticed today that there is a "growl" or low "grrrrrrrr" not a "whine" coming from the rearend of the car ONLY when I'm coasting....You give it any gas at all and the noise stops, but then as soon as you come off the gas and coast there's that noise again. What in the world could this be??? What should I look for and would you drive the car anymore...... Thanks guys....

i just got an oil change last month and rarely drive my z. i only drive it on weekends, so thats like 4 times a month and i only drive it to like the liquor store or some fast food place. today i checked my oil and it was pretty dirty and looks like it might need another oil change by the end of the month. is that normal assuming because its an old car?

Help, I am dissambling the front suspension and steering for restoration and I can't get these two parts to separate. I don't know if they are fused due to age or if there is some trick to getting them apart. I have removed the top locking nut and the stem is threaded but don't know if the next part slips off or if it is threaded as well. It is part of the tie rod? I think. I have attached some pictures.

So i've been trying to get my 280z to pass emissions (last time tested, it was wicked low across the board, but the HC idle was through the roof due to it being lean i think (co% load was 1.4, co% idle was .27) i've been trying to get this afm adjusted (it's from an 80's MR2 ) and i've found that it runs WORSE when i have the tps hooked up, and way better with it unplugged. I think the afm is just adjusted to rich, and the full throttle position causes it to start flooding? is it possible to tune it and never use the tps? (btw the reason why it was so lean, was because the afm idle adjustment was set too lean since it was ment for a smaller car)
