I got my tank off the car yesterday and it had about a 1/4 tank of gas that was left in it since 1988. The tank is gunked up and and rusty. I power washed it and got a good bit of stuff out of it, but it still looks nasty. The only product I've found that looks decent is the POR-15 kit. I've looked for a replacement tank, but none of the aftermarket companies show them in inventory (72 240z). Motorsport shows the tank marked with an A which I guess means it may or may not be in stock. Would I be better off to try and find a decent tank, or use the POR-15?

I saw this picture: And I just about flipped out. I had no idea my Z could look so amazing. Does anybody know who this is, or how much they paid to get this done... Or maybe I'll just make myself learn a new skill and sew the leather myself...

i have a '72 240z. when i crank the engine, it takes a while to start, and then when it starts it will only go up to around 300 or 400 rpm, and if you touch the gas, it stalls. if you wait, sometimes it'll stall, sometimes it'll get up to speed, but once it's hovering around 1000 rpm, if you touch the gas it'll stall. i do not have an air filter, would that have anything to do with it, and also, would an air filter from a '76 280z fit on my '72?

I've perused around the old Z's for some time now and I've found one that I might possibly want to get into. The seller has a 1976 280Z which has a newer low mileage 83 280ZX motor installed. Great. Fine. Except for one thing. Apparently the car needs a new wiring harness, so when the motor was swapped, the mechanic for the guy rigged the car to start and it does and runs exceptionally, but the turn signals and most of the gauges DO NOT work. The speedo and voltmeter both work and so do the hazards, cabin lights, headlights and tailights. Question. What am I getting myself into here? I talked to a Z specialist here in TN and he says that the 83 and 76 L28s were vastly dif…

Does anyone know where to get that small oil trough that goes through the adaptor plate on a '76 five speed? Mine broke (all by itself...sure) and I don't trust braizing it. Cheers!

I have just purchased a Haynes Automotive Repair Manual for my 240z. This is my first time tuning carbs and have followed everything step by step and now have run into some confusion. On sec 16, #19 it says: "set the fast idle screw so that there is a clearance at its tip of between .039 and .079 (1 and 2 mm) when the balance screw is lightly depressed with the finger." i cannot lightly depress the balance screw because its screwed down to keep my carbs balanced. the only way to lightly depress it and make that 2mm clearance is to completely slacken the balance screw so the screw is not touching the thing that its suppose to push down on. but that would unbalance the 2…

I bought a 76 280Z this past weekend, great car, great mechanically, has a few little electrical issues, but yesterday I was working on the car and I noticed a small puddle about 6" in diameter under the back right side of the car. I bent down and looked up under the car and noticed the right side of the fuel tank was wet and drips were coming from the drain plug ( although this may not be the source of the leak). Any ideas on what to do next? I'm thinking about taking it off and refurbishing it, but I want to make sure it would be a better decision than out and out replacing it ( because finding another fuel tank might be difficult and expensive). It's a great c…
