My '83 280 zx nonturbo has been having some problems lately. Within the past couple of weeks, at lights, my car will act like it wants top turn off in a pulsing motion. But when I drive, this doesnt happen. It has only happened twice. Also, my voltage meeter has been going crazy. The needle just goes in and out of the red area, over the 14 volt range. I have a leak somewhere in my antifreeze lines or heater core or something, and I was wondering if the antifreeze leaking on wires could cause this. Also, I have been haing issues with my brakes. Occationally, it wont catch, and I stop, I just have to go much farther down on the break pedal. My dad said I would probably ne…

Hello, Im new to this forum and bought a 78' 280z w/ the (83ZX L28 Nonturbo engine+tranny) I recently have heard noise whenever the rpms are at 1K at idle and while driving. It hasn't caused any affect on performance it is just really loud and annoying. I used the search tool but im not sure whether it is the fan clutch, waterpump bearings going bad, or if the belt is just loose. I don't know what any of these sound like but the noise is a high pitched squeal. Im somewhat thinking it is the belt because when i put a little baby powder on it the noise was lower but then became louder. I don't have AC or Power Steering. I will post a video of it on youtube as reference. I'm…

Is There a commonality between the Injectors firing and the electric fuel pump I have to help Son's friend tommorrow, his fuel pump quit getting power so I jumped it out and it is fine, but at the same time it appears the injectors are not firing, have pressure but not starting, can induce starting fluid and starts right up then dies! Any thing that controls both, not sure if the ecu controls anything on the fuel pump!

:stupid: The more I learn, the less I know. Thought it would be easy to remove the original cover of the '71 Driver's Seat so I can repair/replace the sun damaged foam and re-stitch the seat leather or vinyl, whichever it is, but not so easy. Any guidance or hints on how to go about this? Thanks tons.

My crossmember has been mangled badly and I'm about to fabricate a new unit. One side is higher than the other and I'm not sure if this is a stock thing but I doubt it. If anyone has a unmolested one handy that they could measure up, I'd apprecaite it. Pics would be a bonus. I'm unsure that the crossmember is unique to the A series gearbox or just the early 240z (series 1). It has a solid mount to the chassis unlike the bushed later unit. So if you have a mid to late 71, 72 or 73, you'll have a different crossmember to mine.

I'm just curious if anyone has bought a car from the Atlantic Z car club, or know anythign about the cars they sell? I've talked to them a couple of times, and they seem pretty straight foward about everything. I keep thinking back to the last time I bought a car(Firebird), and the guy seem really nice, and the car seemed great from all the pictures he sent me, and i ended up buying the thing, andgetting ripped off bigtime, which i didnt realize until i had the car for a couple months. It cost me a fortune to restore, and finally i just got fed up and sold it when it was finished. Sorry for the rant. haha. Any info on atlantic z? As alwalys, Any and all help offered is g…

Driving the other night I hit one of those steel plates road crews put down after digging a hole. It was sticking out pretty far and I didn't have time to slow down by the time I saw it, hit it, and the car bottomed out really hard. Right after the car started running terribly and a huge cloud of white smoke ( steam mostly ) was billowing out from behind me. Checking things out, at first I thought the headers had hit the thermostat housing because I was missing a manifold stud right there. After re-sealing the thermostat housing water was still gushing out, soaking the intake/exhaust gasket and making a huge hole. Obviously I was going to have to replace the gasket now,…

Sorry to be an idiot, but I didn't mark the small gauge wires when I removed them from my starter solenoid and now I don't remember where they went. I've included a picture of the mystery wires. I think that I can assume that the blue female spade connector goes to the S terminal, but I'm not sure if the ring connector goes to the B (+) or M terminal. This is a '73 240z with an L28 engine and a 5-speed 280zx transmission. Thanks for any help in this moron rescue.

I noticed the plastic cowl on steering wheel was warm the other day. I removed it to find that the short harness with the module secured to top of the iginition switch was heating up with the lights on. More specifically the green and white to the left rear of it. This wire has also been glued, repaired at the plastic connection plug. I know I need to trace the wiring to figure out where the short is, but still think this short harness should be replaced if possible. It is obvious from the solder connections on the module that it has been hot before. Still wondering if this was part of the cause, or result of the melt down a couple of weeks ago. Thanx in advance for…
