I cant get the bolts loose that hold the rear of the differential to the moustache bar through the big square bushing. Is there anyway to get this off? One of the nuts is stripped also. Can the bushing be replaced?

Hi all i noticed on my 78 280z that all the emissions equipment has been removed ie cat converter, air pump, and diverted valve. my question is will the absence of these components make my z run better or worse?

Was going to order through rockauto.com because the local parts store didn't have Beck Arnley rod bearings and found they had better prices, do you guys recommend them and also are rod bearings and connecting rod bearings the same thing?

So I am looking into a 260z it has a great body basically flawless except paint, car runs and drives, but only on 4 cylinders. I looked over the car and realized it has some MAJOR wiring problems, there are twisty connectors used in homes on it and to get the headlights on you have to plug two wires together, the rear lights don't come on, and neither the tach nor speedo work. The choke lever is non existant and you have to flip a switch for the car to run (i'm assuming its the electric fuel pump). I am going back to look at the car tomorrow but i'm scared with the wires, I am very good at working on mechanical things but wires and me...I'm not sure if it can be repaired …

I took the 240 out today and noticed that the temp was a little high, 3/4 the way over, mainly at idle (a long red light). I have always had the opposite in that before the temp would never go past 120-130. Three months ago I replaced the thermostate with a courtsey nissan 190, everything seemed fine until today, when I hit about 220 or so on the gauge. I searched the forum and noticed alot of post about the fan clutch, one post said that if you can turn the fan blades with ease at normal operating temperture then somethings wrong with your clutch. Well, I can turn the fan blades very easy, with no effort at all when the engines hot, does this mean I need a new fan clu…

Hello everyone, I just got my 76 280z and I am having a couple of problems. It is a L28 with 5 speed, ac, and electric ignition. The valves were recently adjusted and the injectors are new. The AFM has also been recently rebuilt and I just checked it and everything looks good. The first problem is the gas mileage. I am only getting about 16 MPG driving very easily. It smells like it is running rich and there is soot on the bumper near the tail pipe. I have checked most of the connections but I still need to clean the water temperature sensor. Should I remove the thermostat? The second problem is the idle speed. In the morning when it is a little cold (southern california …

I am looking to buy a 260z there is one for sale by me, crappy paint job but no rust and the engine starts up great, needs a clutch so I can't drive it around but I can tell it has been sitting a long while. The guy is asking 1500 obo, its a 74 with 84k on the clock...who knows wht it really is though. The interior is pretty beat up, needs 1 new seat and front carpet, missing the radio and passenger door panel. other than that it is a pretty good little car, front spoiler new tires and some otehr little things. I am thinking of pulling the motor and rebuilding it, while i'm in tehre putting in a new cam and IF i can scrounge the money maybe stroking it...the engine that i…

Have had some charging problems. On a fully charged battery and engine running I disconnected the positive cable to test alternator and she died immediantly. I have been unable to start her since. The starter turns the engine over just fine and I'm getting fuel past the fuel filter. Today when I tried her again she would start and run for just a few seconds, then dead again...??? Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chris'sZ

I was looking at buying an R200 and later down the line a 5 speed. I was playing with the transmission calculator http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/transmission.html and noticed that you lose top end speed with the high gear ratios (something you all probably knew, but I stated anyway) and well I was wondering what the best transmission to diff combo to you guys if I don't want lose too much top end, but gain acceleration or whats your personal favorite combo?? Also would I notice a difference from a 3.364 gear ratio R200 to a 3.364 gear ratio R180?

Hi All, I have been getting back into my 260Z as of late after taking off about two years from it while renovating a house etc etc with the same old excuses. I am back and at it full time and ready to get my Z going again. I was looking to get it fired up shortly and the last day or two I have reconnected my carbs, changed my oil, change oil filter, replaced plugs, replaced air filter, replaced the first white clear fuel filter after the tank, I am replacing the filter inside the electric pump tonight, and a few other things here and there like replacing coolant lines etc. I also forgot to mention that I have drained the gas and put in some new fresh stuff. The stuff that…

I just droped Ruby, my 1977 280Z, off at a mechanic who specialize in Z cars here in town for a dianostic. Well the problem is Ruby has been running kind of truck'ish lately and the Mechanic (mech) has found 5 things wrong. 1) The engine Block is a N42 and the Head is a N47. He said the pistions have built up carbon the tops and are now hitting the bottom of the N47 Head. My main and most important question is What kind of head gasket thinkness do I need to buy to get the proper clearance and were can I buy one at. A place like Nappa Auto Supply maybe? So to I can either get a thicker head Gasket to fix the clearance issue or buy the correct Head which I believe is a N4…
