I am looking to buy a 260z there is one for sale by me, crappy paint job but no rust and the engine starts up great, needs a clutch so I can't drive it around but I can tell it has been sitting a long while. The guy is asking 1500 obo, its a 74 with 84k on the clock...who knows wht it really is though. The interior is pretty beat up, needs 1 new seat and front carpet, missing the radio and passenger door panel. other than that it is a pretty good little car, front spoiler new tires and some otehr little things. I am thinking of pulling the motor and rebuilding it, while i'm in tehre putting in a new cam and IF i can scrounge the money maybe stroking it...the engine that i…

Have had some charging problems. On a fully charged battery and engine running I disconnected the positive cable to test alternator and she died immediantly. I have been unable to start her since. The starter turns the engine over just fine and I'm getting fuel past the fuel filter. Today when I tried her again she would start and run for just a few seconds, then dead again...??? Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Chris'sZ

I was looking at buying an R200 and later down the line a 5 speed. I was playing with the transmission calculator http://www.geocities.com/z_design_studio/transmission.html and noticed that you lose top end speed with the high gear ratios (something you all probably knew, but I stated anyway) and well I was wondering what the best transmission to diff combo to you guys if I don't want lose too much top end, but gain acceleration or whats your personal favorite combo?? Also would I notice a difference from a 3.364 gear ratio R200 to a 3.364 gear ratio R180?

Hi All, I have been getting back into my 260Z as of late after taking off about two years from it while renovating a house etc etc with the same old excuses. I am back and at it full time and ready to get my Z going again. I was looking to get it fired up shortly and the last day or two I have reconnected my carbs, changed my oil, change oil filter, replaced plugs, replaced air filter, replaced the first white clear fuel filter after the tank, I am replacing the filter inside the electric pump tonight, and a few other things here and there like replacing coolant lines etc. I also forgot to mention that I have drained the gas and put in some new fresh stuff. The stuff that…

I just droped Ruby, my 1977 280Z, off at a mechanic who specialize in Z cars here in town for a dianostic. Well the problem is Ruby has been running kind of truck'ish lately and the Mechanic (mech) has found 5 things wrong. 1) The engine Block is a N42 and the Head is a N47. He said the pistions have built up carbon the tops and are now hitting the bottom of the N47 Head. My main and most important question is What kind of head gasket thinkness do I need to buy to get the proper clearance and were can I buy one at. A place like Nappa Auto Supply maybe? So to I can either get a thicker head Gasket to fix the clearance issue or buy the correct Head which I believe is a N4…

Welp...After useing the Factory Manual and the EFI "Bible"...It appears that I have blown part of the ECU (electronic control unit). In my neck of the woods, I can't find any junk yard Z's to get one. Does any body out there have a spare or know where I can possibly order one from??? Thanks for all of your help prior... Chris

No serious mods quite yet, but what would be some good bang for the buck upgrades for my ole 81 280zx? I'm going to be a lame and say that i'd love to go out all with this car, but can't unfortunately unless gas prices decide to drop a few dollars, haha.. So mileage is a concern.. So I should say Performance/price/mileage ratio... annoying. I know thats pretty broad considering all the different kinds of mods/parts/tweaks but anything with atleast 18mpg would be great, and any types of tips and suggestions would also be very helpful. I don't know very much about these cars, but I have been reading topics and posts for the past week or so... so hopefully i'll know this car…

I bought a complete 1981 280ZX for the whole drive train. The engine is not running and supposedly it's just a fuel issue. I pulled the spark plugs and it seemed each cylender was dry after trying to start it. Well I did a compression check, I need some advice. First off this motor has been sitting awhile and the head was rebuilt not to long ago, but I don't know how many miles have been put on since it was rebuilt. I did a compression check on each cylinder three times. Pulled all the plugs first. Then started on number one cylinder. 1. 139, 170, 170 2. 130, 138, 170 3. 180, 180, 180 4. 183, 182, 183 5. 180, 149, 100, 115 then added Marvel Mystery oil in cylinde…

Over the summer I am going to be taking apart my old project an 85 300zx and I was wondering what, if any, parts I could use off of it on my 73 240z. I am not sure but I think I have heard that I can use the distributor, I was looking for things like that. Thanks, Roger

Hello all; Unfortunately I don't like posting things like this but my Z left me stranded down in Niagara Falls two weeks ago and I had to have it towed home to Cambridge. anyway here's what happened. I was cruising on the QEW Niagara and merging onto the 402 to NOTL. I hit a nice deep crease in the highway and then all of a sudden my RPM jumped to ~5000rpm I thought it poped out of gear but it didn't. the car then proceeded to drop to ~1500rpm and bog, total loss of power. All of this in a span of a second or so with my accelerator at the same position. when it dipped i tried to accelerate through it but it just pulsated at me and no power. I downshifted and it caug…

Ok - I am stumped, new points, dist, coil, cap, new fclear fuel filter with gas drained and lines blown out. Car will idle for hours, drive 4 to 5 miles after it reaches temperature and it starts to bog and then dies. After I drained the gas it actually drove for about 10 miles around town and then did it again. Wait 10 min. and then it starts and maybe makes it home or dies another time. I have fuel, I have voltage at the points? I have replaced the wire from the coil to the points on the dist. Had my turn signal and combo switch rebuilt. Could it be the starter switch on the back of the ignition key switch. I have pulled and tugged on the wiring but can't make i…
