I was wondering if anyone knows how to get the electric fan to turn on.Mine will only turn on once I've turned the engine off, and then it runs for about 20 minutes. I have no idea where or how it senses the temp. The car tends to overheat in traffic-like conditions and most all of the cooling system is pretty much new at this point (waterpump, radiator, temostat, etc.). Thanks

A while back I bought a 76 280 for 300$ The kid that had it could not get it to run at the time I founf the boot Between the AFM and TB was Cracked so I taped it up all nice and pretty...I got it home and got it to stop smoking. Changed the oil and filters, Plugs. And checked for vacuume leaks over all it has vacuume and commpresson at 140lbs +/- 2lbs in all holes. The past owner did put in new injectors. But it misses and loads up then at times it will run fine other times it wants to cut out and die. Now other than a exhaust leak at #6 and where the manifold meets the pipe I can not see nothing out of wack. The TBS looks to be within spec and the thermotime other conect…

The wipers on my car have always been really slow (something that I've been leaving on the back burner for a while) and finally they went "cupoot" on me a couple days ago so I finally needed to do something about it to speed them up. Replacing the fuse got them going again (I think it was just taking way to much power to move them which was the cause of the blown fuse) so by taking appart all the moving wiper rods under the cowl and greasing every moving part got them to speed up move like their new! iT made a huge improvement then before. A whole lot safer too non the less. Any how, I thought I'd just suggest that taking appart the rods under the cowl and greasing everyt…

I just droped Ruby, my 1977 280Z, off at a mechanic who specialize in Z cars here in town for a dianostic. Well the problem is Ruby has been running kind of truck'ish lately and the Mechanic (mech) has found 5 things wrong. 1) The engine Block is a N42 and the Head is a N47. He said the pistions have built up carbon on the tops and are now hitting the bottom of the N47 Head. My main and most important question is What kind of head gasket thinkness do I need to buy to get the proper clearance and were can I buy one at. A place like Nappa Auto Supply maybe? So to I can either get a thicker head Gasket to fix the clearance issue or buy the correct Head which I believ…

Ok, I actually had a part fall off my 1977 280Z over the weekend. I was working on my car and trying to figure out why I keep getting lost power, black smoke ect. I had the car idling in the garage and it was back-firing. The next thing I know I hear a loud POP (backfire) and the engine dies. I then notice that the pipe that connects the intake and exhaust manifold is on the ground. It is a metal pipe---looks like a copper pipe with a large heat shield bolted to it. This pipe runs from the back side of the exhaust manifold to the underside of the intake manifold and connect to what I think is the EGR valve. Anyway now when I crank the car blue fire shoots out the open hol…

I'm having my '73 240Z engine rebuilt and am trying to install the Petronix ignition system in the stock distributor. I purchased the unit, but the garage that is rebuilding the car is telling me that the system isn't fitting correctly in the distributor. Something about the unit not being able to rotate. Can anyone tell me if the system does just "drop in" or is there something else that needs to be done? I have a manual transmission if that info is needed. Thanks

hello everyone , I just bought a 1975 280z from a man on its way to the crusher. jeuses loves me . i got it runing but the fuel mixture is very very rich. my ? is should the fuel in the jets stay at above the jet when pulled down and below the bridge. after the car has been runing and turned off.this car has a n54 with round top su's with 0.90 jets and n27 neddles . but the fuel from the tailpipe would choke a horse and make you turn on our winsheild wipers. i set the fuel bowl so that the fuel is above the jet and below the bridge when cranked over . but after the car is runing the fuel is no where over the jets when pulled down . do i have a bad fuel pump? any help ? or…

Well I just had my L28 put in my 260z. The engine is running great. Saturday I went to park it in the garage and now I have no clutch. I got under it and can feel the linkage has come off. I believe this is to the throw out bearing. It looks like the ball on the end of the cable has pulled out of the ring. I was wondering is there a place with schematics that would show the clutch assembly? Also do you know where I can buy the ring if thats what I need? I think if the ball has pulled out the ring will worn to the point that it cant be fixed without replacing. Thanks Chris.

Car = '72 240Z w/ after-market Crane electronic ignition Crazy thing!! Several months ago, I accidently let my 1 yr/old battery drain down to DEAD. So I charged it fully. But when I tried to start the car, it only made a clicking sound, like you hear when your battery is dead. All accesories seem to work OK. Started foolong around with it and found...voila! by turning on the headlights, the starter cranked right over and the car started great. Turned it off and tried again, same thing--headlights off, clicking; headlights on, starts right up. Does anyone know what the fix for this is? (don't know if this matters of not but when I initially tried to start it, the V…
