Help Me !!

This is the emergency HELP ME forum for those of you that are having troubles with your Z-Car and need immediate help.

Ok, I actually had a part fall off my 1977 280Z over the weekend. I was working on my car and trying to figure out why I keep getting lost power, black smoke ect. I had the car idling in the garage and it was back-firing. The next thing I know I hear a loud POP (backfire) and the engine dies. I then notice that the pipe that connects the intake and exhaust manifold is on the ground. It is a metal pipe---looks like a copper pipe with a large heat shield bolted to it. This pipe runs from the back side of the exhaust manifold to the underside of the intake manifold and connect to what I think is the EGR valve. Anyway now when I crank the car blue fire shoots out the open hol…

I'm having my '73 240Z engine rebuilt and am trying to install the Petronix ignition system in the stock distributor. I purchased the unit, but the garage that is rebuilding the car is telling me that the system isn't fitting correctly in the distributor. Something about the unit not being able to rotate. Can anyone tell me if the system does just "drop in" or is there something else that needs to be done? I have a manual transmission if that info is needed. Thanks

hello everyone , I just bought a 1975 280z from a man on its way to the crusher. jeuses loves me . i got it runing but the fuel mixture is very very rich. my ? is should the fuel in the jets stay at above the jet when pulled down and below the bridge. after the car has been runing and turned off.this car has a n54 with round top su's with 0.90 jets and n27 neddles . but the fuel from the tailpipe would choke a horse and make you turn on our winsheild wipers. i set the fuel bowl so that the fuel is above the jet and below the bridge when cranked over . but after the car is runing the fuel is no where over the jets when pulled down . do i have a bad fuel pump? any help ? or…

Well I just had my L28 put in my 260z. The engine is running great. Saturday I went to park it in the garage and now I have no clutch. I got under it and can feel the linkage has come off. I believe this is to the throw out bearing. It looks like the ball on the end of the cable has pulled out of the ring. I was wondering is there a place with schematics that would show the clutch assembly? Also do you know where I can buy the ring if thats what I need? I think if the ball has pulled out the ring will worn to the point that it cant be fixed without replacing. Thanks Chris.

Car = '72 240Z w/ after-market Crane electronic ignition Crazy thing!! Several months ago, I accidently let my 1 yr/old battery drain down to DEAD. So I charged it fully. But when I tried to start the car, it only made a clicking sound, like you hear when your battery is dead. All accesories seem to work OK. Started foolong around with it and found...voila! by turning on the headlights, the starter cranked right over and the car started great. Turned it off and tried again, same thing--headlights off, clicking; headlights on, starts right up. Does anyone know what the fix for this is? (don't know if this matters of not but when I initially tried to start it, the V…

Hi all, First time posting on this forum. I'm the 4th owner of HLS30-02675. Currently, I'm stuck on the struts. There's this gland packing on the top of the strut assembly. The manuals call for special tool ST35500000. From what I can see, this tool is basically a large hex head wrench but my gland packing is round with two notches lined up on a diameter. Any tricks on getting this sucker off? Another special tool perhaps? Thanks Bill Kingston, WA

  8. i recently bought a '78 280z for 500 bucks it wasn't running when i got it the guy i bought it from told me it had been sitting for about 4 years and the motor was rebuilt about a year before that. anyways it wasn't getting any fuel to the motor. i found the fuel line was rusted solid and the lines going in and out the tank were clogged i ran a new line replaced the fuel filter and pump and dropped the tank, blew the tank lines out with air and she runs.... i drove it around the block a couple of times the last few weeks but the first time i drove it for more than about 10 minutes it was running fine and then it suddenly died, i tried to restart it and it ran for about 10…

  10. i changed the timing components on my 78. everything was exactly like the book said. tdc #1 piston all that stuff. afterwards i replaced the crankshaft pulley and put it to tdc on #1 piston. now the bright link is on the other side of the sprocket, not on the side where its supposed to be. and now it runs even worse. im baffled. does any of this make sence? im still scratching my head. any help would be apreciated. thanks

  11. Ok, I just installed the new radiator and I have mounted the electric fan from Black dragon. The fan has two wires...Blue and Black, black is negative. To test the fan I ran the wires to the battery and it started blowing air...Yea...I think. Not to sound stupid, but where do I go from here? The instructions say nothing. If I run the wires direct into the battery it will be on all the time. I'm sure I'm missing something simple, but how the heck do I wire this thing. I want it to run when the key is on right.... Any help would be appreaciated. Randy

  12. Help - I am replacing my springs and struts all around, I am working on the rears. I took the old springs out w/o removing the spindle pin, i just dropped them down as was recommended. http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26144&highlight=rear+strut This worked great - My problem is in putting it all back together. I can't seem to get the halfshaft plates with 4 bolts lined up on the rear wheel assembly before I put the rear strut up into the wheel well. Every time I get the strut up to attach it with the 3 interior nuts - the halfshaft plates are too long to fit on the assembly. Is this just a matter of more hands and more wiggling or what ? do th…
