I have no clue what to do about the window on the passenger side. I heard a "clunk" while driving today, so when I got home I pulled the door panel and BAM...the window goes slidding down....didn't break however. There were two pieces just barely hanging on, the bolts were almost completly out and they were just dangling....(PO I assume did this) I went ahead and removed them and took the pictures of them. I pulled the window back up all the way and have it proped it up with one of the "arms". I was going to try and put everything back, and even after consulting Wick and Hanes, I have no clue. I have sat out here and rolled the window up and down to try and see how …

Hey guys, Yes, I'll do a search later, but I'm right in the middle of this project and was hoping for a quick answer. I installed new weatherstripping on the passenger side, and when I close the door I have a huge gap....I can get at least two fingers in the gap. Before I placed the new rubber the door closed perfectly. What's the best resolution to my problem. I'm assuming the same will happen when I move to the drivers side. Thank, Randy

I bought a Fridgidair A/C unit from a 73 240z that was an aftermarket unit. It is in perfect condition. My 72Z did not have air and I don't know where some of the parts connect. I wonder where the power to the control box connects under the dash. There is a solid wire coming from the control box, I don't know where this goes. also, there is a drain hose that goes through the firewall, does it connect under the AC unit or is that hole where the solid wire goes? I am going to use a rotary compressor and mount it where the smog pump went. Should be the best of both worlds on a hot day. Thanks Bob M

Not sure where to post this, so it ended up here. I have done numerous searches on gas tank removal, and not found the answer to my question. I did see the link to the fuel tank removal guide somewhere here, but it did not mention if any other components of the car need to be removed to get the tank out. If no other parts have to be removed, then I can follow the instructions on that link. I have limited tools where the car is stored, so I would like to know in advance of me planning the removal as to how involved, how much time it may take or if I need to bring any additional tools. Thanks for any light you may be able to shed on this for me! Regards, Astrohog

Does anyone have a door window GUIDE CHANNEL to spare?????????? Seems they're about as rare as hen's teeth. My "She Who Must Be OBEYED" decided she'd come with me for a quick spin around town, started to wind up the window and complained that it was hard to wind so, on our return, I removed the door panel and, LO and BEHOLD, one snapped off bolt. (I wondered what that rattling sound was coming from the door). Anyway, .... anyone got a guide channel they can let me have?????????? Rick. :devious: :devious:

According to the mechanic that I have working on my air conditioner, some of the wiring in the dash is "bleeding" over to other components and could cause the battery to go down when the vehicle parked for several days. Would anyone know if I have to replace the Harness Assembly that controls the wipers, rear defroster, air conditioner, etc. or if there are portions of it that can be replaced? Also, is there anywhere that I can find replacement wiring that did not come out of another car that has been sitting in a junkyard for several years? Be gentle...I am a new member and haven't owned a Zcar in 26 years. Hornz

I recently acquired a '78 280Z and am in the process of restoring it, everything works well and is in decent shape except for the rear-end. It had a nasty CLUNK when shifting gears and makes a WOOM-WOOM-WOOM noise when you get the speed up to about 30mph and up. Well I checked the differential and sure enough it was shot with about a half turn of play on the input yoke. I found a nice tight used one locally and swapped out the old diff. That cured the CLUNK noise but it still has the WOOM-WOOM noise. I took the rear brakes apart no sign of problems, and I took the rear hubs apart to check the bearings, everything was great and fresh grease didn't stop the noise. I did not…

It was in the 50's today, so I decided to take my new 78 280z 2+2 for a ride, and had some problems. When I start it it idles rough, (sounds like it has a big cam in it. ) but when I rev it , there is a slight stumble at first, then it revs smoothly, and runs pretty good. I drove it for about a half hour, and I stopped at Burger King, went through the drive thru, sat for 10 minutes with it running (idling rough) , and decided to shut it off. Sat for 5 more minutes to eat, and tried to start it back up, and it acted like it was flooded. I tried starting until the battery died. Walked to the Firestone dealer (3/4 mile), they wouldn't help me, so I walked to Sears (another m…

This is unbelievable. Today was an awsome day to fire up any sports car in Chicago. I decided to take my Z for a drive after finally fixing the Toyota brakes (They work great!). I drove it to the local store, but hitched a ride in a tow truck for the journey home. Leaving the parking lot, I was in first gear and had begun to reach for the shifter at about 3.5 thousand rpm. I started to hear a pinging/grinding noise come from the motor which I am not afraid to admit I built myself. As some of you may know this is a fairly fresh motor. Hearing this heart sinking noise, I got on the clutch and she then died on me. I knew whatever that noise was didnt sound good therefore I m…

Hi – I am the original owner of a 240, SE, 1991 fastback. She has 84K miles on her, is misty blue metallic and purrs like a cat. I adore her. She has been good to me and I have been good to her. She has been in a closed garage when not used for 12 years. Three questions: 1. my 15-month-old battery with a 72-month guarantee would not turn her over. I got a jump and brought it back to NTB, where I bought the battery. They did a diagnostic on it and said the battery health was at 80 percent but the charge was 30 percent and that was because I was not driving it enough. My alternator was fine. I drive her 3-4 times a week, but only for 3-6 miles at a time. Are they…

Well, my stepson walked in this evening after being out with the Z all day and announced that he thinks "there's a problem with the car." Well, to make a short story shorter, it seems as if the bolts holding the cover on the diff had loosened and he lost a mess of gear oil. The ring and pinion are now howling on acceleration & deceleration. Crap... I went underneath, re-torqued the cover bolts and was going to add some gear oil to the diff when I dicovered that the fill plug is fairly well seized and the DPO had done a fair job rounding it off at some point in time. More Crap... I'm thinking this R180 now needs a rebuild, based on the whine. Am I being paranoid, or…
