So, Looking under the car this weekend, I noticed that there is some play in the main Driveline U joint but it is strange... It's not acting like play in the needle bearings, but side to side as if the wrong c-clips were used, not getting that sung fit that I typically see. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, dropping that shaft is a pain in the butt from the diffy, anyone know of a method that may be a bit easier? You can't hit it from the back with an extension because the rear end is in the way and the angle from the mount is odd and there is not much room for twisting the 12mm nut that is on the diffy end... I really want this thing off to also check the pinon nu…

i have a 1977 280z, the problem is that the brakes keep squeaking. i took it to 2 shops and they said they cant do anything about it, that Datsuns Z's are known for squeaky brakes. Is there anyone that had the problem and what was the solution is. Would love to have a solution, thier driving me crazy.

Hey folks, Got some disturbing sounds coming from my trans tunnel, sounds like a bad U-joint, but evidently, it's not. Only present with the clutch out and accelerating / decelerating or at cruise with a light load, an oscillating / 'revolving' scrape / clank that sounds like something's broken or in the process of breaking. Mechanic says the clutch is good, trans is good, motor is good. I assume he means operationally. Clutch doesn't seem to have a problem, got a little 'grunchiness' going into 2nd and 3rd when cold(worn synchros, no big deal), no vibration at speed. I'm not sure what the heck this is and I've got a 130 mile road trip coming next week, which I can't a…

hello forum. i am new and it looks like you pros have lots of experience with these engines. i just bought a datsun 72s pickup that has a z motor in it with a weber carb. i was told the truck needed a new fuel pump and ran fine untill 2 months ago. i replaced the electric fuel pump on the frame rail and am still experiencing what i feel is fuel starvation issues. the truck starts and idles perfect. since the new fuel pump it also revs great, no hesitation and full exhaust revving. the problem is, as soon as the truck is driving, it starts to bog and tries to die. the engine is running perfect unless the truck is rolling. i can even push the clutch and work the gas…

I am new to both this forum and zcars. Having recently purchased a 1983 280zx (non-turbo) and proceeding to fix it up I have run into a problem and not sure where to go next. I have adjusted the per the manual and now have this problem. As I increase the RPMs and watch the timing advance suddenly at about 1800 rpm the timing drops back to about 2 degress BTDC. Then it continues to advance as the RPMs increase from there. Does somebody have any idea what might be causing this? Thx, Mike

Greetings everyone.....! i'm very new here....after 4 years of sitting in the gargage, i finally got my '78 280Z running...my only problem now is the fuel pump wont shut off when i turn the key all the way to off...i got a new igition switch...still to no avail! another note...my brake lite and voltmeter guage lite still still on also...i've drain my battery a few times this way...but just unpluggin the fuel pump...! Please help! could this be an ignition/fuel pump relay in the kick panel on the left passenger side? Sok

I'm in the middle of trying to replace the heater core and it looks like it will be a heck of a lot easier with the glove box removed, but I can't seem to get it out. Going down hits the blower motor and trying to squeeze it through the glove box opening isn't working either, so HELP!!! Thanks, Bob

I just swapt a 1979 280sx 5 spd in my 1971 240z and it is hard to shift. Its a good tranny it just is hard to shift. What do i do to get it to shift smooth?

So i am rebuilding my 1971 Datsun 240z and its runs great except the linkage to the su carbs sticks sometimes. I believe its because there needs to be a rubber grommet of some sort on the mechanism on the firewall that holds the linkage (like a long circular tube). ANY HELP WHERE TO GET ONE?? Keith
