ok, heres the deal...its a 76 280 F/I, with the a/c off and the car in neutral, if i step on the gas to bump my rpm's the engine will bog down for a second two ever so slightly....with the a/c on, the engine bogs down to about 3-400rpm's and catches itself before it dies and jumps back up to idol normal again. it does the same thing when im driving and put the clutch in...no biggie cuz i get it in the next gear before it hits 800 rpm's, until i hafta come to a stop. its got new injectors, fuel pump, and airflow meter.... and it doesnt matter if its hot or cold...it does it all the frickin time!!! any ideas would be greatly appreciated... thankyou

Don't know if any of you have experienced this, but I have a head that refuses to part company with the block. I have tried pushing up from the bottom side on the drivers side where the head extends past the block with a 2x2 and a hydraulic jack. I have jacked until the front tire was off the ground. I have tried from the top side with a 4x4 resting on the shock towers with a 2T hydraulic jack on top of it with a chain connected to the two engine lift brackets and have raised it until the cam was at the bottom of the 4x4. It will not come loose. Arne has suggested trying a cherry picker to lift the engine by the head and drop it then suddenly closing the valve on th…

I am really close to buying some rims. Rota RB 16X8. the offset is +04. Will these clear my 75 280Z with tokiko springs and shocks? Will I need wheel spacers? Also, if I do ZG flares fender flares will I need wheel spacer to fit the rims? I am not sure if I want to do ZG flares but everytime I see it, it keeps looking better and better. I have searched everywhere but can't seem to find any help. Someone please help me. thanks

I'm in the process of swapping out my old brake lines with a stainless steel line kit. Not the flexible lines, but the hard lines. Where do I get the rubber insulators that isolate the lines from the chassis?

Valve Problem 1 2

Hi, I have the cam timing set properly on my 71 240z, but I have run into what I see as an unusual problem. The head has recently been machined. After doing a cold adjust on the valves, the cam would not turn through a full rotation. After alot of investigation, it was found that the cam was trying to compress a couple of the valve springs further than they wanted to go. Has anyone here had a problem like this. What is the easiest fix? Thanks

I have been searching the forums for over an hour now and just do not have the right combination of search terms to locate what I'm looking for. There was a thread a while back that was discussing the differences between the various 5-speed tranny models. In the thread was a pic of two 5-speeds side by side standing up on end (I think that the background was orange) and one was from a '77. It illustrated the difference based upon the mounting ears on the 'nose' of the tranny (one ear vs. two). Does anyone have a link to this thread?

Hi. I have a 72z automatic. When I turn on my turn signal, my headlights and interior lights flash with them. I have installed a new Nissan voltage regulator. Cleaned up the battery ground to the body. Put an extra ground wire from the Altenator to the body, and cleand up other ground wires. Any suggestions on what might fix the problem would be a great help. Thanks Bill.

My 280z has not been running right for some time now. I have tried many different things but as of a few min. ago I tried something new. The car will crank and run but not well enough to drive. It runs really rich and sounds as if it is not running on all cyl. Tonight I cranked the car with no trouble and it ran like crap as usual. I began to pull the injecter plug wires off the injectors. The car continued to run. I then began to put them back on and the car sputtered and died. Do the injectors defualt to open? Im not sure whats goin on? the motor was rebuilt within the past year or so. the injectors are rebuilt and the fuel pump and fuel tank is new. There is a…

When I got my 77 280 someone had removed the fusible links on the engine compartment fender. I have put in 2 link holders and need to know what size to use. My 75 uses a black 1.25 mm (.049") and a green .5mm (.020"). My 77 has 4 fusible links, I guess 2 are replacing the shunt my 75 has. I have called around but nobody will tell me the size. They will sell them to me but pretend not to know the size. I would also like to know the size of the links on the battery cables. Thanks

I am preparing to remove the head on my Z and in setting things to TDC I have found the #1 timing mark on the cam sprocket falls between two chain links, rather than in the middle of a link as photos show and past experience has been. There is no "bright" link in the chain that I have been able to find. I have cleaned it, but not one link stands out from the others. The notch on the camshaft sprocket is just to the right of the line on the locating plate as it should be. The crank pulley TDC mark is lined up with the timing pointer. Rotor in the distributor is on #1. Cam lobes for #1 are at 10 and 2. So it is on TDC. Any ideas? Any reason to be concerned as long …

I feel kind of funny asking you guys this not knowing what I have here, but I was looking through my parts box and came across this part that we bought at Napa a few years ago and apparently haven't installed it yet. I showed it to my dad and he didn't remember what it was either. I tried looking the through the shop manual and couldn't come up with anything. Any way, here is a picture of it and would love to know what this is! Thanks. -Austen.
