HELP! My husband changed the right rear wheel cylinders on his 280Z. While he was doing it, he replaced the brake shoes. Now he can't seem to get the drum back on the back wheels. He didn't keep the old shoes but said they looked identical to the new ones - that the new ones just looked "new" and "slightly thicker". He said the drums had never been removed and were kind of tight coming off. Does anyone know what could be the problem? Is there a "trick" to putting the drums back on????

I am trying to wake the sleeping beast and I am following the directions in the same named thread about trying to coldstart an engine that has sat. I didn't use ATF fluid but I did use Mystery Oil and was told I should get the same results. I am ataching pictures of the engine w/o the cover to see if any one notices anything out of place. I can not get the pulley to budge. I will try it again this morning to see if any of that oil helped lossen up the motor. For clarification purposes, the 27mm bolt on the pulley that I am supposed to be trying to turn would be the bolt that lays directly behind the bottom of the fan blades and has a belt around it. Correct?:stupid:…

I got an e-brake boot for Christmas for my 76 280z, and the boot has four snaps on it. Well in my car, there aren't any snaps, there's just carpet and the car never had one on there when we bought it. It says on the pakage 70-78 240, 260, 280z so is the right one. Any way, my dad thought about buying velcro and seeing and taping it on the the carpet or buying the other side for the snaps and punching them into the carpet, but not sure which is the best way to mount it. What have you guys done to mount these since they don't have the clips?

Ok, I've just spent the last 4 hours trying to tune my 1971 240Z. I thought I would be through in 30-45 minutes at the most. This is the first time I've tried to tune it since I bought it. Anyway, before I set the dwell and timing I checked them both. The dwell was at 28 degrees and the timing was actually running slightly before the first mark on the pulley so it was running after TDC (right?). So, I set the dwell at 38 degrees and the timing at 5 degrees BTDC (the second mark). The engine actually ran worse. No pickup and back-fired through the first carb. So, I took the domes off the carbs, cleaned the dampers, put new oil in them, etc and kept trying. Still, ran poor…

i seem to be having a problem with alternators for the last few years. it doesn't matter if it's a new alternator or a reman. the current alternator is new, and i've had it about a year and it's dead. the voltage reg is not very old and the wiring has been redone a few years back, and the belt is good and not slipping. any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated. also, what is involved with converting to a zx alternator with the internal voltage regulator? by the way i have a 73 240z.

Found out the hard way that front brake pad clips break easily... I was able to get another set ordered from O'Reily's (arriving tomorrow). So I can avoid the same problem next time, what's the proper way to install them without bending or breaking them? On a high note... the new pads went on pretty easily.

I feel terrible posting in this section for my first post but it needs to be done...First off this is my first car (dreams come true), never thought it would be possible, but I picked up a '72 240Z with 83,550kmi, triple webers w/ k&n filters, rear sway bar, Monza Exhaust(I think, can't find the name right now...guy gave me 2 to be exact), 15 inch rims/tires, whaletail, urethane front, plus extra goodies like nice new fuel lines, new wiring harness, performance springs (unsure what make or spring load) and a few others here and there. Problem is the guy who sold it to me had inherited it from a friend meaning that he knew nothing about what his friend had done to it p…

Just got a 1973 240Z w/automatic... trying to replace all the fluids, so I thought I would drain the differential and refill this afternoon. Had no problem draining (once I got the plug unsiezed), but the filling is a problem. Is that stubby plastic fill plug on the top of the "diff" really the inlet for the new oil? If so, how does one overcome the narrow clearance and gravity to refill??? The access is so limited, I'm not sure if I can even get a tube in there to pump it in...

Greetings all, I hope you guys don't throw me off because of all my questions. I noticed yesterday and today( here in Knoxville, TN it's been in the low 60's) while driving my temp gauge is just barely moving past 120. I went on the interstate for about 4 miles after a 15-20 mile leisure drive and thought maybe it should register hotter. I figure I will go ahead and replace the thermostate next week, unless you guys think otherwise. I did do a search on this but the post that came back addressed "over heating" not "under" Is this cause for alarm, or just normal. Again, Thanks. Randy
