I was about 1 mile from at the gas pump recently when my 72 240z refused to start. I had my wife crank over the engine until I saw smoke coming from the smog pump, air pump, whatever it is called. The pump would not turn and the belt was up around the rim of the pulley, causing the other belts to be frozen. I had no tools, so I cut the belt and drover her home. My question: is it safe to drive the car without that belt? Will not having this pump working affect the performance or gas mileage of the car? I am not really concerned about emissions at the moment, I just need my baby to get me to work!

Put on my left signal this morning in my 1977 280 2+2 and the headlights died. Not working still! Do I need to replace the entire switch assy or can I do something to repair or bypass the dimmer/turn signal? My dash lights have been in and out for weeks as well. Same circuit, can I bypass something? Thanks Marty

I am having a terible time locating interior parts for my 80zx. I must admit I don't have much experience looking for Datsun parts but I thought I would be able to find something. I would realy appreciate some guidance from someone with experience finding these things. Thanks Van

Ok, I finally got around to having the gas tank cleaned and re-lined on my '77 280z and that solved my hesitation problem. Now I'm dealing with the infamous high idle when downshifting. It was taking 4 or 5 seconds for the idle to drop when shifting into first but now it stays high and will not drop down to the normal RPMs. Can it be adjusted or does it need to be replaced? I cannot find a vacuum leak so I'm ruling that out. If it does need to be replaced where do I find one. I read on another board of replacing the throttle body with a TWM throttle body...I'm wanting to stay stock as much as possible but I really would like to solve the idle problem...thx

its a stock 5spd. 81' ZX (my other daily driver). just got her and the driveline has some seriously noise clunks in between shifts and vibrates the hell outta you past 45mph. for instance, if im at a stop light. i can put the car in first gear. then, i can put her in Neutral, let out the clutch, and "CLUNK" .it sounds just like when my 260 had a bad u joint in the halfshaft. i got under there the other day and cant seem to find any play in either halfshaft. so im going to take the shafts out of my other 280 today and put them in and see if that makes a difference. MY question is this: if it is not the halfshafts, then what in the driveshaft would do that? some transm…

Not urgent but it would be nice to have my exhaust/intake manifold gasket changed this weekend. My car is a 1971Z, which recently under went the turbo swap. The motor in it now is the 1983 ZXT motor with the webbed intake manifold. For those who know, getting to the bolts that hold the intake and exhasut on a SU carbed motor are easy to take out, since getting your fingers between the runners is possible. However, with the webbed manifold there is no where to access the bolts. My question here is this: is the webbed fuel injected manifold bolted to the head the same way as the carbed style? On the SU carbed style manifold there are several bolts that hold both the intake …

There's a detailed thread on my question but unfortunately I've not been able to find it. I have had my tank professionally cleaned and pressure tested & all that is left is lining the tank. I bought the POR-15 tank liner & am prepared for the last step. My question is how have you gys plugged the vent tubes on the tank? Of course I don't want the liner to harden in the lines. I have thought of feeding some type of twine through the tubes with plenty of excess hanging out. When I was finished shaking & baking the tank then I could just pull the twine out by the Fuel Sender hole & the tubes would be clean. It seems like there's got to be an easier way …

My wife uncovered a 1971 240Z at a friends house that has been stored in a garage for at least the last 10 years. Freinds of hers have moved into their mothers house to help her in her old age. The car belongs to the next door neighbor and he has been storing it there because he didn't have room for it. Our friends want it out of the garage and told my wife to tell me to make an offer and come pick it up if I want it. The car was an automatic that was rebuilt with a 84/85 280 5 speed. Other than that it is all original. Because of this news I began searching the internet to find info and came across this great site. My questions for you experts are: 1. What would be a…

Hello All, I am getting my car back from paint and as like most things go we have found more parts that have disassembled into more pieces than was intended. I have found my door lock grommets and my wiper boots , but my question was with the hatch lock assembly. Does the hatch assembly have a grommet as well? And is there anything else one might suggest , all the fenders, doors , and glass was removed before paint and all the hardware is out still so if I am forgetting something that is much easier to put in now instead of later I would appreciate info. Thanks Jeff

Okay the best description I can give I have a 1973 240z (it had been sitting since 91) with recently added used round top carbs that came with an intake manifold and a cheap new electric fuel pump. I removed all the junk on the balance tube including the line from the exhaust and the coolant lines the coolant line that ran into the manifold was removed but left unplugged when I bought the manifold and I left it that way .I also removed the air pump junk. I have adjusted the float to Haynes specifications. I know that cylinder number two (counting from the front) has no compression. The symptoms I am experiencing: when it did move (before major adjustment)it had a major la…
