I am finally getting my 1971 240Z into reliable running order. I have had her for about three weeks and have replaced the following: tires, exhaust, plugs, wires, distributor cap, points, condenser, alternator belt, battery and terminals. Today, I thought I would take her for a spin as it is beautiful out, so I called my buddy (1973 240Z) and we met up, decided on a route to take and hit it. He had asked me to get up to 80 mph on the freeway so he could check his speedo, so we did...then 85...then 90, when I went to back off the throttle, the rpm's would not drop!! I had to use the brakes to get the r's down and got off the freeway. When we stopped and popped the ho…

I'm having rear brake problems (among other things) on my modified '71 and believe that the drums are out of spec. The car already has various upgrades made by the last owner including adjustable suspension, modified head, agressive cam, triple Mikunis, etc. Given that new drums would cost around $200, should I consider adding a bolt-on disc package instead of investing in the drums? If so, any suggestions for a specific package or vendor? Also, will a new porportioning valve be needed? Thanks for any advice. BTW - I'm a former SCCA track worker from St. Louis. Does anybody recall seeing the awesome yellow Z racer of Logan Blackburn back in the late 70s?

ok, the auto store i got my spark plugs from says the gap is supposed to be like .30-.34, however, the book says it needs to be at .39-.44 (or somewhere round there). seems like thats a pretty wide gap in numbers to me...and i thought the first set of numbers was for the l24 and l26. i have a 76 280 with the fi l28. now if they go up a year to the 77, it specifies the second gap numbers, but i thought the 76 and 77 had the same engine? so whats the deal? and how am i supposed to gap these dang plugs?? thanks, jacqui

Just changed head gaskets on a 83 zxt. Naturally dropped the timing chain so had to pull the timing cover also. Got it all back together and she runs BUT i'm leaking coolant out of one of the timing cover bolts. It is on the passenger side up close to the head and holds the alternator tensioner arc arm as the stationary point. Anyone have an idea why this is happening and what to do about it. Tried putting some rtv on the bolt and retightening but didn't stop the leak. Don't know what the status was before the new head gasket as I bought the rascal cheap not running but supposedly running until the head gasket went at about 195k. any help appreciated.

Hey all, I just rewired my 71 Z with a 73 harness It WAS working fine(with the exception of reverse lights(still working on figuring that out) and turn signals(pretty sure its the combo switch) Anyways, tonight, I tried the start the car, there was a click sound(like the sound from the voltage regulator), and then nothing from the starter or anything, so i turned the key back to the Off position and there was another click from the VR. I tried to start the car again, same thing. So then i tried just turning on the headlights, VR clicks again, and i have no lights or anything. Turn the lights off, theres a click again from the VR. So i get out and pop the hood, turned on t…

hi all, i need some help. i recently got myself an old 280z(1975 american) and am doing it up slowly(real slowl!!) but i wanted to do an engine swap. i decided on the 1jzgte (blasphemy!!! i know) path coz i really like that engine run by a haltech e6x with a w55 gearbox (just like in that zoom magazine from way back when). i have had afew issues along the way that arent too serious but trouble me a wee bit coz i want the car to work just right. my problem is this, i want my gauges to work, but with the toyo engine and gearbox i'm wondering what to do, do any of you know a set of aftermarket gauges that would work for the speedo and tacho fit in the dash and look good…

I got the new alternator for the car and should have went in easy. Nope....everything was fine until we went to plug in the wires. Should have slid right in. They wouldn't. Can't get the wires to attatch at all. Also, the fusable link seems to have got hot and has melted together. Any comments or suggestions?? I am at a loss right now

okay heres the story. I got 2 1/2" piping on my 75 280Z all the way back to a magnaflow muffler also 2 1/2" in/outlet with no cats or resonator. sounds awesome at idle but way tooo loud at 2-3K. my question is should i put a 2 1/4" resonator or a 2 1/2" resonator? how much quiter wouild this be and are there any downside to using the smaller 2 1/4" resonator. i been hearing things like i need back pressure. so i was thinking of going with the smaller 2 1/4" resonator to get some back pressure. my only mods are CAI intake (cheapo ebay), and i am instally my NISMO headers sometimes next week

Hey guys, you may remember a while back i posted about some clunking that seemed to be coming from my rear end. I looked at it and it seemd to be coming from inside the diff. Well, for numerous reasons this problem went unattended until now. Yesterday while out for a short drive, i shifed into 4th gear and the most god-forsaken banging started coming from the rear end. It was so loud and seemed to send jolts thru the car. I got it home and parked it. Im assuming whatever was broken in the diff before finally bit the dust totally. Now i want to be absolutely sure its the diff and not something else before I go off and get another one. I will say that the transmissi…
