ok so i have a 280 z engine and a 280 z transmission, im not too sure of the years on either one though, i was hoping maybe someone could tell me where to look on either for some sort of number or something, anyways, so the problem im having is an extremely loud rattling sound comming from the tranny, i found out i need a new throw out bearing, the shop also said that i would or at least should also do a new clutch plate and have the fly wheel turned, and something else, im not sure, he said that if your gonna change the throw out bearing you mite as well do everything else, he also said the reason it was worn out was because i have my clutch too tight so it needs to be a…

so if anyone remembers, about month back i posted a thread about a possible throw out bearing problem, im having this really loud knocking/hitting type sound from somewhere between the transmission and the engine, transmission is perfect, nothing wrong with it, sounds like theres something loose or something broke off and its rattling around inside the engine or trqanny, thought i had a bad throw out bearing because when i pushed the clutch in, it would be alot more silent, almost bearly making a noise, but soon as i let off the clutch, bam!! rattles like my trannys not on right or something, i dropped the tranny and looked at the throw out bearing, its practically brand …

I am having some issues with the shifter and I was hoping someone may provide some insight before I start tearing into this. I recently purchased a 73 Z that has a 5spd tranny out of a 77-79, (I believe it to be a 78). I’m thinking that the prior owner may have used the shifter from the original 4spd. There are indications on the lever that it was heated and it is definitely bent The problems I am having are 1. there is an area to the left of 1st and 2nd that the shifter can go into, and you can shift up and down., and be in this “dead areaâ€ Because of this, you sort of have to “findâ€ 1st gear since there is no stop. 2. once you think you have found 1st gear …

I have a 1971 240z, with practically all drivetrain/engine dual carb etc. original. Im having problems going past 55mph.. It seems to just not want to rev anymore. I Know its not the tranny, or the clutch or of that sort. It was recently fixed for a clutch for and new clutch was put in. I have a new air filter, new spark plugs, spark plug wire, no compression problem according to the mechanic. once i hit 55 the car just doesn't seem to want to pull or go any higher. It almost feels like if it were a rev/speed limiter. Its getting fuel, it can rev first and second, but when it comes to third gear it only goes to abut 4k. and stays there, four gear cant go past 3k. So im …

I was just wondering if there was a good outlet for headlamp adjusters. Everything I find is universal fit and doesn't seem like it would do a good job. thanks!

Hi - I am new to the club and need help and advice with a 72 240Z problem. The car is stock - except that the emission controls have been removed and the auto tranny has been replaced with the period correct 4 spd. It also has AC. The car idles and runs like a champ untill I really get on it. So if I am driving along at say 60 MPH and I stomp on it, the engine misses or hesitates at about 5000 RPM. Like it is has a governor on it. I susepected ignition problems or perhaps fuel...blockage somewhere. I tried from a dead stop and in first gear it pulls hard all the way up to the yellow line. Then in second, it chokes at around 5000. It is interesting that once it choke…

My son and I almost have our '71 complete, but we are missing one of the very small, flat nuts that holds the metal hood emblem down. We have looked everywhere for a replacement and have come up empty! Does anyone know where I we can find one or does anyone have a spare by any chance?

I searched the forums but haven't found an issue like I'm having. I'm in the process of getting my newly acquired Z ready for the state inspection and after I thought it was all ready to go, I'm now stumped. Initially, all switches and lights worked but the horn wasn't working. After checking the fuses and making sure they were OK, I looked around the area by the grille where the horns are and noticed that one of the wires was not connected to the tab on one of the horns. I connected the wire and the horn started working (albeit very weakly). Problem now is that only the turn signals are not working. Every other electrical system seems to be functioning OK but no par…

Well, the car has sat in the garage for around six years. I parked it to restore it, but I never quite got around to fixing it until now. The car is backfiring and I don't have any throttle response. I changed both of the filters and cleaned the fuel pick-up. The fuel-tank appears to be clean, but I'm still having problems with it. Blue smoke is coming out of the tail pipe, but the spark plugs are all firing. What can I do to fix this problem?

Hi Everyone, Another story of "Murphy" on my case. finaly getting around to fitting the 280z/zx (2 piston rear brakes) brakes i have sitting around but i have a problem with the hand brake. when i push the brake pedel the piston pushes out and when i release pressure the piston retracts but when i engage the handbrake the piston extrudes but doesn't retract when i let the hand brake off. then when you apply the handbrake again the piston pushes out further and then wont go back in to where it was. i cant find an exploded view of the brakes but expect it to be the auto adjustment feature playing up but i dont know how to fix it. if anyone has had this problem and has fixed…

OK.. my problem is that the body of my car is shifting off of the frame. I.E., the wheels are more toward the front of the fender than the rear.. a lot. Clearance between the rear of the tire and the fender is about 5". And clearance between the front of the tire and the fender is about 1.5". I haven't a clue how to fix this. Due to this problem, I cannot install my front air dam properly, because it rubs the front tires!! HELP ME!!

Last week, I decided to change the fuel filter. Before pulling the filter, I followed all the directions about releaving the fuel line pressure, thankfully. I had, however an impossible time installing the new filter. Try as I might, the hose would barely go on. I pushed, cursed, twisted, pushed, etc. and finally got it on enough to clamp, but not on enough to feel safe about. So yesterday I went to Napa and found hose that fit better (5/8" or 7.9mm, if memory serves) and went about installing it today on all the affected lines. Two issues came up. The first was that the fuel line towards the nose of the car (not attached to filter) decided to spout like a lazy gusher …
