hi all, i need some help. i recently got myself an old 280z(1975 american) and am doing it up slowly(real slowl!!) but i wanted to do an engine swap. i decided on the 1jzgte (blasphemy!!! i know) path coz i really like that engine run by a haltech e6x with a w55 gearbox (just like in that zoom magazine from way back when). i have had afew issues along the way that arent too serious but trouble me a wee bit coz i want the car to work just right. my problem is this, i want my gauges to work, but with the toyo engine and gearbox i'm wondering what to do, do any of you know a set of aftermarket gauges that would work for the speedo and tacho fit in the dash and look good…

I got the new alternator for the car and should have went in easy. Nope....everything was fine until we went to plug in the wires. Should have slid right in. They wouldn't. Can't get the wires to attatch at all. Also, the fusable link seems to have got hot and has melted together. Any comments or suggestions?? I am at a loss right now

okay heres the story. I got 2 1/2" piping on my 75 280Z all the way back to a magnaflow muffler also 2 1/2" in/outlet with no cats or resonator. sounds awesome at idle but way tooo loud at 2-3K. my question is should i put a 2 1/4" resonator or a 2 1/2" resonator? how much quiter wouild this be and are there any downside to using the smaller 2 1/4" resonator. i been hearing things like i need back pressure. so i was thinking of going with the smaller 2 1/4" resonator to get some back pressure. my only mods are CAI intake (cheapo ebay), and i am instally my NISMO headers sometimes next week

Hey guys, you may remember a while back i posted about some clunking that seemed to be coming from my rear end. I looked at it and it seemd to be coming from inside the diff. Well, for numerous reasons this problem went unattended until now. Yesterday while out for a short drive, i shifed into 4th gear and the most god-forsaken banging started coming from the rear end. It was so loud and seemed to send jolts thru the car. I got it home and parked it. Im assuming whatever was broken in the diff before finally bit the dust totally. Now i want to be absolutely sure its the diff and not something else before I go off and get another one. I will say that the transmissi…

ok so i have a 280 z engine and a 280 z transmission, im not too sure of the years on either one though, i was hoping maybe someone could tell me where to look on either for some sort of number or something, anyways, so the problem im having is an extremely loud rattling sound comming from the tranny, i found out i need a new throw out bearing, the shop also said that i would or at least should also do a new clutch plate and have the fly wheel turned, and something else, im not sure, he said that if your gonna change the throw out bearing you mite as well do everything else, he also said the reason it was worn out was because i have my clutch too tight so it needs to be a…

so if anyone remembers, about month back i posted a thread about a possible throw out bearing problem, im having this really loud knocking/hitting type sound from somewhere between the transmission and the engine, transmission is perfect, nothing wrong with it, sounds like theres something loose or something broke off and its rattling around inside the engine or trqanny, thought i had a bad throw out bearing because when i pushed the clutch in, it would be alot more silent, almost bearly making a noise, but soon as i let off the clutch, bam!! rattles like my trannys not on right or something, i dropped the tranny and looked at the throw out bearing, its practically brand …

I am having some issues with the shifter and I was hoping someone may provide some insight before I start tearing into this. I recently purchased a 73 Z that has a 5spd tranny out of a 77-79, (I believe it to be a 78). I’m thinking that the prior owner may have used the shifter from the original 4spd. There are indications on the lever that it was heated and it is definitely bent The problems I am having are 1. there is an area to the left of 1st and 2nd that the shifter can go into, and you can shift up and down., and be in this “dead areaâ€ Because of this, you sort of have to “findâ€ 1st gear since there is no stop. 2. once you think you have found 1st gear …

I have a 1971 240z, with practically all drivetrain/engine dual carb etc. original. Im having problems going past 55mph.. It seems to just not want to rev anymore. I Know its not the tranny, or the clutch or of that sort. It was recently fixed for a clutch for and new clutch was put in. I have a new air filter, new spark plugs, spark plug wire, no compression problem according to the mechanic. once i hit 55 the car just doesn't seem to want to pull or go any higher. It almost feels like if it were a rev/speed limiter. Its getting fuel, it can rev first and second, but when it comes to third gear it only goes to abut 4k. and stays there, four gear cant go past 3k. So im …

I was just wondering if there was a good outlet for headlamp adjusters. Everything I find is universal fit and doesn't seem like it would do a good job. thanks!

Hi - I am new to the club and need help and advice with a 72 240Z problem. The car is stock - except that the emission controls have been removed and the auto tranny has been replaced with the period correct 4 spd. It also has AC. The car idles and runs like a champ untill I really get on it. So if I am driving along at say 60 MPH and I stomp on it, the engine misses or hesitates at about 5000 RPM. Like it is has a governor on it. I susepected ignition problems or perhaps fuel...blockage somewhere. I tried from a dead stop and in first gear it pulls hard all the way up to the yellow line. Then in second, it chokes at around 5000. It is interesting that once it choke…

My son and I almost have our '71 complete, but we are missing one of the very small, flat nuts that holds the metal hood emblem down. We have looked everywhere for a replacement and have come up empty! Does anyone know where I we can find one or does anyone have a spare by any chance?
