I just bought my first Z - it is a 73 240Z. It drove ok, but now it doesn't start. There is a clicking-type noise from the passenger side floor area when I turn the key. The starter motor doesn't start - but the battery is charged, all the electricals (radio, etc) work fine. Help!? I'm fairly car-clueless... Reethi

I finished my whole suspension. I gave the car fresh: bushings, tie rods, ball joints, shocks, and wheel bearings. But when i took it for its first drive last night I heard an awefull grinding (metal on metal sound) coming from the left rear. This sound would be louder and more common when turning to the right. First I thought that the brakes were rubing but they were cool after driving for 10-15 minutes. Then I looked under the car an saw that the drum was rubbing the backing plate. This was easily fixed but I have another problem. Why turning left affect this noise? It seems that the hub should have no give in it. What is the deal here. I don't want to fix the …

I have been having a problem with a noise that is getting worse. It started after I rose the passenger side to replace the fuel pump. When I barley touch the gas pedal while going down the road I get a grinding/whiny noise coming from the back of the car. When I put the car into neutral and coast to a stop, I get a ticking/thump sound. (Almost sounds like the half shaft is loose and hitting something every time it spins) I know it’s not loose I did look at that. My instincts tell me it’s the differential making this noise. Most of the sound I hear sounds like its coming from the middle rear to the right rear. Now this morning I was stopped at a light and tried to go f…

Two issues with my 72 L24 240Z folks: 1. Just today while driving my Z, I noticed that the turn signals wouldn't come on until I released the brake. And when I started it today, there was this terrible warning buzzer eminating from the center of my dash. Is this a sign that my alternator is going out? My amp gauge has been dancing a bit. 2. The last few times I went for a drive of any length, when the car went to idle it would slowly just die like I ran out of gas. Checked the lines, and I have a new fuel filter. Fuel pump? What gets me though is that it runs fine for about 15-20 minutes then it starts this crap. Any advice would be appreciated. :stupid:

A lot of stuff has been gpoing on, and unfortunately the Z had to take a back seat Ive been gone from here for a bout a year and in that time ive had a baby, bought a home, got a better job, etc... now its come time again to mess with the rust infested Z I am trying to get it out of the climate controlled storage its been in for about a year but the back braked seem to have got stuck once again and I cannot remember what ?i did last time to loosen them. If anyone has a better, more technical idea as to how to get these back brakes unstuck please do post it here. Thanks! -este

Well now i have the car running right... its a absolute swine in the mornings, or if its been sitting whilst at work etc. It cranks/fires etc fine it just cant stay idling, even at full choke! I have to pump the throttle a little to keep it alive and eventually it will stay idling, just, at full choke. then when you goto take off it will die... almost stall but by pumping the thottle it will kick back up. When warm its fine. gradually gets better as it warms up Could it all be due to cold start vac lines removed. there were never any coolant lines to inlet manifold. If so why do all the guys using aftermarket filters not have this problem? What is it? The car: 6/75 260Z 2…

I want everybodys opinion on something I've been deciding for a week after I got my 73 240Z. I'm really interested because I'm calling this my last project so I'm just curious to know what good to start my project off. I'm barley turn 20 but I've kinda made up my mind that this well be my last since I really want a house in a few years. Still debating L28ET or RB26DETT also when the time comes. I might regret if I go with the L28ET thats why. But the motorswap is not even going to take place because I'm going the suspension route first I think. I wasn't as happy when I went with power on my 510 to when I went suspension on my 240SX first. A car that can go fast in corner …

about 4 months ago my 75 280 started to die occasionally. the first time it was on the freeway and it just suddenly died. as i coasted over to the right i put it in nuetral and it started right up. this continued on occasionally on or off the freeway. it always started right up. sometimes on the freeway if left in gear it would it would start on its own it seemed like it was out of gas but would happen immediatly with no sputering. it dies all of the time now . i have run a hot wire from the bat to the coil. but didn't help. i tried a different trans unit. not hearing the fuel pump operate every time when turned to on i unhooked the line before the filter and nothing came…

Well I just got my 1978 280Z automatic yesterday and I decided that I would change the Dist cap and rotor. The car was idling ok but a little rough. I drove it 150 miles on highway to bring it to its new home and it ran fine. Anyways, I changed the dist cap and rotor and tried to be careful to put the correct plug wire on the correct dist connector. I did not take pic of it first.....big mistake because I am not sure if I did get the plugs wires on the right connection on the dist after all. I have checked the wires for correct sequence of firing order and they are correct. The question is on orientation. Can someone take a pic of their dist and send it to me at widget777…

I am hoping someone can point me in the right direction on tuning and rebuilding the carbs on my L-28. I'm trying to find a link or website with detailed instructions on rebuilding the triples. Also does anyone know a good source to buy rebuild kits for these carbs.
