Hello, i am a new member looking forward to getting a datsun (either 240z or 280Z, I guess 280z is newer and a little bigger then then 240z, but i guess there is no real difference (is anyone of the two "better" then the other?) between the two) I've searched alot but couldnt find an answer to my following question. What should you look for when buying a datsun? I want something to be daily driven. I am willing to fix it up, but looking for not as much work to start with... please post your tips on buying a 240z/280z thanks!

Chasing down heater probs. Door mode acuator holds vacuum when using a pump( but very hard to push opening it by hand)and all new lines, newer water valve, thermostat. manifold vac pressure is good but when running the mode acuator does not operate and only cold air at panel vent of course. Could it be the solonoids not opening or just a bad acuator ? The solonoid closer to the firewall has continuity . The other shows 12v with the key on but no continuity with key off. I don't know what else to check . 1977 coup. Thanks

I need to know how far the brake pedal should be traveling. I've been getting ready to take the Z out into the spring-time weather during the past week or so, and so I took an opportunity, as I'm sure we all have done at one point or another, to sit in the driver's seat and just visualize... Anyway, for one reason or another I ended up depressing both the clutch and brake pedals. The clutch will go to the floor... but the brake pedal seems oddly stiff. It seems like I can only push it down a few inches, and I can't tell if this is normal or not. I remember the Z having very "tight" brakes in comparison to both of my parents' cars (especially my mother's Honda, which feels…

Does anyone know what the part # is for a 78 thermo time switch. I dropped my thermostat housing and the connection broke:disappoin . I was testing it before it broke and I wasnt getting good readings anyways and on top of that the bolts broke of in the bottom thermostat housing part, if its not one thing its another:sick: . The #'s on mine are A23-601000 and it says 19.5 degrees C and 9 sec. It also has 9315 and JECS on it. I just want to know if this is the right thermotime switch. Thanks

This is a "Help Me" cause I can't drive the car and my truck is on it's last leg. Need right hand tail light 3 wire socket for brake and brake light, it's a 78 but I think any Z will work(someone know off the top of their head?) "My" parts car at the junk yard has been crushed. Anyone have a parts car laying around that can send this to me? I was going to find the problem with the light and the socket acted like it had a small bomb in it when I twisted the bulb out. PM if you will, will PayPal you for socket and Express Mail. Thanks in advance.

My early 260 is giving me fits. The problem is a wierd one to nail down. The car starts right up then in 5 to 10 seconds it dies? Ok sounds like fuel delivery Nope guess again! The bowls on my 72 carbs are full. Both fuel pumps are working 5 pounds of pressure at carbs. Brand new filters, lines , Z therapy carbs Ive tested the ignition circuit at every point i can find per the fsm and 3 other books on this car.Seems ok.It does have the early 74 ign system. Maybe i should upgrade to the 79 80 ign system.Lots of parts on the old one .

Is there a big difference between 1980 flat top pistons and 81', I looked up piston rings for both years and there is a difference between the rings. The 80' one uses the same rings as a 78, but the 81' uses the same rings as an 82'. The reason I ask is because I am buying some flat tops off of someone on this site but am not sure if they are 80' or 81' flattops. I was hoping to use the same rings from the rebuild I have already done but am not sure if I can. Thanks

My 77 now only blows out of the center vents. I took the dash apart replaced all vacuum lines and checked cables. How do I continue to trouble shoot what is probably a vacuum / solinoid /diaphragm (bottom of blower motor) problem?

I just replaced my auxillary air regulator to solve my problem of high idle when coasting but now I have a new problem. The car now emits black smoke and coughs and sputters while trying to drive (just around the lot). This problem didn't exist before we replaced the air regulator. What is causing this new problem? I just put new plugs in today and it's still running rich.
