I am in the process of taking the pulley off to see if the compressor is gone or not.. Is there a special tool to get the square nut off under the cover?? I'm afriad if I use any kind of clamp i'll strip the metal due to all the 26 years of corrosion.. What A/C compressors can get swapped into a 280zx 1980?? I've looked around but can't find a 1980 model.

I have been restoring this 1982 Datsun 280zx turbo for several months.... new cap and rotor, plugs and plug wires, oil change, fuel filter, fuel pump, and cleaned out gas tank. breaks are good too we just put in a new master cylinder. new alternator as well the car starts up just fine. You can sit in it after u start it up and rev the engine as you please, everything sounds good. its an automatic.. it goes into drive and reverse just fine... trannys all good and wut not. after u put it into drive and accelerate, the car starts to take off but give it a little more gas and u hear a belt squeeling up front. the car then loses power and dies on you. it starts right back up,…

Well I was trying to find my old post about this, and trying to find a new head, but I couldnt find it so I am starting a new thread. OK, today I found this place, very small place that took me a few times passing it to find it, that repairs cracked heads and is a machine shop. Well I took my head in to have it surfaced on both sides and explain to the guy there what had happened when I got the head from ebay, he told me you know what I may have a head that is the same type that is professionaly rebuilt. Well it turned out it was a rebuilt P79 head and looked like it just came from the factory it was perfect. He tells me I will sell you this one for 125.00! After thin…

My front passenger side headlight is very dim on my 73 240z. I am sure it is a ground problem. Before i go tearing into anything I want to know where this light grounds. Does it ground on the actual mount or does it have a ground running to it, does the switch ground it? By the way, the other light works fine. Let me hear what you think.

We just got everything into my 78 and when we started it in the air the tires were spinning. But when we put in on the ground we cannot get into any gear while running the engine. The problem is that the clutch isnt disengaging all the way. But our problem is that we dont know what it is. Its brand new clutch line, slave, and master cylinder but the tranny is from an 82 and the car is a 78. Also the slave is from an 82 but the master is off of a 78. could that be the isssue any help would be great need it asap

Whats your guys thoughts on installing cam tower shims. My head has been shaved down too much and has changed the timing a bit. I measured my old head and it is 4 2/8" in. from bottom to top and the new one is 4 6/16", it is like 2 16ths off and still needs both sides of it shaved again, the cam tower side needs to be shaved because the middle tower is a little tiny bit higher than the others. I found one place that has them for 13.99 for a set of five that are .015 thick so I will need like four sets, but I was wondering if anyone knew where to get them for cheaper? Thanks

Hi all. The z bug has hit me so I dove in. After alot of looking at rust buckets I bought a 77 280 with documented 70k miles for 800 bucks. Parked since 1985 in the guys garage and its rust free. No cracks on the dash but some dings and small dents in the body. He changed all the fluids before storage. My question is besides the cleaning out the old fuel is there any other steps I should take before trying to get it going? Can I siphon the fuel from the tank or do you recomend dropping it? I was going to remove the plugs and oil up the cylinders and crank the starter for some oil pressure but wanted to check with the guys in the know. Thanks

We are wrapping up the 5 spd swap to my 78. After my friend installed the pedals we saw that the pedal is really close to the firewall. Is this normal b/c it seems that the master cylinder is short even being adjusted out all the way

OK everybody, Some of you may have seen the recent thread about "two Z's in the desert going cheap." Well I bought one of them for $250 and from the photos it looked like a steal. But I just found out that the car may be worse off than the auction and photos led me to believe. My question is, before I make the 2300 mile round trip trek do you guys think a $250.00 supposedly fairly straight and for the most part not rotted out 1972 240Z worth it? As far as I know it has a clear title and is fairly complete, someone stole some stuff out of the dash and threw a rock through the windshield. And I guess there is some damage to the front valance and grill. Interior is shot but …

I am in the process of having my interior redone. After taking off the rear right interior panel, I found that the fuel vapor tank didn't fit correctly . After further scrutiny, I found the tank is a replacement tank from a newer model Z. So, I need to find a good used plastic fuel vapor tank for my early model 70 Z. I have no junkyards to check here in Phoenix with Zs, so am trying to see if anyone has one lying around. Anyone have one out there they would sell?
