Is there a difference between a 1970 and 1971 speedometer cable. I purchased a spedometer cable for a 240z but noticed a difference on one end. see photos. Mine is the one on the inside taken from a 1970. has anyone had any luck with this.

Sorry to ask this but i searched and searched and didn't find anything and I can't just go out and measure it off my car since mine is in the body shop. Anyway I few questions I am seeing if I can fit a twin turbo sbc in my z with the stock hood and in between the wheel wells and I need to know the measurements of the engine bay area. The width of the set up is 35" Max and that is toward the front and it is at max 22.5" high from center of crankshaft line and 29" deep with the tallest pullies. In know it all depends on how i position my engine in it but, if anyone has any measurements of any kind this would help a ton!!!! I'm sure with a little tweaking and cutting it…

I recently purchased a '77 280Z that will become my son's car. It's a one owner with 95,800 miles. The car is in great shape for it's age with little work needing to be done to the outside. However, I need help/advice on an idling issue. When you crank the car it will idle at 800 RPM as per the manual. But when you drive the car and shift gears either up or down the engine stays at a high idle, roughly 2,000 RPM. This lasts for about 2 seconds and then it will idle down. As this is the first Z car that I've owned I'm trying to find out what is causing this or if it's normal. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Hello All, Well I have finally gotten my Z stripped to the point I would like it to be at. There isn't much on the inside or the outside (less the bottom) to be take off and I now have an idea of where my problem areas are. The first problem I want to address are the floor pans. I have attached some photos to show the extent of the damage. The driver side is rotted through with three pin hole size spots. The passenger side has rust in the same area but isn't all the way through. The entire area of my floor board seems to be covered in this tar crap and it is making it quite fun to try and find the rust and treat it. It's all over most of the area including the console …

My son and I are trying to install a stock AM/FM radio (from a '72) in our '71 240z. We took out an aftermarket Pioneer AM/FM tape deck and found all kinds of spliced wires and a custom harness for the Pioneer. Does anyone know how the stock radio should be wired or have a radio harness diagram?

hi people, I alloready discussed this matter before and I'm about to go through the annual registery renewal of my 280Z, I'm afraid of my annoying muffler that I have, the car might not pass the technical test, many people from this forum recommended the "turbo muffler" to be used without the middle muffler "resonator" in my case, I have a long Datsun manifold I guess some Z cars came with it (not sure) and a 2.5" pipe goes from the manifold to the rear muffler, the one I have is a through muffler which has a cylindrical shape with a 2.5" pipe in it (with drilled holes) and seems to be compressed with fiber glass.. anyway, if I go for turbo muffler, what is the flow of …

Is there something I'm overlooking? I did a bunch of work on the differential mount and moustache bar, usual amount of manhandling. Also along the way fixed the backup lights switch in the tranny. Next thing I know, the speedometer stopped working.:stupid: The cable seems to be stuck in the tranny just fine. I took it out and reinserted it twice. You can't even thread it on unless the cable is fitted properly into the female... I did also replace some bulbs at the speedometer itself, but I think this problem happened before that. Also it seems unlikely you could dislodge the speedo cable from the speedo that easily. It sure seems to be attached. Any suggestions on what I…

I recently ( back in Sept) had the voltage regulator, battery and alternator replaced in my '71 240. Afterwards, the ammeter would fluctuate between midway and slightly-above-midway depending upon what I had "on" (lights, wipers, etc.). The needle generally stayed steady, though it would bounce slightly when I would rev the engine or flip things on and off. Nothing out of the ordinary. A couple of days ago as I was driving home from work I noticed that the ammeter's needle was now staying steadily below midway as I ran the wipers and lights. I turned both off and the needled balanced out. My assumption is that I am draining the battery when this happens and that it is no…
