I have a '74 260Z (pre-fuel injection 280s), and sometimes when the engine gets warm, it will start to idle fast when I come to a stop light. To remedy the problem (until I come to a stop again) I can pull on the choke and then turn it off, and for whatever reason, the car will return to a normal idle. I got work done on the car about 1000 miles ago, and they said that one of the accelerator pedal hinges was worn out/installed incorrectly, so they drilled a new hole and so now I would get the full extent of the acceleration range. So yeah, that worked for about a week, and now it feels like it did before. Have any of you guys had this problem before? And if so, might y…

'80 280ZX Seems to be flooding real bad. It runs fine when it runs and then just cuts off like its an electrical problem. When I try to restart it, its so flooded, it wont start. I removed the fuel pump relay to prevent it from running, then it will crank eventually. I checked the plugs, they're firing. What I did notice is that the fuel injectors are firing erratically. I can hear them firing when the car is not running and the key is on! I did a search on this site and found an article about the "AFM" not sending the right signal to the ECU. What is thhe AFM? I noticed one thing that might have something to do with the problem. The dropping resistor/sensor for the inj…

Also measured teh neg to pos term of bat: 12.87 this was with the car at idle after running it for about 3-5 minutes. but had to shut car off to opne hatch, than restarted the car. does this make a differeance? since this is a brand new alternator what is the issue? -Bad Ground? -Bad Positive connection? -is it possible i somehow polorized the alternator with all those wires floating around. I just got a 1970 240Z and could use some help mechanically getting it tuned up and checked out. I went to a couple of garages near my house and they told me that the 20 year old kids that work there have never seen a carburetor. Does anyone know of a good ZCar place in the Phoenix area? Thanks....

This morning I'm leaving my house to go to school. Everything is fine for about 5 minutes, then I started hearing this loud vibrating sound coming from the rear of my car (not in the very back, just in what sounds like the cargo space). I was driving at 55mph in 5th when it started and it happens as long as I am in gear. It goes away when i push in the clutch, as as I accelerate. Once I reach a steady speed, the noise grows louder. I swear I didn't do anything. I was driving very easily, and this just started happening. The only thing I can think of, is when I had traveled about 2 blocks from my house, i heard what sounded like something falling onto the passenger …

Hello all, Novice car guy here, especially w/ electronics. But, I am very excited about my new 1971 240z and am eager to learn. Based on info from previous owner, the battery is not being re-charged by alternator due to a bad wire from alt to battery. He said he tested alternator and it was fine. My battery is charged, headlights turn on etc. Want to make sure I am doing the alt test right (The Brit slang in my Haynes manual may be throwing me off). 1. Disconnect Alt leads (From E and A terminals???) 2 W/ voltmeter put + probe on A terminal and ground Neg (ground on frame or on E terminal???) and check for battery voltage, 12 volts. 3. turn on headlights 4. start …

well the arm that rubs on the cam to trigger the valve to go up and down randomly decided to pop off on my Z (just one of em) made a terrible screeching noise and absolutely killed all the power in my car, any reason why it did this? reccomendations as to what to do next? nothing seems broken or ever scratched. All input is welcome

In my factory service manual it says to put the engine at top dead center and align the holes on the oil pump and the hole on the gear rod. It says when it is right the bell on the distributor gear will be at 11:25 but mine is at 1:35 and the rotor points exactly at the #1 spark plug, should I leave it or am I doing something wrong. :paranoid: Thanks in advance
