I just got a 1970 240Z and could use some help mechanically getting it tuned up and checked out. I went to a couple of garages near my house and they told me that the 20 year old kids that work there have never seen a carburetor. Does anyone know of a good ZCar place in the Phoenix area? Thanks....

This morning I'm leaving my house to go to school. Everything is fine for about 5 minutes, then I started hearing this loud vibrating sound coming from the rear of my car (not in the very back, just in what sounds like the cargo space). I was driving at 55mph in 5th when it started and it happens as long as I am in gear. It goes away when i push in the clutch, as as I accelerate. Once I reach a steady speed, the noise grows louder. I swear I didn't do anything. I was driving very easily, and this just started happening. The only thing I can think of, is when I had traveled about 2 blocks from my house, i heard what sounded like something falling onto the passenger …

Hello all, Novice car guy here, especially w/ electronics. But, I am very excited about my new 1971 240z and am eager to learn. Based on info from previous owner, the battery is not being re-charged by alternator due to a bad wire from alt to battery. He said he tested alternator and it was fine. My battery is charged, headlights turn on etc. Want to make sure I am doing the alt test right (The Brit slang in my Haynes manual may be throwing me off). 1. Disconnect Alt leads (From E and A terminals???) 2 W/ voltmeter put + probe on A terminal and ground Neg (ground on frame or on E terminal???) and check for battery voltage, 12 volts. 3. turn on headlights 4. start …

well the arm that rubs on the cam to trigger the valve to go up and down randomly decided to pop off on my Z (just one of em) made a terrible screeching noise and absolutely killed all the power in my car, any reason why it did this? reccomendations as to what to do next? nothing seems broken or ever scratched. All input is welcome

In my factory service manual it says to put the engine at top dead center and align the holes on the oil pump and the hole on the gear rod. It says when it is right the bell on the distributor gear will be at 11:25 but mine is at 1:35 and the rotor points exactly at the #1 spark plug, should I leave it or am I doing something wrong. :paranoid: Thanks in advance

I'm used to American V8s and I'm still not very familliar with this engine, but here's what I have. Stock rebuilt 73 2.4L with 72 SU's and stock air cleaner (which I assume matches the carbs since the car came with the original carbs and another air cleaner). The problem; all of the sudden the car has difficulty starting. It sputters, backfires, gets up to speed then chokes and wants to die. It basically doesn't sound like it's getting enough fuel or air. Once it's warmed up it runs fine. However the idle seems a little rougher and slightly slower than I remember. All summer it just purred like a kitten. Where should I start? The flap on the air cleaner is in the op…

I'm going to a big junky parts sales next week, is there an alternative for an S30 280Z '77? I heared that a toyota 5M engine's flow meter fits with the same plug and gives better respond.. is that true?? should i buy one? coz a new one is costly over here or any better alternative, if anybody know the part number that would be great! thanx in deposit.. peace

I bought this shifter boot for my 280z. http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CP&Product_Code=32869-S30 But when it is in neutral it pull the boot up, is it suppose to be like that or no. I finally got my engine back together havent got to run it yet, I am a little scared to start it because I put 3000.00 into the engine and to have it not start would really upset me. I will post some pics of it tomorrow and pics of the shifter boot to see what I am talking about. Shane
