I'm used to American V8s and I'm still not very familliar with this engine, but here's what I have. Stock rebuilt 73 2.4L with 72 SU's and stock air cleaner (which I assume matches the carbs since the car came with the original carbs and another air cleaner). The problem; all of the sudden the car has difficulty starting. It sputters, backfires, gets up to speed then chokes and wants to die. It basically doesn't sound like it's getting enough fuel or air. Once it's warmed up it runs fine. However the idle seems a little rougher and slightly slower than I remember. All summer it just purred like a kitten. Where should I start? The flap on the air cleaner is in the op…

I'm going to a big junky parts sales next week, is there an alternative for an S30 280Z '77? I heared that a toyota 5M engine's flow meter fits with the same plug and gives better respond.. is that true?? should i buy one? coz a new one is costly over here or any better alternative, if anybody know the part number that would be great! thanx in deposit.. peace

I bought this shifter boot for my 280z. http://www.courtesyparts.com/Merchant2/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=CP&Product_Code=32869-S30 But when it is in neutral it pull the boot up, is it suppose to be like that or no. I finally got my engine back together havent got to run it yet, I am a little scared to start it because I put 3000.00 into the engine and to have it not start would really upset me. I will post some pics of it tomorrow and pics of the shifter boot to see what I am talking about. Shane

It is very cold natured( probably due to thirty-two year old su's)and i was running late. i hopped in my wifes car and went to work. she called me later to tell me my car ran into my neighbors house. Ouch. i think my ebrake gave out or maybe i forgot to set it, cant remember, too early. anyway it dented my rear quarter all the way to the finderwell. it still drives good and not out of allignment but it is pretty bad. how should i fix it? is it hard to replace the whole Quarter pannel?any advice is welcome. When I bought my 280zx, it had a problem, that it would cut off randomly while driving, the tach just shot to zero but you can still hear the engine running. So I thought it was the Ignition module, also note, that the plug that is on the side of the IM if it was unplugged it made no difference to the cars running, it just ran fine until it cut off and it took a while to start up. Today, I got my IM in the mail, I go install it and right away it has a lumpy Idle, I take it out make sure everything was connected properly and still lumpy, I install the old one it takes a while to start but it runs smoother. I put the new one back in and then it still idles lumpy but it star…

I finally got my car on the road, but my rotors are warped. I bought new rotors and pads, but I cannot get my old rotors seperated from the wheel hub assymbly. I have used PC Blaster and wacked it with a large hammer (using wood blocks) and I cannot get them seperated. I have removed the 4 bolts that hold the two together. Has anyone had this problem? What should I do? Do you think I can have them pressed apart? My local dealer said to use a bigger hammer. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks, Mark

Since there seems to be a lot of electric fuel pump questions being bandied about, I thought I'd add mine to the mix. I have three (count'em, three) electric fuel pumps from various ZX's that all run (i.e. motors run fine when hooked up to to a battery), but don't/won't pump gas. (I figured I'd test them BEFORE installing them, to save myself some grief). Figuring that there must be some crud builtup inside the pumps, or maybe cracked or worn out o-rings, I dissassembled one. The pump itself is an extemely simple design, consisting of a rotor with 5 cylindrical "pellets" and two 2 o-rings. The o-rings looked fine and there was no varnish or crud inside and the check va…
