I know almost everyone out there has 240's & 260's but I happen to like the 280zx's the best. Sure they are the biggest, heaviest, and slowest of the z's but I still like them the best. Every one knows how they squat through the gears, I would like to elimate this as much as possible. I am going to change the springs and shocks but I don't want to stiffen the car too much and I don't really want to lower it if I don't have to. By the way, I have an '83 280zx with 71k miles on it. On ebay I can buy a set of Tokico springs and gas shocks for around $350, much less than Motorsport or Victoria British. My main purpose is to stiffen up my ride (a little) but mainly to elim…

I got rear ended about 2 months ago and now after finally winning the battle with the insurance company I'm finally getting around to fixing my baby. So I ordered a new rear panel from motorsport. I tore out the old body panel and held the new one in place only to discover the new panel is complete crap. It has the stamping for the bumper mounts, the exhaust cutout, and the imprint in the middle , but it does not have nearly enough curve going down or any side to side! I can make it fit, but it will be a lot of work, and it won't look very nice. I can't believe I paid $250 for this pile of crap! So now I'm looking for a used rear panel from a junk Z. If anyone has …

[The 2.8 N/A engine in the car, not the turbo] Yesterday I noticed that my oil guage was reading low, like it does most of the time. When it went to 0 and then past at 60mph, I had to check it out. I noticed that oil was leaking from the front timing cover. The top bolt that holds the alternator adjustment rod to the block was loose. As I was tightening the bolt it would get a little tight and then keep spinning. The bolt was snapped and fell out in my hand. The remaining part of the bolt is approximetly 1/4" out of the block, not the cover. I might be able to (when I pull the radiator, fan and timing cover) get it with vise grips, but I don't want to chance snapping it …

Hey guys, as some of you may know, i was taking my car out of my garage a little while ago and it just shut off, i could almost swear i saw some kind of white some come out of the hood vent or the cowl, and i could smell what i thought where wires or plastic burning. I replaced the fuel pump relay today, and still nothing. The problem is, the fuel pump is getting no power at all, when i hotwire the pump the car will flash, then die again. Sorry for making another thread about it guys, but i really need the car going again, seeing it sit there is really getting to me. Thanks alot, any help is greatly appreciated. P.S the relays should click when i go into the on position r…

I've got over 4" clearance on back, and 1/2" clearance on front between the tires and fenderwells, and the tires are 205/50-15, so they are pretty short already. I put the long, more loosely wound ones on the back and the shorter, more tightly wound ones on front, which I read somewhere on here, but I think I reversed them. Any other ideas? The car sat at a normal rake with 280 tokico springs, before this, just not low.

I just bought my first "used" '71 240Z after previously owning new '77, '78 and '81 models in California. Too bad I didn't keep any of them! I'm looking for a good mechanic located in Vancouver, WA. The car is 80% restored and I also would like suggestions for interior restoration shops. I just joined as a new member and am already impressed with the talent and content. I'd appreciate any recommendations.

Hey guys, just before dinner tried to get the clips off that hold the hand brake cable to the mounts under the trans tunnel. Man, mine won't move. They seem to be like the clips that hold the brake/clutch lines to their mounts. Should just slip off right? What am I missing? Never fails, if it is the last nut, screw, clip, etc, it will be the BI@#$. And I can't get any tools on it, tried all I 've got. Thanks in advance

I got a new timing chain for my 280z, but am having problems with getting it on. I have the silver links lined up with the timing marks but I want to make sure it is right. Also do I use gasket material on the head gasket or no. I have to take the cylinder head back off because I torqued it down before I put the timing cover on so now I have to get a new head gasket.

Hello, I am not getting spark to the plugs and I need a favor from someone with a 1981 280zx turbo. Can you please take a picture of the coil. I bought the car with a missing distributor and coil and someone hacked some of the wires where the coil is supposed to be. It would be great to be able to see what is supposed to be there. If you could take a close up of the connections around the coil area I would greatly appreciate it!!!!!! I have added a picture of my problem with the wiring. I have included numbers next to the wires I need identified. Thanks, RIck

I spent all day tring to get the car running right. Finally when I thought I got the mixture and timing correct I took the car out for a spin. She accelerates hard through third, then when I shift to fourth and hit the gas she seems to drop dead. Starts running real rough, makes a gurgling noise like it's choking and even if I floor it I can't get anymore speed and even start to lose speed. When I pull over the car drops RPMs like it's going to die, then eventually the idle comes back and the car runs like it did before. I'm thinking this is a fuel issue, but I'm not sure. So far this is what I've done: Electronic ignition w/ E12-80 timing set to 7 degrees. Rebuilt S…
