Question: on the ends of the spindle pins, there is originally a rubber washer on each end that fits between the metal washer and the bushing itself. I now have polyurethane all around. Without thinking about it, I bought 4 new rubber washers (still available from Nissan). However, I just tried to torque one of the spindle pin bolts down, and the washer just squirted out from under the metal washer (it didn't slide over, it actually bowled-up and completely out from under the metal washer so I could just lift it off). Upon reflection, the poly bushings essentially have their own pliant washer by the outside section of the poly bushing itself. So are these rubber w…

Hello Ok I am going to be putting my 2.8L motor and 5 speed soon and I will put in the R200 a little later when I get the remaining parts. I have a 71 240z. For right now which drive shaft should I use with the new transmission? The 240z or the 280zx drive shaft? I need to put the motor and tranny in now and move the car back to my house about a block and half away. So the car does not really need to be running now that I think about it. I still need to wire in a fuel pump in and need to order a header and exhaust system. Thanks for any help. Waylon

So a couple of months ago while changing my thermostat, I noticed that both the upper and lower portions of the housing had damage to them that made them unusable ( always like it when a new gasket and scraping all that old crud from a seal reveals a leak and thus a bigger job) but I digress. In removing the water temperature sending unit ( the only thing wired into my thermostat since the PO removed the other units which connect to the EGR System? anyway, the only thing I have is the one which gives me the temp at my dash. The 30+ year old wire, being old and brittle breaks off at the sensor, I patched in a new piece of wire, soldered it etc, after a couple of months, …

I just pulled a 280zx motor to put in my 240z. I already have the block mounted to an engine stand. The problem is I need to remove the hermonic balancer so I can replace the timing chain and sprokets. How do I stop the motor from turning to get the hermoic balancer bolt out? Also do the rear main seals go bad fairly often on L series engines, are they like 302 motors? Another question since I have the engine torn apart this far should I go ahead and replace the head gasket as well? The head was rebuilt maybe 50,000 miles ago maybe less, well not sure on how many miles since the rebuilt head. Thanks for any help.

The molded plastic ball socket on the throttle linkage near the carb is broken and cracked. Any repair suggestions out there, since the part is no longer available and the Z-s in junkyards are pretty well stripped? Can I encase the existing one in an epoxy to hold it together? Are there rod ends with bearing that people use? Has someone found another vehicle that uses a similar design concept All suggestions welcome? Thx

Hi Folks, I have a rather large problem with the brakes on my '72 240z. I'm mostly finished with a resto/rebuild of a Scarab Kit 240z. I decided to replace the entire brake system with all new or N.O.S. parts. I have bled the system completely to remove all air, and even resorted to having a local garage power bleed the system for me. It appears that I still have minimal rear brakes. I only have half a pedal, and this diminishes when the engine is running. This is a completely stock brake system. I really need help with the following questions: 1. Are 7/8" Tokico and 7/8" Nabco stock Master Cylinders interchangeable? 2. What type of adjustments, if any, need to be made t…

Hi i have a 1972 240z parts car, but the engine only has 50k miles on it, and the car im restoring (1976 280z) has 150K miles on it. The L28 engine didnt run to great when it was assembled, but the L24 was fine. If i were to put the L24 in the 280 what would be my losses and gains? Would i still be able to use the fuel injection system on the L24 or are SU's better? ( i dont mind adjusting and tunning them). And could i also swap the tranny too? Just wondering if everything is compatible.
