For some reason i think my 78 z is running rich. When im sitting there at idle i can smell raw fuel, and the idle misses and bobbles around. Then when i rev it up to about 2 grand and hold it there i can hear slight backfiring, and pops coming out of the exhaust. Then i let off completely and it pops and burbles back down to idle, only it drops to about 100 rpm and acts like its going to die. what do you think is the problem? Thanks guys

I got to borrow a company car to get home tonight while the Z spends the night in the parking lot waiting for the overnight delivery of a new starter from MSA tomorrow morning... Well during the commute I got to thinking that maybe I've got an added problem I failed to consider... Thought I'd run it by you guys and gals for someone's two cents... On Friday afternoon after I filled up with gas before driving home it did once fail to start (only heard the solenoid "click"). After I checked over everything and tried again it started right up. I drove the car this morning & it worked fine. At lunch I got in turned the key, heard the fuel pump come on as usual and then wen…

I lost commpression in my #4 cylinder, and a big loss of power in my original 240z engine. I am thinking that I need to have new rings put in, so I am in need of a good, experienced mechanic in the Portland, Oregon area (Somewhere closer to Beaverton or Hillsboro would be preferred) to install these. Any help of suggestions or referrals would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, ~Richard '73 240Z HLS30 163405 "A real sports car chooses its owner because it has a soul. I'm installing a rear wheel bearing on my '73 240 and have it all back together. I made sure both the outer bearing is all the way down on the axle stub, and the inner bearing is all the way in against the lip inside the hub. When I apply 150 lb-ft of torque to the lock nut (the max my torque wrench can measure) the effort to turn the flange at the wheel bolt is so high I can barely move it with one hand. If I back the lock nut off so it's almost loose it moves with no significant resistance. I made sure to put the spacer/sleeve on between the bearings. The Haynes manual says to start with 180 lbft and go up from there. I'm not even close. Any suggestions?

Hi there! I just recently purchased my first Z, a 73 240z. I thought I knew what to look for when I bought it, but I overlooked 1 thing. About a week after a got it, I was degreasing the engine compartment when I realized this thing has an L-28 not a 24. The lady who sold it to me was the first owner and did tell me the original engine was long gone, but this was a correct engine for the year. Needless to say I was alittle upset. The question I have is how much better does the 28 perform compared to the 24? Also the car shakes hard when taking off or shifting gears unless i work the clutch just right. She said that the clutch needs to be matched to the flywheel or somethi…

I recently purchased a 240z that was sitting in a guys yard for 12 years. It is in pretty good shape but nothing was done to "store" it. I just got it off the trailer today and it was a pain to push. I jacked it up and found the brakes are all dragging. The back worst then the front but they are all dragging bad. Before this I realized the brake fluid was not fluid more like grease. It was sitting with the e-brake on so it could be siezed. but i think most of my problem is the brake fluid. Any ideas on how to get rid of it. Thanks for the help.

Hey all, My car is hesitating under low rpm acceleration(under 3000). All tune-up parts in good condition, valves, spark, fuel. What is happening is that the car hesitates and then goes normally when the rpms are higher. The really odd thing, is that it will do this all over town but after I come off the interstate after going a constant high speed the problem dissapears and the car runs great. I was thinking that maybe air was getting into the fuel line somewhere? Is that possible without fuel coming out? Maybe it's in the carbs? The float lines are plyable and the choke is in with the adjustments just where I want them. Just wondering if somebody has experienced a…

I need a new right rear mudguard to complete repairs on my original 240Z. Does anyone have one or know where to get one anywhere. I missed out on one that was sold two weeks ago by a Sydney Z parts supplier. I have a rear quarter cut but need the new rear mudguard (fender) to finish off the repairs.

I recently purchased a Silver 1978 280Z. I'm pleased to see that you can still purchase a lot of OEM parts for the cars. I've searched the Internet a lot but have been unable to find the color-matched body side molding that came with the car. Any suggestions? Thank you, Jim

Does anyone have a recommendation for a good mechanic in the Detroit-Ann Arb or area? Its a 73 240Z. I'd tinker with the car more to try to figure out why it isn't starting - but I leave the country for 3 months Tuesday, and I'm desperate to get the car running before I go. Thanks! Reethi
