I have had my 72 since October. It has never made any wierd noises, but now it clicks in the rear end area. It only clicks while driving and seems to be more speed dependant. Even when rolling to s stop, you can hear it click ever so slowly. I'm certain it is coming from the back end of the car, and pretty sure it's not the brakes. The ride hasn't changed either. Any ideas? I need to get the rear of the car in the air and try to spin the wheels and listen or something. It's driving me nuts! Thanks, Brian S.

Yesterday i took my friend allan out for alitle ride to listen to this noise my car is making, the question is about the noise...but i also have alittle story for you. Well anyway i'll start with the noise, it's a clinking noise that happens in 2nd gear around 3000 rpms and in 3rd gear around 3000 rpms it sounds like metal hitting metal, not hard but hard enough to make a noise i talked to one guy on zcar.com and he said he had a problem that sounds like mine and it was his exhaust liner and he had to take apart the exhaust manifold...anybody else ever had a problem like this??....oh and anyway back to the rest of the story i took him for a ride to foothill highschool abo…

Hi guys, its taken me almost four years to get my z to the stage where its drivable again....and now the only thing stopping me is the passenger side front brake! I've bled and bled and bled the brakes, I have almost no pressure in the brake pedal until I clamp off the flexible hose to that front passenger caliper and voila! Pressure!....Yep, so there's air in the line somewhere. Both front calipers are rebuilt replacements from my local Z dealer, when I was pulling my hair out today I noticed that on the drivers side, the bleed nipple was on the top of the caliper, but the passenger side nipple was on the bottom???? Now does this mean tha…

Hey-- I'm hoping someone can give me some advice. I'm looking for a '70, '71, or '72 240 in original condition. I've been checking the usual publications and web sites for about three months without finding anything decent that I can afford. Any thoughts? Thanks. Jack

Hey all, My car while drive it at highway speed started hesitating while the amp meter and tach started fluctuating (It did this a couple weeks ago on the highway but didn't do it again until today). While this was intermittent, it finally caused my car to stall. It cranked right back up, ran fine, and then did it again a minute later. Being close to my house, I pulled in and let it sit while I checked connections. After about ten minutes it started right up and idled fine. I then turned on my lights and hazards and it died again. It did not want to fire immediately after that. I checked the battery and it wasn't drained at all(12.8). The alternator is recieving corre…

Under the recomendation of the local hot rod mechanic I took my 240 out and ran the you know what out of it. This was to clear some of the dirt I had sucked out of the tank and into the carb. I parked for a bit and when I came back the starter wouldn't even flinch. I popped the hood an saw my battery out of the tray and across some wires by the starter. I got lucky enough to get the starter working again but have 2 wires still unconnected. One from the firewall (which is a red wire) close to the battery and the other looks very similar to the wire that was off the starter (black with yellow stripe). I have 2 pics on my yahoo photo page http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/…

Well, I've been searching through the forums for about 2 hours now and I can't find the answer to my question. (See, I'm being a good little forum newb) I recently purchased a '76 280z and have been fixing it up. There are a couple of little problems that I can't seem to get to the bottom of. 1. The starter. It was running and starting fine and dandy. I hopped in it to drive home from work and just got a 'click' No spin. The voltage guage read fine, I assumed my starter had just bit the dust. The car push-started just fine, but the Oil Pressure guage shot up to 90+ I KNOW it wasn't doing that before. About halfway home the guage went back down to the normal level. I …

Question for the guru's, I searched the FSM, the EFI Troublshooting doc & this site. The closest answer I found was here: http://www.classiczcars.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12985&page=2&pp=15&highlight=thermal+transmitter Is the Thermal Transmitter basically a sending unit for the guages? If so, which guage? I "assume" the Water Temp Switch sends the temp guage signal. I'm learning the workings of the efi cold start system (for lack of better description), but these two are my missing links... Bambikiller, Sblakley01??? Thanks in advance... KCDC Keith

It has rained in the past few days, and I haven't driven my '72 because of a wiper motor issue. Today, I started it up and switched the blower fan on to get some air moving in the cabin, and it was spewing out water. I then noticed a huge puddle on my passenger side floor board. I was wondering where the intake is for that fan, because I think I finally figured out how water was getting in the cabin! Thanks, Brian
