Just noticed an leak from the head at the block while I ran up the Z in the dark just now. It's on the passenger side, right under a small bump on the head and block, where they join...wondering if this is serious. The mechanic that I took it to today said it's a sign of my head gasket going out, so I cleaned the area in order to make a leak obvious. There's a slight weep after a minute or two of running, no large drops, just a faint trickle. No oil in the water or water in the oil, though.

I am a new z owner and would like to put the 240z bumpers on my 280. Can't find anywhere on line that tells me how to do so. Also, I have been seeing a lot of pictures of stainless steel or chrome 240 bumpers that look aftermarket and look really good. If you know what they are and where to get them It would really make my day if you could tell me. Thank you for the help.

Please help me! This is the only car i got. We had a very bad ice storm last night and i had to park outside since my sister's car was in the garage. It started this morning, but now it will not even turn over. I have attempeted jumping it, roll starting and dropping the clutch, and checking connections. Is there anything that usually causes these cars not to start in cold weather? anything i can check? This car is EFI.

Hey guys, can anyone give some advice on air compressors? The old Craftsman 5hp 25 gal ain't cutting it. Looking at new compressor and wondered if I could get some real world experiences. I know bigger is better and I have narrowed it to two. Number one is 2 phase 80gal tank with 15 scfm. I know this one should blow the house down, but it just seems too big. The second choice is single stage 60 gal tank and 10.5 scfm(at 90 psi). My needs will be mainly da sander, sandblaster, grinders and want to get an hvlp spraygun. I am adding a bead cabinet(small one) shortly also. I can get the 2 stage, but if the single stage will do the job I can buy some more tools(it is …

ok hey everyone. my friend and i have been changing out the head gasket on his 1975 datsun 280z and we came to a problem yesterday. after it was all back together we started it up and it revved fine ran ok but the timing was off. so we pulled the oil pump and moved the gear to get correct timing and achieved that. then we set the valve lash to cold since he had the head redone and it needed to be reset. after that we attempted to start it again and it starts but cant rev past idle. any call for fuel at all kills the motor. could we have possibly messed up a few cylinders setting the valve lash and if thats the case would it cause that kind of problem or is somethin…

The engine fires (got new plugs) but dies at under 1 grand unless you give it constant gas. I'm possitive it's either the vacuum advance or the carbs- I want to lean towards the vacuum advance. Has anyone tuned or tweaked their vacuum advance, and if so, how do you do it? I know something's wrong but I need to know how to fix it! Dave

Well, this is now the second time I have posted this same question. Except this time I am using a different trans. Ok here it is: Car: 72 240z engine: N42 L28 tranny: 280Z 5 speed. I had trouble getting the clutch to engage for a while now, had to have the rod from the slave cylinder fully extended for the clutch to just barely engage. There are 3, maybe more sizes of throwout bearing collars, I have 3 and dont know which one to use to avoid this problem, i know one time putting in a 5 speed i used the longest one, and found it to be too long, and couldnt get the tranny onto the engine. Should I be using a different slave cylinder as well?? I am still using the one th…

I have my engine bay stripped out and am ready to paint it. Have sanded back and applied primer. However, I am not sure of the mixture of the final coat. I am spraying an acylic metallic 113 colour. I have 2 litres of this paint, 1 litre of thinners but do I need a hardener in the paint as well.? Also, should I apply any clear coats? I had a book on panel beating and painting but this has gone astray in my recent house move.
