I have spent the last few days trying to solve my engine problem with no luck so far. The motor has been running for a week with oil pressure that would get higher with engine RPM. I did a search and figured it was the pressure relief in the oil pump. I took the relief out of the oil pump and everything looked good. After reinstalling it, I had the same problem. I then installed a gauge in the oil sensor port and ran it for a while. It started to run at a nice 60 psi. And I thought I had fixed it but at the same time it started to run really rough. And of course really started smoking out the exhaust. I pulled the plugs and all six looked nasty. Black and oily. The fact t…

Hey everyone! This might be a dumb question, but I'm doing my first L28 build and I cannot figure out how to get this radiator fan on for the life of me. It seems to be the pulley assembly and then the fan clutch that goes onto the end of the camshaft. Should be simple, but I cant figure out the order in which they need to be installed. It apparently uses some double threaded screws and some nuts but I just cant seem to get it. SMH.

Hi guys, first time poster here. My car was running beautifully. Just yesterday, i removed the distributor to loan out to my brother. today, upon returning/reinstalling, i messed up and mounted the distributor 180 off. cranked a few times and noticed my mistake. flipped the distributor back and now the car refuse to start. Now I just noticed that the ballast resistor is extremely hot. I removed the wires at the ballast resistors to see if it made any different, nada. touched the wires together, nada. i put the wires back to the resistor and now i just noticed the tach is pegged at 8k. not sure if it was pegged before. Not sure what to do or where to go from here. I…

I sent this question to WoodWorkerB but thought I’d post here as well. Half Shaft Rebuild I rebuilt one half shaft following @wooodWorkerB’s guidance, but I’m having a problem. http://woodworkerb.com/home/datsun-240z-rebuild/half-shaft-rebuild/ I can assemble it but only with the bearing/spacer mix pushed all the way to the end of the sleeve yolk to the point where I can barely get the plug and snap ring in place. There is no movement of the sleeve and shaft once assembled. I had to really force the shaft into the yolk. Does anyone recall if yours could slide in and out (even just a bit) when assembled? any information is appreciated.

After sitting for about 20 yrs in a no-start condition, we have finally gotten our z running once again. In terms of the fuel injection system, the fuel pump(dead) and air flow meter(glue holding it together let go and let in lots of unmeasured air) have been replaced so far. After getting it started and letting it run well a few times, we decided to take it up and down our flat road, with less than a mile of driving. As the engine comes to operating temp, it loses power under load. In neutral/with the clutch in, it seems to healthily rev without stalling out. However, in gear, if more than about a quarter throttle is applied, the engine gives out, eventually coming to a …

I know this is a bit of a Hail Mary, but looking for L24 block 151510. My 73 was originally an Oregon car, so my guess is this is still somewhere on the west coast. I have posted this on FB as well. Any thoughts on the best way to track this needle in a haystack down? Thanks in advance for any help!

Does anyone have (or know where to buy) a rear axle flange for R180? Looks like the PO tore it up on install. Thinking about it, maybe I tore it up on removal, but don’t think so as I use a press and all other are good.

I am looking for small mufflers that I can possibly use. The new CA rules are no more than 95 decibels 3/4 of Power and read at 20 inches from the exaust. Contrary to what some people say about it not affecting classic/vintage or presmog cars <1975) this is not the case. The new law changes the penalty from a fix it ticket to a mandatory fine, and a mandatory visit to the state ref and a visit to the judge. The visit to the state ref puts your entire car under the microscope and even though it does not need to be smogged, it must have all factory polution equipment that came with the motor beign used. The visit to the judge will settle the case and the fine is 10…

I started the Z this morning and noticed it was a bit weak when firing it up but it ended up starting. I drove for about 20 minutes and pulled into my garage. After about 2 minutes, I tried to start the car but it won’t start. I was trying to figure out what the issue could be because I just had gotten back from a drive. Wouldn’t that have charged the battery? The battery is about 3 years old. It’s showing 12v on the battery gauge in the Z. The charge light is off on the “on” position.
