(78 280z) Man, i am totally stumped. I am cleaning, and rebuilding my engine and i am totally stuck here. I got off the oil pump, but for some reason the dist. does not wanna budge. I totally removed the two bolts that secure the "mount" to the front cover. I pull, and tug, but the distributor just stays there. It spins around in circles freely, but has no movement up or down. Is there something i have to remove to get it off? All of the pulley's are still on, except for the fan pulley. I am stuck like a fly on fly paper. Thanks for the help guys!

Ok, this is what I have. 72 240 with e88 head, and a stock cam. Head has been rebuilt with new seats and valves(no polish and port) I rebuilt the bottom end, new rings, bearings, cylinders honed (didn't need boreing). I put a 6-2 header with a 21/2" exaust (dynamax flowmaster). I still have the old point distributer and Im still using the origanial round top SU's, I've taken off all smoge "stuff". So, that is what I have. what can I do to get more Horsepower out of this L24 engine. I am thinking about putting a light weight flywheel on and chaning to an electronic distributor. I've also read about putting in "SM" carb needels (how much are thoes?) ... What kind o…

My '72 240Z with factory air has decided that I don't need the comforts of AC during the 5 months of summer here in Miami, FL. I discovered a leak at the evaporator after running a black light over the system. I have seen some products advertised that claim to stop leaks. Has anyone used these with any success? I don't mind trying as it has been difficult to find a replacement part. What are my alternatives in this case?

Just need a simple answer to "Which end of the rear seal goes into the rear housing of the 240/4speed tranny? The flat side or the side with the lips?" Thanks for the help. Tom

I am trying to remove the handbrake cable from my 240z. I have discovered this is more difficult than I thought. So far I have dropped the tailshaft to get better access, but was hoping someone would have some tips/tricks in getting the thing out. Reason for removal: It is broken. Thanks Scott

Hello All, The Z has been parked for the last few months, and I was going to bring it into the garage for some TLC this weekend, I went to grab the keys and they're not there. The car is unlocked in the driveway so I can get into it, but I need to know what I can to do to go about having new keys made. I saw a post on this forum, about getting a code number off of a door lock cylinder and taking it to a locksmith to get new keys made. Is this what I should do or is there another way? I'm in San Jose CA if anyone can recommend a locksmith that they have used with success. Thanks for any assistance you can provide. Greg Becker '72 240Z white/Red

I am having problems with my 1975 280z... Sometimes it will kill right after a start or sometimes it will kill after about 20 min. i attached a fuel pressure gauge right after the fuel filter. When i start the car it will raise to 30 psi and slow drop down till it kills, If i try and step on the gas it will not help it. Sometime by stepping on the gas the gause will jump to 40psi and then it will just slowly drop back down again until it kills... My question is, could it be just that simple of a problem that the fuel pump is bad?? Is there something else i should check? and on a side note... when the car does run, it will kill when i pull out the dipstick or unscrew the …

For those who don't like to read, cliff notes are on bottom right above my questions. I just recently bought a 75 280z and have been getting it to where it can run again (been sitting for 2 years). So far, I've fixed some wires that a damn pack rat ate through, cleaned up the thing's mess, put in new spark plugs and wires, new air filter (pack rat ate through that and made a nest in the air box which i cleaned up), i drained the fuel tank, put on a new fuel filter, and am getting ready to change the oil and oil filter. I cranked it over early on to make sure it wasn't locked up or anything and it cranked over beautifully. One thing I noticed though was that I never hear…

I have a 1977 280 that was given to me after being flooded by a huricane last year. Got it running but it will die soon afer it starts. So i decided to remove the air flow meter . It now stays running but idles a little ruff like it is running rich . When i plug the air flow meter in the idle smoothes out for a second and then the engine dies almost as if you turned the key off. Is there a procedure to test the air flow meter to see if it is bad . Thought i would just find a new one but what if that isnt the real problem . Can i test the one i have to see if it is bad . Can it be repaired or is it just a throw away and buy a new one type thing.Any help or advice would be …

I recently repainted my engine bay and I removed the metal clutch/brake lines that run along the firewall in the bay. Now I need to reshape and put back the proportioning valves and metal lines but don't know where they go and how they are shaped. I was wondering if anyone had a pic of an engine bay with no engine so that I can use as an example for mine. I would really appreciate it. Saro Fagerian

Hey guys, I took the ignition switch out of my z so my dad could make me a new key (he used to be a locksmith and still has all of his tools. Damn P.O. lost the ignition key  ) While looking at it I noticed two wires going into a small housing on the left side of the switch with bullet type connectors on them. One of them is kinda torn up (P.O. maybe?) and i was wondering what do these wires control? Thanks a bunch guys! Previous owners..... cant live with em, can't shoot em!
